  • Oh no! poor sweetie!

  • Can someone tell me why? brands like Hartz and Sergeant's are still being sold in stores

  • haha, nice twitch. muhammed ali is jealous

  • people should use food grade diatomaceous earth its safe and the best stuff around 2-4 days fleas are gone

  • I have a dog with fleas and my roommate sprayed the Hartz dog flea spray all over the house. Now I'm so damn worried =/

  • sooo sooo sad :(

  • i just had this happen to my cat after applying Hartz flea and tick drops. Shes seizuring and shaking and here eyes are uncontrolably blinking, I cant believe this is being sold after all the accounts of this happening to them. I hope this company burns in hell. If I new where they are located I would go there and force them to sollow this product so they could feel what my cat is going through. It is 1 am and the only thing i could do was bathe her with dish soap and wait till morning 2the vet

  • I am so sorry this happened to your cats :((( We just gave this to my dogs and it's not looking good for them. They're having spasms and everything. I just wanna tell you I'm sorry this happened. :(

  • This is sad, i also had these flea collars on my cats for a while and they didn't work, i then tried the "Zodiac Spot on 2" this didn't work either, i bought 2 at $15 each, worst product, its like putting a band aid on a bullet wound. The situation has now worsen and we're leaving for the vet in 20 minutes

  • Oh my God....I cannot believe this !! I'm from Europe, and I even don't know if this shit is for sale here. I have never heard of it ! It is heart breaking to watch your video.. Did your cats recover ? I truly hope so !! I've been giving my cats Stronghold. Again I feel very sorry for what happened to your cats......

  • @menro1 and about 10 hours ago my 2 cats had fleas and my dad put seargents tick medication on them. 3 hours afterwards they were foaming at the mouth and not moving. my small cat had 5 seizures and my big cat 2. they kep on shaking and crying. we couldnt stand to see them be in so much pain we had to shoot them. im still crying and its sad that i went to google and read so many complaints and they still sell it.

  • @09camtheman So sorry to hear that !!! If you think about it, Every flea medication is, in some way, toxic!! I am not so keen on using it on my cats !! But this summer I just had to, too much fleas...My vet recommended StrongHold, and although they say it's safe, I am always scared to put it on my cats...Usually when cats lick some of the flea medication, they start to foam at the mouth, but this is just for a very short time. Watching these " Hartz " videos, gives me the creeps..

  • Comment removed

  • i used it on my dog today.....i hope this doesn't happen to him

  • my 5 month old KITTEN died from this shit

  • @Dawnheart101 me too

  • I put flea powder on my cat today but not by Hartz. I used Purina because I'm not from America.. My cat didn't like the taste of. Do all cats that take this have immediacy side effects?

  • Poor kitties. Thanks for documenting this on video. Animal owners need to be aware of this stuff.

  • We've been trying to take action against these companies for years. I personally tried to start a class-action lawsuit. My German Shepherd had seizures the night that we put this stuff on them (Sargent's product), and when I took her to the vet er, they said they had just had a cat die just before we came in from the same stuff. Apparently it is happening ALL THE TIME. Sargents said they'd pay my vet bill IF I signed a gag order, and I said HELL NO.

  • my cat died sunday because i put hartz ultraguard flea killer on her friday night, she started acting drunk, her back end kept falling over, she would lay with her head hanging over downward, that is unusual for this cat,i had used this on her a couple months ago,got similar reaction but she snapped out of it,then noticed balding spots around neck like burn marks, friday night put hartz ultraguard on her, lost appetite overnight, just drank water, took to animal hospital sunday, died within minutes ,

  • WHERE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THIS COMPANY?!? im going to cut them in as many places as i can without killing them then let them swim in a pit if vinegar and salt for a few days, this is fucking horrible!!!!

  • I don't understand, I still see these products at WalMart! I used it on my cat, and luckily she didn't have any adverse affects, she just slept for, like, a whole day. I'm sorry for your kitties :(

  • My heart breaks for these animals. I've always used Advantage with no problem's. I don't know if Hartz and Advantage have the same pesticides. Sorry, I feel for you.

  • does this only effect cats?cuz i have given my dogs flea baths with hartz flea shampoo and they seem normal ...

