  • Well, this is actually a very underpowered, yet still lovely, bristol L4G - yes, a 4 cylinder, gardner unit. it struggles on the hills, and only does 45 mph, yet, she does have an overdrive gear in her gearbox...shes fine on flats though. She really that deafening to ride on! its not that your volume is high.

  • Had lots of rides on NWRCC L5Gs in the 1950s when a bus ride was a pleasant experience, not the ordeal it usually is today.

  • I owned a 1946 Bristol K6A open topper about 25 years ago. It had an AEC engine and crash gearbox with a very slow shift. Great bus to drive but not very fast with only 35 MPH max.

  • It's a 4LW, and an amazingly fast gear change. This guy doesn't miss a single gear!

    Devon had plenty of 5LW's fitted to WN and SN saloons, they managed the hills after a fashion, though it seems that the schedules had to be adjusted for them!

  • Hi. I worked for Eastern National as an engineer in the 6o's and often crossed the border to ECOC land. I use to drive ONO 49 for Terry Coughlin when he owned and restored her.(we worked together at ENOC's Prittlewell Workshop)

    As a Gardner and Bristol man of many years I never knew they fitted a 4 pot to an L type!!

    Was it a 4LW or 4LK as fitted to the SC that ECOC ran in abundance on the flat East Anglian Terrain? Be no good here in Devon tho,never get up the bloody hills :-) Cheers, Chris

  • This is a wonderfully atmospheric video. Turn the volume and bass up to full and you kind of get the feeling of what its like to ride on! Underpowered and noisy, but my favourite saloon in the ITM's nonetheless.
