I know my truck is 3.7 m high (12' 2"), so I will not go under any bridge marked 3.8m (12' 6") Always allow for discrepancies. All I see here is a driver caught out as we all do some times. He stopped that was the main thing.
I remember when I was driving OTR from Minneapolis to Chicago. Experienced Chicago truckers would tell of steel plates welded under bridges to lower the clearance a few inches more to keep trucks out of certain neighborhoods and shortcuts. Led to alot of get out and look on my part in certain areas of the windy city.
for all who said 'no clearance sign on bridge' there is clearly a sign visible at 0:48 and as a Truck Driver of some experience it was part of my job to know the clearance height of the rig and trailer. the car driver did nothing wrong and was probably waved through by the truck driver. we cant see that angle and i would've waved them through if i was stuck, as this driver is. mistakes happen and this one is squarely on the rig driver. lucky the rig slowed down but still got it stuck under.

@1AussieAvenger1 In the state of NY bridges are marked at least 1 ft lower then they actually are. I take a 13ft. 6in high tractor-trailer under a bridge, on the BQE in Brooklyn, NY, that is marked 12 ft 3 in. all the time.

I wish that every driver of any vehicle would be required to get the same training as the truckers and bus drivers are required to. Considering this was an unmarked bridge, this is an incredibly smart truck driver not being able to rely on a sign marking the height of the bridge, not knowing whether its a safe 13'6" or if its shorter, fantastic judgement on the part of the Truck driver. I think you should re-name it smart truck driver. maybe he was in an unfamiliar area. He sees he's not going to make it and does the right thing by stopping to make sure. The damage isn't allways just to the truck or trailer, it can also damage the structure that is being driven under. Why isn't there a sign with clearance marked? What state or country is this that allows underpasses to go unmarked with warnings? The stupidity at work here is the state or local authority that thinks having these clever little traps out there waiting for some unsuspecting victim is a safe and sane policy.
@morg52 Some states mark the bridge clearance many inches lower than they actually are because of snow clearance. If they lay 4 " of asphalt on the road the signs usually don't get changed for a while. Driving a truck is in 3D.

This is actually quite normal in the northern states. The overpass height is measured and displayed, then years from then road work is done such as laying down another layer of asphalt and the overpass height sign goes unchanged.

I have two million miles safe driving and this has happened to me more than once. This is the route that secretary that you got your directions from takes to work. Therefore that is the route she thinks you can fit a truck down. That and you can't just pull in to the nearest gas station to turn around. That and how far back did he turn onto that road? A mile or two back and he wouldn't see that bridge.

Car drivers drive a small vehicle not requiring too much brain power to operate, its pretty much point and shoot. Also 4 wheelers drive less than 10% of that of a truck driver, on average. That being said, the clearance did say 13'3".

@RandyDarkshade2 as a veteran truck driver, all state highway bridges, as well as over head lines are to be over 13 feet 6 inches, the height of a trailer, unless properly posted. I have been down roads that are not properly posted. As you can see in the video, the driver of the car knew that the bridge was not properly marked, and knew that the truck would get stuck, thats why he had the camera rolling. As for being hit on the rear, I have been rear-ended 3 times, one ending in a fatality.

@gordonincolorado There is no warning signs prior to the overpass. Municipalities should have low clearance signs if there is 14'5" or less with enough warning for drivers to detour. This is very poorly warned to the driver.

As a truck driver shit like this is our worst nightmare, unmarked bridges.... customers in the middle of butfuck nowhere, where this poster clearly comes from. Considering this was an unmarked bridge, this is an incredibly smart truck driver not being able to rely on a sign marking the height of the bridge, not knowing whether its a safe 13'6" or if its shorter, fantastic judgement on the part of the Truck driver. However I do hope the poster gets infront of my 87,450 pound rig someday....

I think you should re-name it smart truck driver. maybe he was in an unfamiliar area. He sees he's not going to make it and does the right thing by stopping to make sure. He then realizes, he has to back up to get out of there and there's a dumb ass on his tail staying fairly close to him and not acknowledging he's there by flashing your lights or honking the horn. The damage isn't allways just to the truck or trailer, it can also damage the structure that is being driven under. Why isn't there a sign with clearance marked? What state or country is this that allows underpasses to go unmarked with warnings? The stupidity at work here is the state or local authority that thinks having these clever little traps out there waiting for some unsuspecting victim is a safe and sane policy.

@morg52 Some states mark the bridge clearance many inches lower than they actually are because of snow clearance. If they lay 4 " of asphalt on the road the signs usually don't get changed for a while. Driving a truck is in 3D.

This is actually quite normal in the northern states. The overpass height is measured and displayed, then years from then road work is done such as laying down another layer of asphalt and the overpass height sign goes unchanged.

I have two million miles safe driving and this has happened to me more than once. This is the route that secretary that you got your directions from takes to work. Therefore that is the route she thinks you can fit a truck down. That and you can't just pull in to the nearest gas station to turn around. That and how far back did he turn onto that road? A mile or two back and he wouldn't see that bridge.

Car drivers drive a small vehicle not requiring too much brain power to operate, its pretty much point and shoot. Also 4 wheelers drive less than 10% of that of a truck driver, on average. That being said, the clearance did say 13'3".

You also need engineers to check that it is safe to remove the truck from the bridge, ya know, make sure it wont collapse? You obviously have no fucking idea about procedure do you. Shut the fuck up until you know what you're talking about. It may not be as easy as "just back the truck out" Bridge may have been weakened when it was hit, or damaged, reversing straight out could cause further damage.

@RandyDarkshade2 as a veteran truck driver, all state highway bridges, as well as over head lines are to be over 13 feet 6 inches, the height of a trailer, unless properly posted. I have been down roads that are not properly posted. As you can see in the video, the driver of the car knew that the bridge was not properly marked, and knew that the truck would get stuck, thats why he had the camera rolling. As for being hit on the rear, I have been rear-ended 3 times, one ending in a fatality.

The truck driver was making sure his truck can make it underneath . He is protecting his job. For most companies, striking and overpass with a truck results in automatic termination. Im an truck driver myself and Whoever posted this video has no knowlege about trucking!!!! And I HATE how truck drivers are criticized by people that has no knowledge about trucking. My company send me to "parts unknown" and there has been times when I had to block traffic for the safety of myself and others.

@liberalinthedesertaz No, he didn't hit it, the truck didn't shutter from an impact, their is no sudden, quick braking, their is no "crunch," No shown damage on the truck, and the Lights on the front top edge of the trailer are intact and lit.

@gordonincolorado There is no warning signs prior to the overpass. Municipalities should have low clearance signs if there is 14'5" or less with enough warning for drivers to detour. This is very poorly warned to the driver.