  • PUT HARTZ ULTRA GUARD PLUS FLEA AND TICK SPRAY ON MY CAT BY THE NEXT DAY HE HAD SALIVA HANGING FROM HIS MOUTH YELLING LOUDLY WENT INTO A SEIZURE KICKED AND THRASHED ALL OVER THE FLOOR THEN A BLOOD SPOT CAME ON HIS MOUTH AND HE DIED ON HIS OWN SALIVA AND BLOOD , HE WAS A GOOD CAT AND DIDNT DESERVE TO DIE SUCH A HORRIBLE DEATH ( HE WAS MY BUDDY NOW HES GONE

  • @SuperLuckybuck

I am so, so, so sorry ="( I am holding back the tears for you right now. I was heart wrenching to read your comment. You, and especially your little kitty, did not deserve endure pain like that! I can't say how sorry I am!

  • I hope these poor darlings were ok. I too, put a similar product on my cat and watched him freak out immediately. Luckily he suffered no long term damage, but how the hell are these companies still in business??

  • also cats & dogs are a lot healthier on hormone free, drug free raw food.

  • Why do we have priest-like relationships with vets? We take their words as gospel & can't stand on our own with alternative information...

Or are we too lazy to find alternatives & research? Use DIATOMACEOUS earth (food grade) for people & pets..good preventative

  • Simple rubbing alcohol kills fleas. I never would have known it if my sister hadn't told me that HER vet told her! Don't expose your pets or your kids to toxic flea medicines. You can give pets a bath in diluted rubbing alcohol, or comb them for fleas & drop the fleas in a bowl of rubbing alcohol. You can also spray it on your carpets with a plastic spray bottle & it won't damage your carpets. Spread the word!!

  • I cannot even bear to watch this past the 1st 20 seconds......HORRIBLE...I hope this kitty made it..as I will not ever be able to bring myself to watch it...my heart just BLEEDS FOR RUSSMARION!!! PLEASE JOIN US AND VOTE FOR TINY TIMMY'S CAUSE TO HELP SPREAD THE WORD AGAINST OTC FLEA PRODUCTS!!! VERY VEY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS!!! :''''(

  • This is exactly what happened to my two cats TODAY thanks to this garbage. They're recovering now at the emergency vet with an IV Lipid treatment.

  • Just got back from dropping off my two cats at the emergency vet due to this poison. Too bad I didn't know about this BEFORE buying this crap. All natural flea treatments from now on.

  • my cat is dying right no;w

  • It looks like these cats have Persian in them. You cannot use most flea products on Persian cats. The better products have a warning on them. I wonder if Hartz does. I don't know because most of what Hartz doesn't work anyway. The flea's laugh at it!

  • Put some Bragg organic apple cider vinegar to keep fleas etc...away.You can get a free 16 ox bottle at iherb.com with ongoing coupon code TAW742 ( only valid for 1 person per household) or use the code to take $5 off any order plus the swiffer mop solution can make your pet sick because it has pg in it.Inbox me here on youtube and I'll tell you about using natural products. This is not a hoax, proctor & gamble don't want you to know the truth.

  • This makes me cry. Those nasty hartz people have no hearts! Does the EPA know about this??

  • So sad! This stuff needs to be removed from the shelves!

  • I feel so bad for these people, at the end when the lady was holding her cat I just about cried. If something like this happened to your pet, FIGHT for it. Don't just be like "aww, my cat died", FIGHT for it. If my cats died from this or even suffered a seizure like this, you can bet I'd do whatever it takes to make sure SOMETHING is done. And, if your cat/dog hasn't done anything like this (yet, I may add), then stop using Hartz. Also, don't support them by buying any of their products. >:l

  • This BREAKS MY HEART! my cat dylan died a few weeks ago thanks to Hartz. Im sooo sick with them. My poor little boy, 48 hours after he had the medication he died of poisoning. I think its absolutely RIDICULOUS that this SHIT is still in stores and killing animals!!! the spokesperson for hartz made a statement "They dont fear lawsuits" and that they will "fight and win". I think they're Bastards!

  • This is hard to watch. I can't believe this garbage poison is still on the shelves after this has been going on for YEARS. The people at Hartz have got to know this is happening by now but yet they still sell this stuff just so they can make money. Absolutely heartless. This makes me so angry.

  • @sammara60 No kidding... A friend of mine used it without prior research, thinking (of course) that it was safe- her cat had several seizures, got real sick. She called the company, even emailed them. They're aware of it, and they're claiming that only ONE PERCENT of the pets it is used on have an 'adverse reaction'. Complete bogus.

  • Well, I'm up all night with a sick cat after putting Hartz on it.

