Thanks for your great videos. You have mastered the walking bass line(s)- not easy in my experience. Do you have advice/tips for learning the walking bass and making them stand out?
I currently play a Roland VK-8 and hope to get a Nord C-2 one of these days.
i own a nord c1 and a Kb4 apmlifier(peavy) . it's qiuality is not really what i expected and i would like to buy either a leslie speaker or a amplifier. what do you suggest? i 've seen all your video and they are great. i like the bass line and i would like to see a 12 bar walking bass because i haven't understand how the bass like work. could you make a video please?
The Peavey you own has a 15" woofer, but unfortunately the Peavey is not a rotary speaker. I recommend a tubed Leslie or another tubed rotary speaker. You can also connect your C1 to any PA (to get the stereo effect of the built-in Leslie sim in your C1).
This song use 12 bar walking bass lines, and many of my jazz blues videos do, like 'Riff Stapler Blues'.
I will write you a message with more info about how walking bass lines work.
Rounder, your playing is rock solid. The piece is catchy and gets the foot tapping, but the bass seems too low in the mix--at times it seems to disappear. That walking bass is awesome; it deserves to have more presence like a stand-in for an upright double bass. I'm sure the youtube audio isn't doing it justice, but still, you might want to play with refining it a little in cubase rather than straight line out.
I was just hoping that the overall volume of the bass would be closer to the volume level of the treble. In mixing, one might pan the treble more to one speaker and pan the bass to the other; that way both can be heard and enjoyed.

Hi ScreechOwl
Thanks!
The bass too low in the mix? Disappear? That's new for me. Interesting!
I can't find that with my equipment. The lowest notes goes all the way down to 33Hz so good speakers are needed.
But I assume you have that, so I need some more info :-)
Can you, please, give a few examples in min and seconds so I can check it all out (e.g. 1min 49 sec).
And if you give the actual bass note, all the better (e.g. C in the lowest octave at 1 min 49 sec).

Hi ScreechOwl
Regarding the presence like a double bass.
Now and then people playing the Hammond organ substitutes the built-in sound.
Richard 'Groove' Holmes did that sometimes, but I'm mostly thinking about someone else here:
The wonderful world-class jazz organist Barbara Dennerlein have routed her Hammond bass lines through a sampled double bass. It sounds really great!
You can check her out here at YouTube playing 'Jimmy's Walk' - one of my favourites.
