  • you fucking beast, and also is andrew castle commentating

  • Nowadays that's a common shot.

  • @r6vgowchamp well ur just a fussy twat

  • i like the lunging steps to reach that ball. he did that with a bad ankle in this match

  • Magnificent shot!Absolutely astonishing!

  • I prefer when he does the running cross court forehand. Nasty

  • federer didnt have this shot in his book. Flat forehands. Its the main weapon to be able to hut nadal because he hate to convert flat shots into topspin using his slow swing.

  • @hugobossdb

mmmm not really. Sampras had the best running forehand in history. Nobody said hes a better runner than nadal, were saying he has a better running forehand. Tennis experts agree

  • Best running forehand in history. However this video is not a very good indicative of his true running forehand. His running forehand was actually much more powerful than his normal forehand, which seems odd. Nor Roger or Nadal ever reproduced Pete's running forehand. There is a huge difference between Pete's running forehand and just a hook forehand. I have seen many players demonstrate the latter.

  • ye that was amazing, cept the fact that ppl do that all the time these days . i.e. federer

  • That was amazing.

  • i would like Samprass in his top 1994 face nadal or federrer .

  • Getting back to tennis: The perfect tennis player must have great athleticism, moveabilty and great reaction times. White Boris Becker had superb ey vision, gret reflexes and coordination, but poor athletic abilities. Whites Sampras, Nadal & Federer have it all, Eye vision, coordination, mental strengths AND running speed.

I just wonder, what would happen, if a biomechanical black wunderkind like Jordan would appear on the court. Well, Roger & Pete are the Jordans of Tennis.

    Yes: Fuck Racism!

  • correction GODLY

  • All those old, ignorant guys out here on youtube whining about how tennis has changed. In my opinion tennis has really gotten better, the level of today's tennis is exceptional and the rallies are better than ever. Just look at the australian open matches, it's brilliant.

  • @mysteriekiller well tennis has changed. but in no way was it better than tennis today. with the addition of new technology, tennis has become a much more fast paced game relying on groundstrokes, which is great to watch. back 15+ years ago, tennis was much more serve and volley, and the old grass played much faster than today. technically tennis has changed; today's game is different, not better or worse than yesterdays game

  • His forehands are shit now and they are jst purely made and not talent. Now that he's lost all that weight he cant get enough power behind his shots.

  • If it's so easy to 'make' this shot then why aren't more players copying Nadal's FH?

  • Nadal always jst hits those gay looping forehands that always land short now. So all these big flat heavy hitters e.g. del potro and soderling. He will never live up wat that of sampras has achieved.

  • I agree. Nadal is so athletic, but those loopey shots, lol. He relies so much on athleticism... He will be burned out soon. Like Chang , When you run so much it takes its toll.

  • so what would you recommend to Nadal, if you were his coach? "Rafa, if Roger hits an extreme cross or a dropshot, dont run for it, coz it will hurt your muscles & knees? It will pay in the longrun if you only run a little bit." ??

Nadal´s style is indeed very demanding & ideal for clay. He should try to shorten the points with pure drives rather then topspin and stop sliding into the balls.

Consider! Haas, Kuerten, Stich, Agassi, Nalbandian, Safin...they all had injuries.

    Pete´s FH is WOW !

  • you said "wait till blacks come with there athleticism." I just think that was a stupid comment because tennis has been around for so long. You could take the sport of tennis to Africa. Does that mean that they are gonna end up flooding the ATP and WTA tour? I just dont think so. And dont give me the "well blacks dont have the same opportunities"... Thats B.S. The poorest areas in the USA arent black but Native American Reservations.

  • Hi rooster, I am not sure about the chances of blacks, mexicans, natives or martian or whoever in the US to get in contact with tennis. Yet I would pressume, that tennis is rather a white sport, Arthur Ashe , Goolagong and the Williams had to fight vs prejudices.

And in Africa tennis is definetaly quite unpopular among blacks.

The better the chances, the bigger the number of players of a so far underrepresented group.

  • Nadal is the king of those forehands.

  • Playing today is very easier with those big raquets

  • Incredible shot by 90s standards. Routine in today's tennis with guys like Federer & Nadal.

