I love this performance. I'm absolutely flattened by Chicuelo's guitar work. I can't help but wonder why Miguel Poveda and Duquende both look like they're about to cry or soil themselves when they're singing though.
Is that just how flamenco is done in Spain? Vocalists looking very pained as they sing?
@rockiesmagicnumber it's not just a way of doing it is truth, what you see and hear is translation of feelings. bursts of real feelings shared with the world.
Brilliant. From the two ends of the silk road - the western and eastern fronts of the (once progressive) Muslim empire....alas no more. Now the Ummah is dominated by narrow minded xenophobic Wahabis.
Let us not forget that Flamenco originated from Andalusia, Spain. The place that produced the greatest of all Sufi philosopher i.e. Ibn Arabi. His theory of "Wahdatul Wajood" is the core of all Sufi songs in South Asia, especially Qawwalies. So this fusion is basically the reunion of two lost brothers. Wahdatul Wajood or the theory of one true existence (and the rest mere creations) tell us there can be only one true love i.e. that of God. The rest is just lust.
@farooqihassan Lets also not forget Flamenco came from the gyspy musican who migrated to southern Spain from Egypt from the south and Turkey from the north, meeting in one common place to learn and perform one common dance we now call Flamenco :)
@Malangsufi Hi - I've researched this before, and it is a common misconception that Flamenco has Arabian roots, like you suggest. Flamenco actually has roots in Kathak - a classical north Indian dance form, through gypsy migrations over the years. Thanks and please look this up if you don't believe me (:
@khalidz1000 Yes I do not disagree, this is why I said gypsy of Egypt. The root of all gypsy is Rajistan of India. I agree with you 100% and sorry for the vagueness.
However the gypsies who travelled to Egypt are responsible for the Flemningo, the gypsy of Turkey thought the turks the dance of 'Sama', the dance now performed by whirling dervish of Mulana Rumi follower.
Immense thanks dear Vipan Bhai for sending me this NOVEL Qawwali. Since, the sad demise of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in 1998, the genre of Qawwali was vanished in the sub-continent. But Allah is great. He produced this fine combination. I can never think of this wonderful combination of Flemanco and pakistani- Indian traditional art of music. No doubt, this is a RARE item, i watched FIRST time. Khalid Asghar, former Controller/ Station Director, Radio Pakistan, Lahore.(19 May 2011)
A lot of the song's beginning is essentially Islamic canon in Arabic, and some other parts (like 7:35) are vocal flourishes, essentially the "Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La" of South Asia.
Now if you'd be so kind as to send me the Spanish translation. =)
@yuptydoo After the one verse taken from the Quran in Arabic - 'malik ul mulk, la shariq a lahu' and 'wahdahu la ilaha illa hu', the rest is Urdu, not Arabic (Qawwalis are usually Urdu or Persian). Urdu has roots in Persian, which is why some Persian speakers may also understand some words. Thanks (:
Lol, I'm Pakistani, I recognized the Urdu as well. What I was saying as that a lot of the song's BEGINNING is Arabic (that being the verses you mentioned). I'm pretty sure that since the user asked for the translation to "the urdu part" that he or she also recognized the language for what it was.
@yuptydoo Thanks dude. I will check him out if you promise to look at more Duquende and Miguel Poveda videos (they're the two geniuses singing here). I imagine if a huge name like Jason Mraz likes these guys, it's worth checking out more of their stuff.
cant believe people are like they are complaining about how someone got to this song y would it bother anyone who told someone a bout this song. live your life and dont worry about others i feel like ive already wasted to much of my time reading negativity instead of listening i dont understand the words but i really enjoy the music and the feel i get from the song and im sure thats all the musicains care about not where i heard about the song fun times all
Hayran olmamak elde değil..Komplikasyon olağanüstü..Bikaç yıldır bu albümü mp3 olarak hep mp3 çalarımda dolaştırdım ama videosunu ilk defa burda buldum teşekkürler dostum..Eğer elinde De Querer a No Querer parçasınında konser kaydı varsa eklersen süper olur.
What a combination!Guitar playing instead of an oud or a sitar, tabla and claps. For milenia, never has it in humanity history, the music unites the West and East in olyone chain.
I'm a gay Iraqi woman who believes that we should share the best of what we know allowing others their beliefs. Would I be safe in singing with your group? Thanks, Jason!
JASON MRAZ, awsome song . was wondering how i would go about finding this song to download or to purchase? Im sure they dont sell it in my town in upstate new york, where weve seen u in concert 3 times. Thanks for all the great shows and great for the storyboard of my life

@sjbursich No matter how it's played, or who plays it, it's still a six string guitar, and i can take his guitar at any time and play Rumble on it, lol
@yannigk : they're talking about 'Allah' -our God in Islam- and complimenting him with such as 'he is the only god to worship' and 'he who has no partner to rule the world' ..then they sing Urdu -which I don't understand- after that they kept saying ' Allah ' with many other possible pronunciations...... + I don't understand Spanish