  • my cat just died last night. I put this on him and he stopped eating. i did wash it off but i guess it was too late. he could not walk straight. lied down for hours with his eyes open staring at nothing until he gave out his last breath. now i will have to live with knowing that I killed my best friend of 14 years.

  • DID YOU CALL THE VET??????

  • This is revolting and the heartless bastards that sell this poison need to be jailed and slowly have their skin burnt off by the same pesticides that damaged these and all pets who have had a reaction. I hope there is a special layer of hell designed just for Hartz, Bio Spot, Frontline, etc. The should get sprayed daily with this poison.

  • Bastards-- gosh how many people want to shine their guns up!

I was leary about putting one of these collars on, I found out about it and immediately took it off. Cat seems fine, now but I am watching him VERY CLOSELY.

I was crying when I saw this video...makes me really pissed..sorry about your pets folks, I feel for you!

  • So was the cat alright or what?

  • My cat died today and suffered the same way! How do we stop Hartz from doing this.. It is hard to love your cat so much and see it suffer like this.. My cat was 3 yrs old and died in less than 3 minutes.. This is awful..

  • my cat died today.. same problem... I gave her a bath but it was too late.. She had a seizure, her tongue turned blue and then she stopped breathing. The best thing is that she died within a few minutes... she didn't suffer long.. but those few minutes are a few minutes too long.. How can Hartz keep killing our pets this way and still keep selling the poison!!!! This is so wrong.. We love our pets.. we thought we were helping her.

  • i put hartz on my cat, had it on fr 10 min then heard what it does and bathed the s#it out of my cat i hope shes okay

  • This breaks my heart to watch, i am so sorry for your loss

  • My 15 year old cat died a horrible death about 8 hours ago, as a result of applying Hartz Flea dip (for cats & dogs, properly diluted). It took her only 3 hours to die. To those who negatively judge the person taking the video ---> The poison has already been absorbed. I bathed my cat with Dawn and lots of water. It did nothing -- neither could our vet. She suffered extreme seizures, incontinence & cried out in pain (when she was able). Unbelievable -- F*#^ Hartz! They need to PAY !!!!

  • this damn product almost killed my kitten last summer!!!

  • not really the best time for a youtube video, ya think? maybe a shower and the vet would have been a better idea.

  • איזה ברוך... הדוקקיס הזה.

  • I hope these fur babies are ok. Its scary because for some cats bathing them when they are showing symptoms, such as tremors, can lead to more serious symptoms like seizures. That's why in these cases the medical lines recommend immediate vet attention. If the animals need to be bathed make sure its a dawn or joy type dish soap and not a flea and tick shampoo please!!! If this was a cat product and not a dog then that has to be even more frustrating. We use revolution on my kitty and that works

  • What the hell?!? SHUT YOUR CAMERA OFF AND TAKE THEM TO THE VET!!!

  • This is bull sh!t! Why do they get away with this? We need to shut these companies down!!!! So f-ing mad about this!!!

  • omg poor kitties =(

  • For whoever made this video:

    1 Put down your camera

2 Call or go to the vet

  • My cat has the same thing...OMG did they live? what did the vet do?

  • this animal should have been brought to the vet right away!!!!! This is a reaction that is seen when people don't read directions and put a dog product on a cat which can cause seizures and a painful death

  • @kbyrne79

While the cats should have been taken to a vet, your comment regarding the incorrect use of the product is entirely wrong. Hartz makes flea and tick control for cats and it kills them everyday...

Thankfully I was able to save both of my cats' lives using Dawn

  • @janicek This Made Me Cry I Went 2 A Good Wil 2 Resel Ther Stuf I Find 3dif Types Of Drop By Harz Ther So I Wrote Them Down And Looked Then Up Its Insane How Many Sites I Seen With Complants Storys Deaths The Name Hartz Says It Al I Use Serjents But Ima Stop That 2 Went Bac 2 Store 2 Tell Them The Chick Said She Looked It Up Said Nothing Was Wroung With Them Dam Her Carin About Sails I Hope Ther Ok

  • @Fireeyes22001

You sir, are illiterate. Stay away from the thing with the keyboard that lights up and spend some more time working on your education.

  • Saddest thing I ever saw...

  • Yea the same thing happenned to my siamese, i couldnt approach him for like 4 hours, then after cleaning him hhe went back to normal.

How is that compagny even selling hthis stuff.

  • BENDITO ...

