I wonder – while watching this movie, anytime Bale reprises the "Bruce Wayne"-persona, did anyone else think: "Damnit! Patrick Bateman! WTF are you doing here?"
@MyVoicenotSilenced The Dark Knight was the second movie. The Dark Knight RISES is the upcoming third and last movie.
The dogs were manipulated by the bad guys. These were not house dogs; these were violent dogs. They obstructed a good guy from doing his job, and also took a large bite that went through his armor.
You're very particular about your movies, then.
May I recommend the Homeward Bound movies for you?
There are probably lots of examples where a woman who was previously selfish would improve significantly in character with a new baby. Sometimes it's just a matter of maturity.
People born in good circumstances can turn bad, and people born in bad circumstances can turn good.
@MyVoicenotSilenced I think I was pretty amazed by that one event of a mom. A few years ago, I think, there was a baby (pretty sure it was hers') that was stuck underneath a car. She lifted it up and her baby was safe. That's pretty close to being a superhero, although she was somewhat motivated to save her own baby too. I think a superhero is one who can do something like that without thoughts of benefitting from the situation.
@MyVoicenotSilenced Well, I'm not jealous of Christian Bale. He's a good actor and he deserved a role like Batman to show off his true acting skills. He's an intense actor but he really convinced me as Bruce Wayne.
But anyway, the men IN THIS MOVIE seem like they're jealous, for all the reasons above. I mean, even after the woman said "the cops are jealous", and all the cops in the movie were depicted as male.
Yeah, he's putting up an act, until he was interrupted by Rachel. It's interesting.
@MyVoicenotSilenced It's difficult to say what she "actually" stood for because she was just a throwaway character to represent the public's view on Batman.
Based on this one scene, it very well could be true that the men are "jealous" of Batman, because Batman is won in the hearts of women (as represented by that woman). The woman's husband, and the guy who is President of Wayne Enterprises seems to look "down" on Batman.
@MyVoicenotSilenced I think that's too broad. They are good people, yes, but they are NOT superheroes. Because that would make every single woman potentially a superhero, and I don't like to devaluate what a 'true' superhero is. A superhero is one of a kind, regardless of gender.
But I don't think she's putting on airs. Her husband (presumably) offers his take on the Batman, and with one response from the woman, he needs another man to 'rescue' him. That's a pretty weak male, if you ask me. Even with two men countering her points, she STILL holds her own by saying "but she put Varconi behind bars"... and "They're jealous". You can also tell that Bruce Wayne is very interested in what she's saying.
I think this scene is satisfying for mostly the males. A nice sports car, a rich and famous man, plenty of influence, capitalism, and power all wrapped into one.
Some women won't mind this scene, but I admit, there will be women who will feel like they are 'weaker' than the portrayed males. But to be fair, the woman puts up her own argument against the males at the table. The woman claims the cops are "jealous" and there's an interesting case.
@MyVoicenotSilenced Well, these women (in this scenario) are playthings, or representations of it. He's rich and famous, and he can "purchase" them. I want to say that you are a feminist based on what you've written before, including your latest post, but I don't want that to sound like I am offending you. I'm just sort of comparing what feminists would say about this scene (and they would argue that this season reinforces the belief of a male dominant society, and, to some extent, capitalism.
@MyVoicenotSilenced The point of this scene is that the girls are non-chalant and care-free, and Bruce Wayne is acting out everything he wasn't before - a playboy, and a rich snob. When Rachel comes into the scene and interrupts him, she's provides a contrast of "his old life" and his new life.
Obviously Rachel doesn't know what's going on at this point in time - she's preoccupied with something else.

@MyVoicenotSilenced That is true.
You will get caught up in a movie, especially the camera swinging and the sounds that you hear in a movie theater.

@MyVoicenotSilenced Three words: Suspension of belief.
Nobody's getting hurt - it's a movie and not a documentary.

@MyVoicenotSilenced I liked both movies. I watched both of them, almost back to back.
I liked the scene where Batman recants what Rachel told him on the rooftop. That was a man who knew his role, and learned from Rachel.

@MyVoicenotSilenced Not to be picky but... the last three sentences aren't really connected to each other in any sort of way. :p

@MyVoicenotSilenced *Meant to say "He put Varconi behind bars", not "she".
I suppose we have yet to find a lone female superhero.
