if the filmmakers had attempted to 'spice up' the movie, like make it less predictable, it would probably veered away from the true story, which is what I came for. I didn't look for something to entertain me, I wanted the real thing.

I didn't know understand what the big issue about this movie was at first. I mean, it's a true story. A wealthy white family happened to adopt a black kid from the slums. I was irritated that a good deed like giving this kid a home would be turned into a racial dispute, but I see now. I just watched the trailer and I couldn't definitely see were the issue is. The filmmaker gives this air of "this black kid couldn't count the toes on his left foot were it not for the family that adopted him."
I'll just say this. I doubt any black individuals will like this movie. This is strictly a movie for the Caucasians,lol. Nothing wrong with that though. I'd rather you all enjoy feeling sorry for black people and "taking them under your wing" then watching a video thats hatred filled.

I can kind of see where people are coming from when they complain about these types of stories, and I'm far from PC.
If you've ever read the book "The White Man's Burden" you can sort of see the unintended racism in these types of stories, and understand why some people would be offended.

Coming from a foreigner's perspective I got to say that the ones that have always surprised me with their generosity and unselfish, hands on approach to helping others have been white people( specially the Christian ones) only a few hispanics and I can't think of any black ones lending a hand.

Sandra was definately! deserving for the oscar. I do however didn't like how they made Michael seem, like they said, an oaf, bcuz he probably wasn't.
He was suppose to be a lost soul, not a whole lot of education, and shelterless but not stupid.

i have to disagree.
This movie was well done and Sandra Bullock does deserve the hype she is getting because she was that good in this.
Another thing is that you don't have to be a football or sports fan to be entertained by someone who plays football in the movie. It's not like football fans saw the trailer and was like "i think i'll go watch that since me play football"
That's ridiculous. That's like saying you have to know about being a pilot to follow the plot to Top Gun.

For once, I want to see a beautiful well-rounded high class christian white family not be the butt of all jokes and see it as the most negative thing on the planet.
Especially when the christian woman/mother is willing to help and pull this low class poor kid out the streets of degradates and poverty. Be thankful to have individuals having enough respect for themselves to help others.

I agree on all your reviews except this one. This movie is predictable because its based on a true story so how can it not be? It was a good movie it had a lot of heart to it and it showed how the life in the ghetto really is.

I didn't know understand what the big issue about this movie was at first. I mean, it's a true story. A wealthy white family happened to adopt a black kid from the slums. I was irritated that a good deed like giving this kid a home would be turned into a racial dispute, but I see now. I just watched the trailer and I couldn't definitely see were the issue is. The filmmaker gives this air of "this black kid couldn't count the toes on his left foot were it not for the family that adopted him."

Something about this movie offends me, but I can't really find the words to describe it. It makes it seem like the kid is a Toby. It kinda gives me that "Here boy. come here" type feel to it. Like the kid is a giant black pet. Its hard to really put it into words. There is just something about this flick that pisses me off.

I can kind of see where people are coming from when they complain about these types of stories, and I'm far from PC.
If you've ever read the book "The White Man's Burden" you can sort of see the unintended racism in these types of stories, and understand why some people would be offended.
Me personally I just didn't think the movie was all that interesting or good, I didn't find it offensive though.

I usually hate movies like this that talks about some athlete struggling to overcome some sad sh*t in their life and is usually tied with slavery and stuff like that. but this movie was great and i loved it.This is how they should do more black movies.

Coming from a foreigner's perspective I got to say that the ones that have always surprised me with their generosity and unselfish, hands on approach to helping others have been white people( specially the Christian ones) only a few hispanics and I can't think of any black ones lending a hand.