  • Just seeing the end makes me wonder why its even being sold. It kills fleas and pets. We Should sue

  • My cat experienced this today. Noticed it acting weird (as if it was on fire) within 1 hour of application and within another 30 minutes noticed that its motor functions started to degrade. Searched on the internet about hartz products causing injuries, and almost immediately stumbled upon numerous web sites and groups including this video. Took my poor fella right away to the emergency vet - tuns out just in time. Gonna follow extensive instructions from hartzvictims[dot]com to file complaints.

  • omg this happened to my cat, he went int to bad seizures thank god a vet was able to save him!.. They had to give him a shot of valium and valium pills for a few days!

  • if you can't wash your cat you can spray apple cider vinegar on your cat. google it for instructions.

  • do not try chemicals. wash your dog or cat with dawn dish soap (regular) and try organic apple cider vinegar. please google "apple cider vinegar for pets" and follow the instructions. is a natural remedy and has tons of benefits for your pet.

  • i like it

  • omg...i can't watch this without crying...are the cats fine now? i really hope they are recovered now...

  • omg! seeing this makes me wanna cry!! how goverment still permitsthis products being ou there in the market???

How the two kittens are now?? did they recover?

  • this just happened to my 2 cats today and they are at the vet...but my cats are like 10 times worse and screaming and struggling to breathe...did your cats make it?

  • You realize, don't you, that just because your pet to the vet it doesn't get rid of the reaction or its sometimes life altering consequences? You people who are saying they should stop filming and take them to the vet have no clue what it's like going through this. Kudos for filming this and opening a very personal moment so that others may know the dangers of this toxic OTC flea stuff!

  • STUPID HARTZ PEOPLE SHOULD GO TO H***

  • @wolfalord I created this petition, "Dangerous Pet Products! Stop the use of highly dangerous pesticides in pet products!!!" and wanted to see if you could help by adding your name.

Our goal is to reach 10,000 signatures (or more) and we need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here: change . org then search for "Dangerous Pet Products! Stop the use of highly dangerous pesticides in pet products!!!"

Dam YouTube would NOT let me put a direct link!

    Thanks!

    Troy

  • Why don't these people stop filming and take them to a vet if its that bad?

  • OMG! HEARTBREAKING! I just had the same experience with SENTRY PRO XFC for dogs. This last monday. My German Shepherd dog and my Lab/Beagle mix went into VIOLENT seizures. My mix dog almost fell down the stairs. I was terrified! Rushed both to the vet to be treated and have spent the last 4 days on the phone and computer. NON STOP! To try and get these products off the market. Some worked fine like Frontline. But I made a mistake this time with this product. Tried to save a buck. STUPID ME!

  • dear god i just started watching this video i paused it idk if i want to watch the rest the poor cat looks like its suffering i looked this up because last night my bro's girlfriends cat died because of their fucking poison and i feel terrible about it.she suffereed for days and finally died and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

  • i am in tears watching this, as this is how my cat waneta started out now she takes full blown seziures which are really bad, she had one last night at 1.30 am realy bad and one 4half hours before that. but the one last night she hurt her head bad and wet herself , just breaks my heart watching this i added my video above but thats only mild the way she was b4 full blown fits

  • I just used it on my cat.. and he is running into walls...and falling off the bed.... and meowing..Just acting different.... this is scary

  • I hate this! FUCK... why do they have this shit.. everytime I go to the store I feel like smashing the product. But the vets are saying to people it isnt toxic and no one will believe me... and apparently it was in the papers too...

  • yes go to facebook and in the search type in hartz poisons pets and there is another on fb people against flea product toxicity

  • I just used HARTZ flea shampoo at 3:00 this morning and my English Bulldog is VERY sick. I had NO IDEA! How would I. I am sick and mad as hell. What do we do about this? huh? putting something on the market that is toxic? She is laying on her sick very sick !!!!!! It had better not get worse

  • you need to bring your dog to the vet!!!! i've read stories of this stuff where the dogs or cats have had KIDNEY FAILURE and have had to be put on IV's

  • hmmm, she snapped out of it in 22 hours. ate and drank and played, I watched her close. I certainly would have taken her in. She is urinating fine and drinking fine. Thank you very much. I am telling everyone I know and sending emails about this ingredient. SICK companies.

  • Ah, thank goodness! That is so good to hear. I have just spent the past 4 hours emailing all of my local news stations, newspapers, as well as the companies themselves, posting on message boards, friends that have pets, etc. about the dangers of hartz and sergeant's. these products need to be taken out of stores.

