whenever i undo the lid of my ball mill all of the bp is stuck to the bottom of the mill... why is this? and how can i stop it from happening? because it seems to be preventing all of the powder from being milled the same amount........ many thanks!!!
guys i need help . my ball mill kept realeasing white stinky smoke ! is the engine gonna blow ? im from malaysia and i bought it at pyrocreations . thanks
It is much safer to use your ball mill outside. Considering building a sound-dampening plywood box and using sandbags to absorb the blast if one occurs.
thats a beginner mill. Honestly it will make very good blackpowder but if you plan on having something last, get or make a better ball mill. The belts on those mill break constantly and they arent very well built. I had one so i know. good tutorial though.
he he nice mt eden track in the background sierra leone is one of there best and good video btw. But can you explain to me why i should never mill flashpowder??
Fantastic video, just what I wanted to see. I amjust about to get a ball mill and was wondering if there was a youtube video to help and then I found your video. Great work.
@jjab99 Thank you! Thats exactly the reason I made this video. When I first got my ball mill, it was hard to find video of someone actually using it correctly and teaching others how to use it, so I made this video.
@mrmeowmix2300 can i use muzzeloader lead balls im guessing i can but just dont want my house to burn down or my ball mill 2 burn and can i make bp by just doin tht putting it all together in a ball mill yeh less work
Good video. Also gives good 'review' of that 3lbs ball mill.
You might want to add more grinding media so there would be 50% of it. It would give better efficiency, if motor can handle it. In video meal powder hasn't been grinded properly (if you can see sulfur particles with your eye then it needs more milling).
@qwert0091 Thank you. It would be too much weight if I filled the barrel 50% with media. Where do you see visible sulfur particles? The meal powder in this video made great black powder.
hello my ball mill is producing an enormous amount of smoke it is new and i am afraid to use it because i think it might explode do you know why this could be happening
@CAIDMASTEROFPYRO Where is the smoke coming from? The barrel where the chemicals are or the motor of the ball mill? What color and consistency is the smoke? Is the product inside the mill burning? What kind of media are you using, because if your are not using lead with black powder or other pyrotechnic materials, this could be the problem.
@mrmeowmix2300 the smoke is coming from the motor compartment it is a dense Grey smoke and my media is ceramic media from pyrocreations and the bp is fine
@mrmeowmix2300 i discovered that in America were i got it they use 110 volt mains power and her in Australia i use 240 so i just need a step down converter
@CAIDMASTEROFPYRO Im sure there are many people out there who ignore all warnings and go right to this in hopes of making a super flash powder. Unfortunately, not many people film their ball mills while milling, so their stupidity will be hard to find on tape lol.
Where do YOU buy your kno3, I bought mine from this one dude (on eBay) and it s very pure, i have done tests. And my BP is faster than a lot of peoples BP. But i think it was his last batch. But anyways, i got 10lb of kno3 ($14 shipping, lol, i totally forgot about the shipping). n by the way mill for 24hr, better BP.
@fireworkgalore The 3lb mill is here: bit.[ly]/dgc3bX its $55. Their bigger ones are a lot more though. Where do you get that much kno3 for that little? I want in! LOL. As I said, not that big of a loss considering I wanted to try out buying from their site anyways.
"Interesting, because i went online to them and it cost $140+, but still, $25 i spend a little more than $25 to get 10lb of kno3. So you wasted a little bit more money than needed. But when i went on their site i was like, "He is so stupid, wasting that kind of money." lol, no offense"
Return this $140+ thing and go to harborfreighttools(dot)com, or go to their store. You get the same thing but different package and no sticker on the side saying "3lb capacity ball mill." And every ball mill you get (they call it a rock tumbler) you always get a extra drive belt, FOR ONLY $30. For all the extra $110 you save, buy chemicals.
@fireworkgalore LOLOLOLOL This "thing" did not cost me $140+ dollars. This cost me about $55 dollars, and it came with an extra drive belt as well. Why is the sticker so big of a deal, it dosent bother me. I definitely wouldn't have saves $110, more like $25, but it didnt matter that much to me because I wanted to try out the website I bought it from anyway.
For safety, it would be better to ball mill black powder outside in a safe location. There have been a few incidents where black powder has ignited inside a ball mill. Remember, safety first.
@Banditrobber I think I said something about that in the video. If I didnt, I should have mentioned that I used it indoors to make it easy to film the process.
@morganhv Mine is still good after many runs, so I cant say for sure. If you take good care of the ball mill and oil it, it will probably last a long time.
very nice. i use a commecrial rock tumbler. well, i made a mill but it isnt running now, so i have a replacement. i also use .50 cal lead muzzle loading balls but i only use about 50. mu mill is much smaller though. its only 2 pint.
You probably can, its not a weapon or firework by itself. The only thing is that it used lead balls, so your gonna have to check to see if there are any special rules for that.
The meal powder from the mill? Or the Mg flash. Cause if your talking about the Mg flash...
LOL I KNEW YOU WOULD SAY THAT! It WILL be filmed soon, Ive just been distracted by my new ball mill, the BP that comes out of it, and other stuff. Also, the powder from the mill is amazing, the granulated it even better. I can actually lift shells now (I made a 2" one, worked great!)
uh yea both black powder and mg flash and yea once i get enough money ill buy a rocket tumbler from hobby lobby but i just need to find a good cheap media. and cool cant wait to see ur lift in action!
Ok Ill make a new BP Test video and an Mg Test video soon! Make sure that if your buying a rock tumbler, it spins at over 40rpm, because many tumblers spin very slowly. Try to only use lead and maybe brass media. Ive also heard 2$ worth of nickles will work great if given more time in the mill.
if i ball mill for like 24h or more will the mortor over heat
please someone answer me,

Harbor Freight has those same ball mills on sale for $39 and they come with four extra drive belts.
I usually mill double that batch amount but I also use larger ball media.

@conb33 You cannot mill flashpowder because theres a chance that the force from the lead balls colliding could ignite it inside of the mill.

5:16 for example. Little yellow dots.
But i agree that it made good powder given the fact that small mill was used combined with low milling time for that mill.
