i used to have a CDI along with this game. I won a TV show and this was the prize... What a bunch of motherfuckers, they could have give me a neo geo, would have been the same price...
Please forgive me. Yesterday I listened to some ABBA, watched some Naruto on DVD (not as good as the comic), then played this game. The result of doing these contradictory things involving many countries may have accidentally caused a few Red giant stars to explode prematurely. Also...played with a gamepad (I use the one with that stupid fake mini-joystick on the d-pad) this game isn't bad, though a bit simplistic.
Hey man, its Infogrames, not infogames. Might sound like a little thing, but its like if people started calling you Steph instead of Steve. Okay, its only a little thing. I'll shut up.
@nicholasthetaylor Yes, I noticed that a while after recording the video, but since I can't alter the video once it's up, and I'm not going to take it down just for misreading the name... y'know :)
@SteveBenway Don't blame you. I was wondering, you have a huge collection of consoles and a down to earth demeanour; do you have a favourite piece of equipment and sotware? I get the impression from what I've seen that its your A1200 Tower and Octamed Soundstudio or possibly Imagine, but that's just a guess. Do you have any plans for your collection, like setting them up in a big futuristic (in a 20th century sense) habitat?
@nicholasthetaylor My 1200 Tower is definitely my fave piece of hardware, but software... I don't think I could pick a piece of retro software. My fave gaming franchise is easily Gran Turismo though.
I don't have the space or money to make a fancy setup for my collection, so my only ambition there is to have them set up in a tidy manner on shelves with easy access to both hardware and software, so I can set up a system and play games without too much fuss.
@SteveBenway I demoed and sold this, as well as the 3DO, in stores like Electronics Universe. I couldn't sell it very well because I knew video games and knew this wasn't very good. There was another lady who sold with me who didn't care if it was good, she would lie to people to sell units.
I expected better animations from the game like this. Graphics and menus look pretty inviting. And I am sure it is a nightmare to play action games like tennis on the CDi remote.
Trying not to join in with the "im playing with this" (shows phallic object) This actually looks like a real game, the only experience ive had with the cdi was the zelda game (one of them) which was awefull. P.s. havnt been on for a while and youve come up with and intro and song and everything, nice!
Hi Steve lol, your a bit of a techno guy and I got an atari 2600 problem I was wondering if you have any ideas about. Basically, my vadar is right at the edge of my flat screen tv's fine tuning and it can not hold the signal for more than ten seconds. The vadar works fine with the old tvs and my 2600 Juniors work fine with the big tv. Is there some sort of internal adjustment you can make to the tuning of the 2600 like you can with Amigas (I think)?
I know exactly the problem you're talking about, as I have it with several of my systems.
I know that inside the 7800 there is this component with a turnable screw type thing that adjusts the frequency of the video output. It may be that there's something similar in a 2600... but I don't know, as I've never looked.
I see they have ninjas for ball boys at that court. Pretty awesome. By the way, when you selected the Garret chap at the beginning, I thought you'd be playing as him, not against him. Imagine my surprise when the game was kissing his ass all through the match.
your a glutton for punishment playing the game using that awkward looking controller. Why noy have a grenade tennis ball that goes after so many rallies.
Well, I managed to watch the rest (in the end) - I finally got it to work after switching HQ off. :S
Anyway, it cut off just as you said: "speaking of habits..." and I was thinking: "is this what I think it is?" and I found out from reading your channel comments that it was. :)
Also, yeah, we know it wasn't your fault re: the controls. You even managed to have a few rallies, so it wasn't all bad.
I have the basic grey wired pad, it does the job. Better though is my adaptor that allows use of Sega Genesis pads I got from Ebay a while back, that works great, I hope to have time to do a video about it at some point...........
Great game

@fjccommish I haven't touched the thing since recording this (a year ago)... that's how much I like it... lol.
Saying that, I have Burn Cycle for it now and need to do a video of that, so I'm gonna have to dig the thing out again soon.

Gameplay seems alright, although you could probably do with a real controller.

Doesn't look to bad but yeah, you could have found a better controller. That spoon does wonders not.
You should make this tennis game with fire arms, Steve! I'll do the voice acting of the crowd screaming.

Video stops at 6:26. :(
From what I watched up until that point: the graphics on that system are pretty good, the control interface seems terrible, though.
Good 2 thirds of a SWILL, until YouTube stops acting up and I can watch the rest. :(

That sounds like a very useful thing to have.
Now... how about a Sega Menacer adaptor for this game? Why use grenades when you can use a bazooka? ;)
SteveBenway 2 years ago
"bluetooth" in the early 90s? ;)
you should definately get a wired controller or gamepad.
the remote is just for videos & stuff, not really for gaming.
macintoshgermany 2 years ago
Fair point... there was no bluetooth back then :) Wired would almost certainly have been preferable, just to get away from the lag.
SteveBenway 2 years ago
There are a few wired gamepads for the CD-i, i would highly recommend to pick one up.
Oh, and "the apprentice" is a pretty good platformer for the cd-i.
macintoshgermany 2 years ago
Even the wired ones will suffer from lag on a lot of CD-i games. This one included.
HalfBlindGamer 2 years ago
Yeah, it does look quite nice. Cool to see the cd-i up and running. A tennis game with weaponary is crying out for a release!!
