Have just watched my version of The Whicker Man and now I know my version has had about 30 mins cut out of it; why I don't know - it was made in 1973 for crying out loud!
Wow! I have not seen some of the pictures/clips from my version of this amazing film!!! Why do they do this? Not give you the full film these days? What is the problem?!!!! RIP Edward Woodward - wonderful actor.
@Blabloo72 British lion had a management change while the film was being shot. The new owners of the company hated the film and had no idea how to sell it. Some bright spark ordered it cut down as short as possible. It was then released with very little promotion and as you would expect, didn't do very well. The original negative of the removed footage is said to have been accidentally buried in land fill. Only one longer print exist's, which was used to create the directors cut dvd(99mins)
@Wildgeese73 There is a reason for this that you don't seem aware of. Christopher Lee offered to fund the publicing of the film himself. The 'repressors' of the movie opposed to the themes it presents. We are not suppose to know about our heathen (pagan) past. That information has been surpressed by the christians, the capitolist and anyone else in 'control' of mind & state... the reason the film almost wasn't released. God forbid if we started to work with nature again instead controlling it.
i have both the original vinyl lps , they are my very prized possesions and when i get toasted they will be coming with me and their rebirth will sadly not be their own but probably as mp3s.
Is the instrumental version of Gently Johnny on the soundtrack? I'm not too fond of the movie, I'll admit, save for a few scenes, but I LOVE the music and I'm thinking of looking for the soundtrack.
anyone welcome to our lovely island.we don t do sacrifices!where did you here that?we sacrifice animals but the last human sacrifice was back in 1973...
So who sings the opening song? It's not on the soundtrack, CD only featuring on the film, and it is by far the most evocative piece, making every other singer sound so middle class. She sings a if she has actually walked across a field or two, remainder sounding as if comes from a carry on film, especially The Landlord's Daughter: awful... so generic, sounds like it could come from anywhere, surely the antithesis of what folk music is, the most locality-specific of musics. Wonderful film though.
....Every other song sounds so RADA, can't imagine hearing it in the wilds of Skye. Her voice does seem all the more apt as the plane flies across the Quarraing and over the Old Man of Storr.
This is one of the best vids i've watched. Saw this great film last week and cant get enough of the plot, the acting or the music. LONG LIVE THE WICKER MAN!
You are despicable little liars!! Lol, I love Edward Woodward and this movie! Add Christopher Lee and the lovely Britt Ekland, and some spooky folk music, and pagan mythology.. what else could one ask for?
Rossel Hope Robbins made an excellent observation when it came to the Holy Inquisition. He came out with a book called "The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft and Demonology". He claimed that there were no witches. One day during his speech, he made the same statement, but Sybil Leek was present with her familiar, Hotfoot Jackson on her shoulder. Her response was: "Oh yes there are"! I liked the 1873 version of Wicker Man better than the new one which was released a few years ago.
unlucky because he was conned out of his life,a fool because he died a virgin....oh well better luck in the next life.......great movie, till the end.
@starclad No, he's a fool because he took the role of King for a Day - and who but a fool would do that?
And I think the ending is fine. It's hard, but it works perfectly. I've been watching this movie since 1985. Don't know how many times I've seen it. I'm glad younger people are appreciating it too! BB!
It was a disgrace! I got quite a shock in the cinema. I was hoping they might have tried to build on the wonderful 1973 film... not bloody ruin it. Not to mention it put across the wrong message.
words cant describe how good this film, and the accompanying soundtrack are... I have never seen a film that sucks you into its 'world' as much as this. I wouldnt say nick cage is talentless, but his remake of the wicker man ranks high up in the list of plain wrongs
that song gently johnny is haunting, i love it

Christopher Lee. What can you say about him? 88 years old and over 200 movies on his resume. He is one of the best actors of all time.

An absolute classic.the 110 minute version is the best. The directors cut has scenes on the mainland that take from the film IMO.

"I hope you mean the directors cut of the original stray and not the re-make that had that talentless twat Nicholas Cage in it."
I didn't even know that The Wicker Man was a remake.. So the version I saw was the one with Nick Cage .. Now I want to see this one.
Thanks for sending me the music to this film buddy!! .. This folk singer is gonna defo learn a few of those awesome tunes!
