I just watched this entire series thanks to you. Just the most amazing trip down memory lane for me. I can't thank you enough for that and taking the time and trouble to upload all this. Cheers mate. :)
Hey , thanks for posting this , i'm a football fan from argentina , and little of this was seen in my country . Thanks to this i could see outstanding players that player with passion and desire , not like these days when the just play for money and care nothing about fans or even the clubs they represent . Again , thanks for posting this series !!
I suspect that footage may be from 1968-69, as Gould in 1969-70 only played a few matches before going to Wolves, and he played as number 9 on his rare appearances. Also, that might be David Cort in the number nine shirt, it certainly isn't John Radford. That would suggest it is between NOVEMBER 1968 AND April 1969.
Anyone know for certain which match it was, when the Arsenal players went crazy at the referee? I thought it was the Leeds 1-0 in April 1971, but it couldn't have been because that's Bobby Gould coming off in the number 10 shirt, shouting "w----r!"
0842 if a team went at an offical these days theyd be offical hell to pay, seems football like other aspects of british life has lost the spirit and passion that one made it something special now it just another coercial product
It was interesting seeing that Leeds United programme at the beginning. They seemed to play the same team every week for years! In 1970-71 though, Mick Jones was usually at Centre Forward, and Eddie Gray would be on the Left Wing, but was often injured. Paul Madeley was the utility man who would play anywhere, in place of anyone who was off form or injured.
@Poopingbotham Not only was Madeley a top utility mad but he also didn't seem to mind sitting on the bench when everyone else was fit and in form. Useful player to have. A bit like David Webb at Chelsea, who also played in every position including a full game in goal once!
1:00 "The seventies, the time when British football ruled .." Yeah. Is that`why England missed two World cups in succession, while Scotland went just to see the first round?
Unfortunately I only had the first 20 minutes of that on tape (the tape ran out when I recorded it). Most of it was just stuff which had been on the main episodes anyway
Thanks so much for these bro, have seen 'em all! Brilliant series, with just one flaw, that being that very little time is spent on the smaller clubs of the era-Burnley,Bristol C,Carlisle U,Luton T,Boro etc hardly getting a look in,tho they all spent time in Div 1 in the 70s.Like Waterman,i ain't no nostalgia junkie-but give me 70s football any day over the predictable crap we have now! Thanks again
I agree with your comments. Another slight flaw in the series was that it was heavily dependent on matches which the BBC covered, omitting many classics shown only on ITV. Having said all that, it remains my favourite TV series ever!

It really is high time the BBC pulled its finger out and released this series on DVD. All there's ever been commercially is a two volume VHS which disappointingly had abridged versions of each episode.
But this will do for now (i.e. until it inevitably gets pulled).
I am guessing the reason they don't release it might be the modern licensing laws, which would force the BBC to pay an absolute fortune to retain all the contemporary music tracks which play almost constantly in the background on this series. It might simply be because they don't think it would sell however. Either way, I agree with you, I would love to see this given an official, unabridged, DVD release.
You're spot on Paul, The BBC have cut parts of Grange Hill episodes on DVD due to a music track in the episode and this is only one track and easy to cut out in the context that the scene perhaps wasn't essential to the episode. Not so easy here, massively frustrating,
Thanks. I've got all of these still on tape (of variable quality - the joys of VHS!) and will upload the lot over the next week or so. I have lost the last 20 minutes of the final episode (a 'look back at the whole decade'), but most of that episode was just stuff they'd already shown in the earlier shows anyway!
as a person american who is beginning to like soccer i respect the history of english soccer from the players coaches and teams andi thank u for posting this. because of this i really respect and like liverpool