  • Actually, you are wrong. This was Sampras's running forehand, and he had the GREATEST running forehand of all time.

Federer and Nadal can't even compare.

  • @LDis1 I disagree because the running forehand is played very differently nowadays because of the way most play. I've seen Fed and Nadal hitting forehands like this when they were facing players at the net, it just doesn't happen often anymore, the dynamics have changed. I believe Sampras, Federer and Nadal have one of the best running forehands. But fully agree Sampras had a truly unique running forehand.

  • @LDis1 But I could name many amazing running forehands by Fed (especially vs. DelPo USO '09) Open and Nadal (especially some insane ones at RG) but their style is very different. I do prefer the Pistol Pete and Fed forehands, they're like shotguns!!

  • @Elwink Del potro actually out hit federer on those forehand winners in that match at 09 open finals.

Sampras and Nadal are the top 2 ever to play the game

  • @LittleVinnyCock I think federer should be up there aswell...Federer just has pure talent and is able to produce magic on a regular basis. Nadal is just so good because of his brutal palying style. Sampras was just awesome =D

  • What is tennis going to be in 10 years? :( crazy crazy points from today tennis will be routine in 10 years :( (I hope not^^)

  • in title it says forehand, description it says backhand :P

  • Comment removed

  • @seaslime22 he has 2 wonderful weapons xD

  • @seaslime22 This was because the two shots were amazing ^^

  • that shot was not AMAZING like the title said. good. but not amazing

  • the title doesn't say amazing, it says wonderful, learn to read

  • k it was still not wonderful

  • Lol, on that one I have to say you are right. nice one.

  • lol

  • up yours!!

  • the title didn't even say amazing jackass

  • epic fail lol

  • NICE PERCISION

  • Precision.

  • against goran ivanisevic!

  • Nadal do this always whit your banana shot. Pete, the worst in clay

  • Again, Nadal's running FH cannot compare to Sampras's running FH....

  • Yeah, you can't compare their running FHs because it was a big deal when Sampras hit them back then, but now it's routine when Nadal hits them.

  • If you look at the era, Sampras had it rougher because they were far more vollyers putting the ball all over the place. Nadal actually has it easier.

  • He wouldn't make Sampras look foolish at net, Sampras would make look like his whore at the baseline.

  • No need to sound do dismissive of past players. Today's players only hit those sorts of shots more consistently because of the luxilon strings. Any random nobody can hit a good passing shot now.

This is partly why there aren't as many S&Vers today.

  • what is so special about those strings?

  • It's a very stiff string which, with a lot of raquet head speed, allows you to generate wicked spin. This in turn allows you to hit harder, more consistently.

  • ooo come on...you think that players can make those shots only because of the equipment?

    Because of Luxilon strings...lol

  • Then please feel free to tell me all of these intrinsic differences between today's players and those in the 90s.

You might as well throw in the 80s, 70s and 60s too - had the equipment remained constant, there wouldn't be very many differences at all.

  • Between the 70 and now is indeed a huge difference. Borg & Vilas played Topspin to play safer, reduced errors. Nadal&Fed&others play topspin to hit harder & weirder angles. I guess Muster, Rios & others in the 90ties already played with similar spin and angles. There is simply a constant evolution both in equipment AND level of the game.

Who knows what we will think about future tennis. Possibly there will be 20 players like Federer or Nadal.

Wait, till blacks come with their athleticism.

  • your an idiot. Blacks with there athleticism? Hmm, isnt that racial profiling? Im waiting. Just cause the Williams sisters are top pros doesnt mean people with "black skin" have an advantage, lol. Tennis is lots to do with athleticism but much more to do with hand eye coordination and mental. The top players are more mentally tough than the others. THats why Sampras was so great. He was incredible athletic, great shots, but also great mental. How many tantrums did he throw?

  • Hi Mrooster. I admit that my comment might have a racist connotation, I am sorry for that. I dont see myself as a racist, as I have friends & had girlfriends of all colours. However, it is obvious that the percentage of top athletes that run faster & jump higher is bigger among west-africans & their descendants. We may discuss to which degree this may be genetically caused or whether this is all bullshyt. Tennis is as you said not only about running, but it is "part of the game" (Agassi)

  • and you say "it is obvious that the percentage of top athletes that run faster .........is bigger among west africans & their descendants." Oh really? Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia dominate a large part of long distance running, but thats not "West Africans". Lots of pro baseball is "Black" but that has nothing to do that black is better than white, its just baseball is huge in Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, & Cuba. Only track n field sprints where "Blacks" dominate.