  • I have been busy doing some of that as well. But you are so right, the word needs to get OUT! I will do more tomorrow. I went and fired my VET today and told him why. He said "get some Hartz or something" to me....yep !!! I will get ahold of my local news stations as well. Not sure the coverage has been here!! thanks , love to you! we love our animals

  • maybe I'll see you on a facebook page they have about hating Hartz, I'm on there !!!

  • i'm friends with oliver d. cat on facebook but idk about any other hartz facebook pages. link me please!

  • I've reported this reaction to the EPA

  • allowing them to be put on store shelves. It's a huge breach of trust when products with the all-clear end up doing harm to us and/or our pets. It's terrible, and the companies should behave responsibly and remove products that are proven harmful to those who use them. I know I will never again use a Hartz product on either my dog or cat. Thankfully, the times I have used their products my animals have not had ill effects. To the other commentators, please be mature and quit name calling!

  • Since when does age and work history define how much one is capable of loving one's animals? I have been a pet owner my entire life, even though for the first 17 years my parents took the main responsibility for cost of care. I have still always loved them and not wanted them to come to harm. When buying products for them, from food to medicine, American consumers can feel confident that the products are safe because the Food and Drug Admin is supposed to clear them for use before (cont'd)

  • There is no side. Everyone is a loser when you see animals that are affected this way by flea medication. The fact is any animal lover would find this very disturbing and would never actually blame the owner of his/her animals. This person is hurt, as they have lost a pet and all you guys can do is tlak about who is right and where you worked. Shame on you all!!!

  • that is horrible, do you realize how bad it will look on a resume that the maximum amount of time you have kept a job is six months? thats just enough time for an employer to realize you are a big mouth, and not as informed as you would claim to be. You should really keep short tenure like that quiet. If i saw a resume like that it would hit the shredder quite fast

  • actually i went to Petco and ended up spending $90 on advantage. you are right it is expensive, however since petsmart DOES NOT SELL IT i had no idea the price difference.

  • do you mean your animals or your moms animals? you are 21 years old and don't have a job, so i doubt you are independently wealthy and own your own home.

  • exactly, i looked her up to. lil 21 year old living with mommy and daddy doesnt understand how the real world works.

the main issue here is psychological. she has extreme remorse for working at Petsmart. Actually, as far as her myspace says, that is the last job she had, so she either stillworks at petsmart, or she is unemployed.

  • I just did a google search for you as well. Your attempt at seeming unique and interesting has failed. You are 21 and just started community college. Glad you are trying to get an education, but please don't prtend you already have one! Commerical Arts? Sounds like you have a promising future at Petco, or Walmart, maybe. Yes, I agree! Google is our friend! Now go dress up like a cat and look like the fool you are. And you may not shop at the grocery store, but Denny's sure has healthy products!

  • Really now?

I don't know any of you but judging by this conversation I'm actually going to side with xadika.

    A) Her secondary education and/or living conditions have nothing to do with what started this. What's the point of bringing it up? The internet truly does consist of sad lonely people such as yourselves.

  • B) She made a valid point by stating this happened because these people bought the cheapest and easiest product out there. Even the 40 dollars frontline costs is 10x better than Hartz. Whether or not a petsmart person recommended it to you, you should be smart enough to do the research yourself. If you have the time and resources to upload videos of your cats going through pain, then you should have the resources to open up google and use it.

  • Before anyone tries to flame me for posting this, I must say something about the people who complain about the price comparisons of the good flea medication and Hartz.

If you really cared about your pet you'd take the time and effort out of your day to get a flea comb and comb through the dogs fur. Its not hard, just time consuming.

Seriously though, making fun of someones real life over a youtube comment. You should seriously consider getting some better and more productive hobbies.

  • Here here to the flea comb! Works like a charm.

  • The point that seems to be missing is the the OTC products - Sergeant's, Hartz, Sentry, Farham (BioSpot) - are TRUSTED brands. They know that their products contain pyrethrins and permethrine, both toxic ingredients that cats cannot metabolize, regardless of how it is marketed. PLUS - the EPA banned the use of these for the home in the 90's due to dangers to pets and children. Do you look at every Campbell's soup to be sure it doesn't have toxins that you may or may not know about?

  • He is is certainly not over 18. I attached all sorts of stuff explaining how Advantage and Frontline are just as dangerous and there wasn't even the slightest reference to any of that in his vet tech and pet store claims. Argue with me some more too little girl/boy.

-It isn't that I am illiterate, it's that you lack the ability to produce a proper sentence at the fundamental level.- Trying to sound intelligent makes you appear even more ignorant. Now get to bed for school tomorrow.

