Actually both Britney and Jessica are from the southern regions of U.S. (Lousiana and Texas), that's why in this song Jessica is forcing her accent to sound extra southern, to match the concept of the song. I think she's also trying to sound sexy but I agree that this way to sing isn't good for her voice and doesn't fit her at all.

well here is the thing, she naturally has (er- had?) an amazing range.she can reach higher notes in her CHEST voice than Christina can, but as was stated, she doesn't give her voice enough breath support when she sustains a note, making it sound ''breathy''. also, she tends to over sing at very odd intervals. Gorgeous girl, could've been an amazing talent, with a great voice-sadly she succumbed to the crappy world of music we live in, where the Britney's and such rule,she now "fake" sings!

It's her technique...she gives her notes insufficient breath support, and the placement is all OUTSIDE of the vocal mask, which is why it sounds so strained and grating. But the fact that she still reaches such stratospheric high notes with a technique that makes them 10 x more difficult to hit is a testament to her natural range and talent. Imagine if she had Christina's technique? Christina has a much healthier technique than Jessica, but far less belting range. In falsetto, they're equal.

@CFNumeroUno What you said about Jess is correct but I think you meant head voice instead of falsetto, you know that falsetto is not the same that head voice. Falsetto is a way to sing, leaving a lot of air pass thru the vocal chords, while head voice has the same mechanism than chest voice but with the resonance in the head.
