You must not know how to use it.  3xOsc is incredibly versatile if you know what you're doing.

I do, it just can't produce the sounds I like and is hard to automate without getting messy.

You automate it the exact same as you do any other synth. If 3xOSC's automation is "messy" than ALL automation is messy because it's identical.

As for it not making the sounds you want, you obviously need to beef up your programming skills because it has more waveforms and programming options than 99% of the other subtractive synths you could be using.

If you just don't like it, that's fine, but don't blame it for your own shortcomings.