  • ah ha! i knew you were a kid! i <3 the internet :-) i decided to follow your advice, and research things before

I see you were only at petsmart for 6 months, tisk tisk, i suppose you were late to work often? Up all night playing Second Life? lol.

Since you are so wise though, and know so much about animals, why are you going to school for Art instead of to be a vet?

Please, fight with me some more, so i can mock your attempt to be a SG haha

  • Don't worry with him viktim187. It is sad what happens to animals everyday because of Advantage and Frontline as well. Money has absolutely nothing to do with it and we both know that. It has to do with governmental organizations approving this stuff and allowing consumers to buy it. That is way too difficult for a kid to understand.

  • worked for years WITH vet techs and vets, yet not either?

you do realize pet stores are bad? right? that they get their animals from puppy mills, etc? or did you turn a blind eye to that, because youd rather run the register there than at McDonalds?

You know, college isnt really that hard, you should try to go and better yourself. Go take the test for GED, then you can go to a community college and try to be something.

  • You would not have lasted very long as an employee of Petsmart, if you said to customers "please, put back that Hartz, you need to go to the Petco around the corner. They sell Advantage, put that hartz back.

So all day long, you bit your tongue as people bought hartz. Now you have a guilty consience because you blame the home owner for 'being cheap', rather than you for being a poison pusher.

Scumbag. how many animals were hurt BY YOU, because over your precious minimum wage job?

  • my cat didn't have fleas. so i didnt need to go to the vet. From a prior occasion where i had RESCUED a cat and PAID FOR ITS VET BILLS i knew that Advantage was a good product.

Do my homework? Doing my homework would be to price shop, i dont expect a medicine to be dangerous, if it is readily available. I didnt need to price shop, so i didnt look up flea medicines.

I TRUSTED an employee of Petsmart, like yourself, who RECOMENDED I BUY HARTZ, otherwise i would have to go to the vet.

  • hmmm. illiterate, i guess? I went to the pet store, i asked for Advantage, the PROFESSIONAL working in the store said " we don't have advantage, you can only get it from a vet. ie. THEY DIDN"T STOCK IT, woo, i hope you are already out of highschool, i doubt you would be able to pass any standardized test required to graduate. Oh, and hartz was actually the most expensive one they had at petsmart, which was why i bought it, being that i am a label snob, i prefer expensive things.

  • Immediate effects of pesticide overdose include vomiting, diarrhea, trembling, seizures, and respiratory problems. If your dog or cat shows any of these symptoms after the application of a pesticide, immediately wash the product off and seek veterinary care.

Now what xadika? Does the price really matter? Stick to topics you understand. Unless of course, you like sounding ignorant.

  • Even some of the inert ingredients can be hazardous to your animal companions health. Other forms of flea control—powders, collars, and sprays—are no less dangerous to you or your companion animals. Labels may warn not to get these substances on your skin, to wash your hands after applying it, and to keep it away from children, yet these chemicals are absorbed by your animals skin.

  • Spot-On Pesticides such as Frontline, Zodiac, Defend, Bio Spot, Adams and Advantage trigger adverse reactions in dogs and cats, shorten life spans, cause terminal illness, and premature death. . The active ingredients in these solutions include chemicals such as imidacloprid, fipronil, permethrin, methoprene, and pyriproxyfen, all of which have caused serious health problems in animals in laboratories.

  • You may not be a piece of shit, but you are an idiot. Hartz should be held accountable no matter the price. Should families that buy 'generic' food, be poisoned. Use your brain and stop trying to make a point that can't be made. If something is sold for a specific use, then it should be regulated by someone other than the owner of the pet. You need to research intelligence and maybe you'll get a little!

  • you piece of shit, who says they bought the cheapest they could find? perhaps they went into the store and it was RECOMENDED TO THEM. Petsmart told me i could only get Advantage FROM MY VET, and to get the hartz

  • This is because you used a flea medication with Permethrin that had too high of a concentration for cats... this often times happens when you put too much of a dose for the size cat you have, or if you put dog flea medicine on a cat. Even if you have say, a 10 pound cat, and the dog flea medicine says for dogs 15 pounds and under, this reaction will occur. Permethrin is about a 2% concentration in cat flea medicine, but in dogs its about a 45-55% concentration. This can be fatal...

