haskell is wrong when he talks about the shortening of the bicep muscle. it is the inception of the muscle which defines the length. people who don't fully extend their bicep are just stupid, and don't tear the fibre nearly as well
I'm glad some people on here have the common sense to see Haskell is only using light weights for the photo shoot!.. This is so the photographer can get him to hold poses or get the lighting right etc... no one serously believes his training routine involves 40kg chest press do they?... agree about the feet on the bench though...naughty boy ...
@bazurix No drama bro, For hypertrophy it is best to stick to a training programme that incorporates all the major muscle groups, if you are new to weights and resistence training then you should stick to basic movements such as; Bench Press, Barbell Row, Shoulder Press, Back Squats and bodyweight exercises such as; Pull ups and Dips. The rep range should be between 8 - 12 and the sets depending on fatigue levels 2 - 4. Power is a more complex training area, im not qualified enough to discuss.
You guys are stupid, Haskell is on a Training Plan himself with his club which is rugby specific, exercises such as; Power Shrugs, Bench Press, Romanian Deadlifts, Weighted Chins, Cleans, Power Jerks, Nordic Curls, Bulgarian Split Squat, Front Squats, Back Squats, Prone Pull, Drop Jumps, Kiaser Squat, aswell as Beach weight exercises eg; Bicep Curls, Tricep Extensions, Dumbell Shoulder Press and Flyes, he is simply showing some training tips for people keen on lifting weights,
@Spuddfluff he is just fiiming a promotional video for FHM you mug and you clearly dont have a fucking clue what you are on about. have you ever been to a gym? 2x20kg plates plus a 20kg bar.....does that = 40kg?you are lucky @JoeGallina hasn't had his way with you yet
Feet should not be on the bench when he presses, less stabilisation, less weight used=less stimulus, harder to set up properley to use all upper body muscles, cant keep back tight etc.. again hes using bodybuilding methods...uggg
the bicep curls thing...your bicep cannot get longer or shorter. you cannot change the shape of the muscle. it either gets bigger or smaller. the 'shape' comes with how big or small it is along with how much definition you have i.e how low your bodyfat is.

True - ifthe muscle belly is short you will not develop as a large a muscle (potentially) as someone with a longer muscle belly.
He is just giving out some tips though mate. I don't know why so many are backlashing on here!
it is ashame that rugby players are so far behind in the strength and conditioning game....
the focus should be on maximal weights i.e 85%+ performing 1-5rep to build strength and get be nervous system efficiancy. 'bodybuilding' work has its palce but shouldent be the focus...as it is with haskel. He just does stuff in the 8-10 range! then goes on to say strength is more important than sise!
His squats didnt even hit parallel let alone full range of motion i could rant for hours about it
@JoeGallina no offence mate but I'm sure this is nothing like his program. My brother is in the academy of a guinness premiership club and i can tell you that this sort of workout is nothing like they do. It's all about power cleans, snatches, squats, Bench and so on. Their programs (all personalised) go through different phases such as size (8/10 range), strength (5), maximal strength (around 2/3 reps), power (3) etc with it continually evolving . My point is that you are misinformed :)
the rfu and players do "massage" the weight and height stats a fair bit. He's probably about 16 odd stone, maybe 17. either way it's irrelevant, i don't know when rugby became a bodybuilding excercise. Neil back anyday.
@conish64 "Disgusting human being?" A bit harsh wouldn't you say? And "a shit player"?! I know it doesn't mean much, but being a regular in the England squad surely begs to differ? He's probably one of the first names to go down on the team sheet, and is leagues ahead of all the other English 8's (namely fat boy Easter).
@BevelBob : Let's not forget the low bodyfat which means most of that nearly 18st pure muscle! Scary, since from what I gather, he's actually a rather unpleasant guy.
