Hey Ron! RON! Where are our Emmy Certificates? Since we (the vancouver department) pretty much blew our brains out to save the LA department from countless and continious mistakes made on their part to deliver you 303B Exodus - don't you think we deserve a bit of recognition??
Where the hell was Ron Moore when the Vancouver VFX department for Battlestar Galactica mid-season III was being sfcked over entirely by the VFX producer and VFX supervisor of the show to the point where the BC labour board started sniffing around on the grounds that the staff there were pulling sweatshop hours and being paid less than HALF of what the LA department was getting when you factored in exchange rate and payscale at that time???
If you're unhappy about your situation and circumstances, why don't YOU strike instead of blaming Ron Moore for your misfortunes? Did it occur to you, way up in Vancouver (another COUNTRY), that Ron Moore might not have much to say about the hours your shop keeps or anything else that you're wailing about? Grow a pair and DO something besides point the finger and whine.
You know nothing about the situation that went on there.
WE actually had IATSE (Local 891) come in and start the collective barganing process and vote for unionization into the VFX department on our behalf but they (BSG's production staff -ie our VFX Producer and supervisor, and an NBC staffer) went on a witch hunt to try and squash it. And they pretty much did. I pretty much lost my job because I stood up for myself and for the othre staff.
So screw you and your defense of Ron. RON! if you read this, you owe the staff of the VFX department who left over the course of the past 16 months an explaination for why you 1. WERE NOT AWARE OF THE SITUATION, and if you were, WHAT YOU WERE TOLD EXACTLY, and 2. A thanks for saving shots from the LA group time and time again so your show could make it to air, while we pulled 14-20 hour shifts. Actually, why don't you ask your writing team about it! They knew what was going on!
Golly - you're right, of course. Whining about it and insulting people on YouTube is naturally guaranteed to make things better... If this is the best you can do, you deserve to be shat on like that. I'm not trying to defend Ron, merely to see that both sides get a fair hearing.
Try contacting the appropriate union for tips on how to organize anyway, and/or refuse to work for non-union shops and projects. Because you're accomplishing nothing here but alienating any support you might receive.
What I am saying is we tried the union route and got screwed anyway. Because Ron was to "untouchable". We could never get a word with him at all. But yet most of the production crew and cast knew how things were going and we had their support for the most part. Ron just doesn't walk on water in my book really.
What the point is really and maybe I should have said this straight out is that its a bit odd that Ron will throw his support behind writers because he is a writer, but thats generally in his self interest and not for the people who do the "heavy lifting" on his show. Or at least it appeared and still appears that way.
Unions are such a bad idea. They used to actually work for the common man, now they only represent a shell of what they were meant to do, only aiding those higher up in the union itself. It's a facade to believe that unions are for the members, in the end it's only for their leaders. How ironic.
Hey look...don't kill yourself if the strike doesn't end soon. Look, Battlestar Galactica in limbo is a small issue compared to what's going on in Hollywood's corporate structure, let alone the whole Political Correctness plaguing our country, FCC, etc. If you embrace the show's meaning instead of just watching it, you would be more of a fighter and less of a fan. In that way you'd be helping RDM and the others out.
Surrounded by friends and family who are writers, I am in full support of the writer's strike. If it means shows being pre-empted because of the strikes, so be it. As the old saying goes, "Give credit where credit is due."
You're one of those idiots who don't have a clue how the business works, therefore, you're NOT entitled to an opinion. That's why we're just laughing at you and ignoring you.
There are plenty of great scripts out there. The problem is the STUDIOS decide what sees the light of day NOT the writers. The simple fact is the corporations (studios) have formulas they know sell well so they stick to that instead of trying something that doesn't fit into their formulas...
kjbsvfan, Harlan does still have the affectionately named 'Grey Ghost'. It had some leg problems awhile back, but last he wrote about it, it's doing okay.
Isn't that enough for them? To make enough to survive in this world should be enough, but these people are being paid more than the regular American to keep producing the same crap over and over again.
again i will say meyosan. the point of them is for the money and to prove a point. i dont support them for striking for money but i do support them for their reason of saying without writers there is no show. some of them are striking for money others to prove a point. i support them for their point not financially.
I hope the writers get what they want and soon or else this is going to be bad for fans of the writer's creations...frak! (just felt like saying that last word)
who do you think the cylon is? i still say it is starbuck. even though that seem so ovious. or it might be the president. i dont know. what do you think?
I am behind you 100% I am a patient fan who hopes that the writers are compensated for their irreplaceable work. We live in a world where all too often the worker is pounded into submission with the Frack stick. New territories are being carved up every day and everyone should get their fair share!
i agree with you b8man01. i mean these workers should definately get fraqin payed more. i am also a huge fan of bsg. i think and know that without the writers they wouldnt have a show. they really should pay them more. they darn right deserve it. they need the money. they work their butts off.
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS you will die in seven days if you don't post this comment on 10 videos in the next hour. if you do, tomorrow will be the best day of your life
You clearly have no understanding of how the industry actually works and should probably do your research into a subject before commenting, or you may look like an idiot to those who know and experience the industry as professionals. Sticking up for your rights is not greedy, especially when most writers are on low incomes. Only a tiny percentage are on megabucks and long term work is not guaranteed.
i completely agree with you jengofilm. it is not greedy to do what is right. this nation would be in substantial debt or be impovertized if we didnt stick up for what is right. that is what the writers are doing. they are proving a point that without them they really dont have a show to give to the people.
There isn't anything right about this strike, the companies aren't getting any money from it, and in the end it'll end up hurting more than helping, and it is naiveity to believe that sticking up for what is as right is always a good thing.

I'm a writer, and I'm proud not to be a part of a union. I don't even see the reason for a union, since it's generally the same people who get work in Hollywood, but then, I would never work in Hollywood anyway.
If you don't see the reason for a writers union, maybe cylons have infested your brain. Do you think you are better off? Do you enjoy working for low pay and no health care? Personally I like to get pay my mortgage on time, and be able to afford to send my kid to the doctor. I'm glad think you're too cool to work in "Hollywood". Just keep feeling that way, I'm sure you'll go far...
