  • Wow I'm so glad I did not go to the Berkley school of Music, LOL, this was not how to play a ride cybal, it was more of what is a ride cymbal, lame

  • hahaha, this ride sounds absolutely awful

  • how do you get a "ping" sound from a cymbal? some studio recordings of music have this really sharp sound as if hitting a cup of water, and the sound is really abrupt and doesn't have a drag.

  • the quarter note is the heartbeat of music or at least the unit measure of music notation.....it's that pulse we must establish/feel and nourish. there are many good notation/theory books. email me at 247drums at gmail dot com for tips on which ones to get. THANKS Sergio visit

  • Could I ask if you could explain what querter notes actually are ?

And if there are any other kinds of notes, a possible demonstration too ?

  • Great advice, thanks so much! (I'm a drum beginner) ------ Everybody feeling entitled to diss people offering information/help should make better videos themselves instead of all this negative blah blah. In most cases, they couldn't do so, lacking the necessary skills/knowledge. Face it - if you ain't any better (technically, musically - as a person???), simply shut up.

  • berklee is the correct spelling actually check out berklee.edu

  • your ride isnt supposed to have a long note its supposed to go "tink tink tink"

  • @mikem376

learn some more about percussion before you use words like "tink tink tink"

  • wow ur ride has a wide long sound

  • lol ur toms are tiny

  • @masterblaster406 does that really matter if the video's about the ride? :P

  • hey! you run 24/7drums! you guys have amazing deals on meinl and i reccomend everyone to do buisiness with them

    (screw GC)

  • the stick has it all moooooooohhhhahahh

  • what does it mean when ride is ping? (Istanbul Mehmet 20) please answer THX

  • this ride has a louder ping?

  • its not a thick cymbal its thinner

  • no shit

  • lol

  • ride's are expensive

  • depends on what kind hooker you get. LOL..........

  • Haha. Pretty clever.

  • a drum set in general is expensive xD

  • i like heavier rides like the sabian aa, the bell has a good ping to it, for beginners i recommend a b8

  • I wouldnt recommend a B8, B8;s are horrible cymbals, and the ride pings for about 10 minutes. B8 Pros on the other hand ive found are worth three times the price you pay for them, and are a very nice beginner cymbal

  • Plain B8 are way better then B8 Pro. B8 pro is to thick and barley able to produce tone. But i do like the Ride bu the crashes and Highats are wya to thick

  • i like the hats. HATE rides and crashes. b8 crashes are nice b8 hats are terrible havenot played the b8 ride

  • This video is not for drummers, not even learners because 1 hour after you start playing you will realise most of what is said here.

  • agreed

  • You don't need to tell us how to hit a ride cymbal lol

  • how much is a ride cymbal??.. im new to drumming but i kno how to play.. lol

  • however much you wanna pay for one

  • I'm a new drummer too. I got a very nice ddrum double bass set for Christmas with starter Cymbals. When I went to the nearest muysic store to buy good cymbals (1 hours away :D )I spent about $360-$400 on just a hi-hat, ride, two bass pedals, and a new snare head! Have to go back for the crashes later still! :O

An expert at one of the store told me that you will spend more money on cymbals then on the drumkit itself!

  • true cymbals freaking expensive

  • Its true, cymbals cost alot. My hats were 400 alone, and most of my cymbals were 400-600 each. Plus my bass pedals were 500, so you got a good price, even if theyre only starter cymbals and pedals

  • very true, but sets and even snare drums alone can get into the thousand dollar range. it gets expensive but the more you go along with your drumming, the more worth it it gets.

  • is getting more of the bell as well:)

  • haha its so funny i was looking up how to use the ride and i fall into this video...lol i go here

  • please tell me if i must take stand with arm or straight for my ride

  • if u dont like the sound of the tip hitting the bell than a 21" z custom mega bell ride cleans that up for u

  • good lesson

  • i need a part 2! that was really helpful!

  • because is the very coit of the mader guasken!

  • thx!

  • hardly use the tip to play the bell, it just doesn't have that big FAT sound..

  • awesome, learned new ways to play the ride

  • I sure did try that lesson now I know how to play the ride Thanks Mr.Bellotti

  • Lol, I randomly saw your video and realized I purchased from you on ebay before.

  • dude you're awesome as well as that cymbal! Thanks!

  • interesting

  • To both Doriguin and cristian2001:

the cymbals you use in jazz are most often a lot different then the cymbals you use in common rock music, but you happen to be quite lucky, searching for a ride, because rides is, in my opinion, the only cymbal type that can (note that 'can' people, just so don't go nuts) be versatile enough to be used in both of those music genres.

  • (max 500 characters per post) The thing you need is a very large medium/thin ride, which mostly results in a VERY easy controllable sticking sound (from almost unable to cut through the wash of the cymbal to a heavy ride like stick sound) and medium/a lot wash. Check out the Zildjian K 24inch light ride... maybe the 24inch Armand medium ride to (mostly rock cymbal)... I would suggest the K...

  • Try K Custom ride, or K Custom special dry ride.

  • I'm looking for a nice zildjian ride that's good for jazz and rock. Can anbody suggest a nice ride I might want to look at?

  • love those cymbals!!! they're expensive here in the Philippines! Nice tutorial sir Bellotti! You'll be blessed!!!Ü

  • A Custom rides are better than Armand rides, huge difference.

  • AAAAAAARGH! face the fact that people doesn't necessarily like it different then your...

  • i want some armand cymbals!!!

  • sweet lesson. i'll have to try hitting the ride on the side like you demonstrated. it sounded almost like a bell, never thought of it

  • And it almost look like a gretsch drum set with the gts suspension system, is it?

  • HECK YES MOON GEL!!

  • Alright, I understand.

By the way, I'm the one who won the Sabian Vault Ride on ebay :P

Can't wait for it to arrive

  • But technique in turn gives better sound. If you want even better sound, you should learn good technique. Having good technique also gives you an advantage with speed and things of the sort.

  • again....when it's time to play fast i will change accordingly

    Sincerely

    Sergio Bellotti

    drumset faculty at Berklee College

  • hey can you recomended me a crashable zildjian ride ??

  • @Greenblackie man...sergio is the man...and he studied with dom famularo..i think he knows what good technique is....

  • Your technique isn't that good.

  • sound is my only one priority!i do change techniques often and really do not care much about HOW do i get the sound i need? this is also how i teach my students.....

happy to discuss this more if you would like

email me at sergiobelotti at gmail dot com

  • can i have your opinion about the zildjian 21 inch armand ride

  • LOVE IT

ON ALL MY GIGS NOW...AND WATCH FOR THE 22" COMING OUT SOON HOPEFULLY!

    THANKS

NEED ZILDJIANS ...email me at 247drums at gmail dot com

    THANKS!

  • though not very usefull on a ride, you can also strike the cymbal over/on the edge from above to get a more crash like sound.
