Jaffe is right here. Although I think game sites also have advertisers from these games on their sites and I think they get scared that if they trash a game, that company will pull their advertising. Journalism doesn't have the same integrity it used it. A game gets great reviews but if you really read the consensus of the people who are actually playing it that rarely gets put into the review.

One of the biggest examples I can think of that he is referring to would be the reviews for Halo 3. Halo 3 got plenty of perfect scores despite the fact that the campaign was very lackluster, and the friendly A.I. was absolutely horrendous.

@doddgod A lot of people, actually. And It's a huge part OF gaming as well, contrary to what you think.

Many people buy video games solely based on the reviews instead of maybe taking a second look at the game and even trying it by renting it first. Not only this, but there is also the chance that review sites and magazines can be getting paid by those game devs to throw out a good review.

Oh, and to some people, it's "not just a fricken game." For many people, it's the future of a major hobby.

I'm not a game develeoper, I don't know the first thing about creating a cohesive narrative. But i do know what makes a good game with a cohesive story.

This medium is still so young and has so much room to grow that we often underestimate how important the input of the fanbase is to make sure that developers don't fall into the hollywood pitfall, that is to say getting stuck in a rut where creating mindless dribble is almost the favourable option for lack of any incentive to do otherwise.

This is so true though. It's like when any hyped up games releases, I never ask myself if it's going to bomb or hit, I always just wonder if it's going to be an 8, 9 or 10. Dragon Age 2; obviously it's not going to innovate in any huge way. In fact it's probably going to be a complete retread of the first game's engine. Will it get an 8, 9 or 10? Gears Of War 3; Gears 2 was an utter flop. Most people I know shelved it immediately and went back to Gears 1. Will it be an 8, 9 or 10?

@TaylorTV5 destructoid by far is the most biased out there, ign is realy realy bad too, gamespot used tobe good but they are pretty bad now, gaminformer has also fucked up recently, X-play is just one gigantic downhill, GT is ok if you dont count their scores and just listen to the review but they still arent very good

to be honest the only reviewer in the world that has no bias is famitsu