  • What you fail to say, itshoarbitch is that Permethrin is toxic to cats. They cannot metabolize it. So, guess what? Any amount can cause poor reaction or even death to cats either from the first dose or from several applications over the course of time. Even the EPA stated years ago that this ingredient should not be used in homes as it is, even in small doses, toxic to domestic animals, humans and children.

  • Yes you are right there have been many cases in which cats will have severe reactions to Permethrin in nearly all concentrations, however not all cats reacted this way, which is why they used it in several different medicines. Most feline flea products don't use Permethrin at all anymore. Permethrin isn't toxic to dogs in the 45 to 55% concentration but if other animals, like cats, come in contact then yes, they can and will have a reaction. I wasn't trying to offend, just offer information.

  • You were not offending, but your information is a little skewed. Dogs have the enzymes (as do humans) that break down Permethrin, including pyrethrins. If you go to the store and pick up almost any flea & tick product for cats (shampoo, spot on or spray) you will find these in there in the US. In most other countries, including the UK, they no longer allow it in cat products. In the case of Sergeant's, they have a huge long chemical chain listed as an ingredient on their spray, then (cont)

  • you have to dig even deeper, but the ingredients are all based in Permethrin, pyrethrins and their toxic-to-cats derivative. In tests, they showed cats can either have an immediate reaction or it can build up over time. Does it kill fleas? Sure... sort of. (they can also burrow further towards the skin with the spray) There are other better alternatives that might take a little more work, but that will also get rid of flea infestations and not put cats at risk.

  • Just from what products I have found and the animals I have seen in the clinic I work at, the cats that come in the most often with these type of reactions are ones that have had dog flea medicine put on them, with that high concentration. We recommend frontline to our clients simply because the fipronil has proven harmless, I have never seen a case of a cat reacting to this product badly. As for the other flea and tick shampoos out there, we dont use the dips or baths anymore, instead ....

  • we use only frontline and products similar to it. For large infestation we recommend products like adams home fogger plus because it contains the IGR to help really get rid of the fleas. Unfortunately due to consumers not completely reading labels we still see these types of reactions more often than I would like, although I cant recall anyone having a problem with a specifically labeled product for cats.

  • I had never heard of Permethrin being in any flea product for cats available in stores these days. I know that several products used to used permethrin with about a 2% concentration, however I dont think these products are available in most places like petsmart, etc... but I have not thoroughly read over products we don't recommend unless a client has an issue with it... good to know.. thanks!

  • Look on the label for Sergeant's spray. I posted a video response to this and it shows what that did to the cat I rescued. I couldn't believe it either, but there you go. Pyrethrin is also not safe, but perhaps not quite the same reaction as the Permethrin. Sorry it took me so long to respond to you, I lost the message somehow via email notification. My vet, who I have to take this poor kitten to every month (at least) sees this ALL THE TIME with Hartz, Sergeant's, BioSpot (Farnham), Sentry...

  • And the other cheap OTC products. Even the "all natural" flea control products these manufacturers tout has 3 out 4 ingredients cats can't metabolize. While it's true that if you treat your dog and you cat comes into contact you can have the same reaction, that does not diminish the fact that these products have OVER 44,000 complaints to the EPA - and that's on the rise in 2009. Those are only the ones MADE, not all that occur.

  • Did these cats survive? I Hope they did. Sergeants flea and did drops almost did my dog in and now its in a national article and I got interviewed. I am trying to get all the voices heard from all the pet owners who thought this was safe and it wasn't. I wish you and your pets the pest.

  • Why is this horrible product still on the market...would it be OK to administer this to the children or pets of the Hartz Company?

  • What I use now, and it is a VERY good prduct that is even safe for HUMANS!! is Natural Chemistry De Flea that stuff works and is an all natural based stuff!! Pass the word along!

  • Maybe the reason they are not rushing them to the vet or trying to do something is because they've done all they could. So comforting them is the last thing they can do. I put a Hartz flea collar on my cat just a little while ago. After reading up on flea collars and what have you, I ran and took it right off him! I love my cat more than anything, and it's so sad that all these people were only trying to better their animal's lives because they loved them. Not cut it short. So, so sad.

  • dumbass crackhead neighbors, u r NOT doing my cat any favors by poisoning him with this shit & feeding him kitty crack kibble! he has a home, he just likes to visit OK?!

  • How long had it been after exposure before the cat started showing neurotoxic symptoms? And why did they calmly sit there and cuddle their cat as it was progressively going into neurotoxic shock instead of taking the cat to a vet? Time and life were expiring right in front of them while they were just calmly sitting there. (I heard about Hartz products from my vet and avoided this with my cats. But also, I consult my vet on nearly everything before I use it or feed it to the cats.)