  • With running I obviously meant short distance running, NOT Marathon. I recently ran a Marathon and left a very athletic black behind me. But the top were of course Kenyans and Ethopians, so East Africans. They possibly have a genetic benefit, too. Long distance running is very very popular in Europe, but so far, no European nor East Asian could break into the phalanx of Africans.

So what? I neither say, that "us" europeans are of minor value nor that EVERY African is a great athlete.

  • You are right that the popularity of a sport has a decisive factor. India & Pakistan are world leading in Cricket, which is similar to baseball, as far as I know. A multicultural, populous country like the USA with almost all fascets of the human gene-pool has the best chances to excel in all sports. But as soccer is rather unpopular in the USA, small countries like Portugal or Italy, where soccer is a religion, usually beat the US team.

    Genes are not everything.

  • you really dont know what the heck your talking about. Luxilon strings dont create more consistant shots. Luxilon strings have more "pop" than synthetic gut strings, but they dont create more "consistancy". Then you say "Any random nobody can hit a good passing shot now". Lol, any? Top 1000? Struggling satellite/challenger tour pro? Whose hitting the approach and is it one with good backspin that sits low and skids? Thats why tennis is so boring now cause no good serve n volleyers.

  • I agree

  • thanks to the ridiculously slow grass and new strings.

  • Indeed.

  • Sampras was famous for his running forehand which made him really dangerous.

  • Well...can we call tennis this...

    Serve...rally....rally...rally...rally....rally.....rally....unforced error

    Serve....rally....rally....rally....zzz....rally....net

    Serve....rally....rally....rally....rally...ralllyyyyyzzzzzz....

LOL dude...tennis is supposed to have all types of courts and all types of players...it was perfect in the 90s...the baseliners on clay serve-n-volley on grass...good competition on the hards...and sampras was not just serve...he had serve+volley which was gr8 to watch

  • Hey! Clay can be boring and too defensive some times -I never said different. I personally love the AO tennis and Wimbledon now that it's a little slower and they can actually play.

Anyway, rallies are part of the game. Waiting for them to hit the ball once is not.

  • I'm guessing you don't hit that many aces yourself, hey... Ok then...

  • I'm guessing you like wandering off the point to sound witty.

  • for Petes running forehand does he use a eastern grip or a contienental it really didnt look like he had time to switch grips.

  • same grip. he never changed i dont think. im pretty sure though.

  • this is where he hurt himself i believe and it pretty much cost him later in the year for the uso,

  • Nah. He originally hurt it in the Sf vs Todd Martin. He played the final with brace on his ankle. He made the mistake of playing Davis Cup vs the Netherlands after, and he damaged his ankle, shin, fiblua even more.

He was out for the entire summer of 1994 and it was not healed 100% at the US Open. Pete won 8th tilte (in 9 finals) at Wimbledon losing the Quens final to Martin, and 2 the rest of the year, That injury cost him a monster year.

  • Yeh they make big deals out of other players saying "pete never had a completley dominant year" but how many times did pete have shit come up to keep him from being a monster completley, 94 injury, 95 tim is sick and not to mention andrecomes into his own, 96 tim dies, 97 sick food poisonin at FO, injured in DC end of yr, 98 injury carries over creates rust+ injured at uso + pressure + Pete fischeris exposed as paedophile brings up questions about sampras, 99 Back injury before USO.

  • But injury is a part of how good a player is. Although something like food poisoning is pretty unavoidable, how prone a player is to injury also plays a large part in how good that player is. You really cant use things like injuries to say that a player "could" have been dominant.

  • Actually, he was diagnosed with posterior tibial tendonitis on his right foot by the time he left Wimby cos he got out of Tacchini and signed Nike right before Wimby 94 and his foot didn't fit to the Nike shoe and was hurtin and swollen. Had to pull out of whole summer schedule and recovered only during late fall in Stockholm, where Tim started having those passing out problems caused by tumor.

  • that was a forehand winner not a backhand