  • why is this lady just sitting there watching them die? Damn Get them in the tub and wash them with some dawn so it gets rid of the oil and rush their asses to the vet!!!!

  • @aricka88 they may already have done that. a previous video i watched was of a cat already at the vet after two baths. only after over night it was too late, as the poison was absorbed by the body. this is terribly heart wrenching!

  • Again, your fault, do your own research, those companies are probably not to be held responsible, because generally they specifically say they are for dogs. Dogs metabolize these products much better. Puppies are a different story. Obviously, you can't put the amount of chemicals on a young animal than you could on an adult, toxicity is always measured in mg of chemical to kg of body weight ratios.

  • It's your job to research if a chemical is safe for an animal. Pesticides are generally broken down by hepatic metabolism. Cats are notorious for having insufficiencies with hepatic metabolism. This is your fault. Science is your friend. Holistic vets are bullshit. Pennyroyal concentrate is highly toxic to both people and animals as well.

  • I've lost 2 puppies from Hartz replacement formula. My other puppy is fighting for his life.

  • My cat is at this very moment fighting for her life because of hartz flea treatment.

  • See a holistic vet

  • You want a natural product with peppermint or pennyroyal. Get it safe pet food and flea repllent without harsh chemicals form Halo

  • I used Advantage multi from my vet for my cat which i pay $100 for 6 months supply,1 dose every month and he doesnt like it when i put it on him but he's ok after a few minutes and he's free from fleas and tick and he's now a full time indoor cat.

I couldn't watched the whole video but i would probably rush in to my vet if i see my cat like that.I would not know what else to do.

  • That's terrible, and I had no idea about it. Is it an American product only? I've never heard about it where I live.

1:56 forward made me tear up, with the owner rocking her cat back and forth. How helpless must you feel in that situation... :/

  • So sad. I feel so badly for your cat. Poor baby:(

  • I used the spray about 3 weeks after the revolution ( so not both on the same day), revolution is supposed to work for a month.

I'm thinking if the cat lives it's going to have to suffer and be an indoor pet.

  • I'm almost crying, my cat is sick, she hasn't eaten for four days now, I'm force feeding her water and "cat milk", but she's only taking in about 15ml of the liquid cat food at a time.

I used Hartz ultra guard flea and tick spray on her, in addition to revolution (which didn't seem to work as she came in covered in ticks anyway).

I don't know what to do with her, I'm so scared she'll die. I've lost so many this year that the loss of a cat also is too much.

  • how old waz ur cat i was literally just about to put this on my kitten i'm so happy i saw the video and the comments about it thank u soo much sorry about ur kitten i coundnt watch the whole thing

  • let me guess-this is all made in that wonderful land-china ...home of' kill their babies w poisoned milk' products as well as poisoned dog food.

  • omfg I have the products!

    I'm throwing them out !

  • This is not fucking cool.

    im pissed.

We have to fight these god damn bastards

  • my dog is suffering from this product right now!! he is doing better but the med actually singed his neck. he had to be shaved and is on meds.

  • RIP to all yours cats that died. I feel so bad animals are treated like shit. v.v

  • Rest in peace, Ti-Lynx, you suffered too much because of this terrible product.

Cachou, the first cat in the video has recovered I hear. My cat, Nightingale, also died a horrible death <9 hours after applying this poison. His eyes panicked, mouth open, tongue out, he gasped for air. Then, rosy vomit and seizures. He was a healthy 6 year old sweetie pie. I will never forgive myself. Please spread the word, help prevent other senseless tragedies. Warn your friends! Talk to vet, they see a lot.

  • OMG were your cats OK after that? Did they survive?

  • I was in contact with the owners and the 1st cat, Cachou, is recovered but the youngest, Ti-Lynx, died. My cat, Nightingale, also died less than 9 hours after I applied the product. He was a healthy, 6 year old charmer. At first, his skin became irritated where I had applied it. I washed it off but it was too late. He started gasping for air, mouth opened, tongue out, eyes panicked, then had seizures and rosy vomiting. He died in my arms on the way to the vet. He was our baby. Spread the word.

  • this is making me tear up

why would someone make a product like this

  • Absolutely heartbreaking.....how the hell can Hartz get away with this sort of shit??

  • Last week a Hartz flea an tick product killed our cat Frankie. He died a horrible death. The Hartz company should be ashamed of themselves.
