  • A $5 Fox 40 whistle would be smaller, blow at 120 decibels (as loud as a car horn), and wouldn't need recharging like the AirZound.

  • Sure that may work but how long does it last, i mean how many blasts can you get from it before you have to throw it out??

  • AirZounds are rechargable by adding air. Fox 40's are simple hard plastic with no moving parts. They would both last a long time, but I expect the Fox40 would last longer, because it is one piece of simple, hard plastic.

  • So how do I mount it to my bicycle?

  • Dershnof: You keep referring to "it" and you are not clear whether you are referring to the AirZound, or a Fox 40 whistle. Just search for "Air Zound" for more information about it. A Fox 40 whistle would be worn around your neck on a strap, like a referee does.

  • Yeah I was talking about the fox40 whistle. It seems quite loud. You said it was what, 120 dB or something?

  • I think the main issue is usage - How would these be used during emergency braking/steering maneuvers? An air horn would probably be easier (shift your hand to the top of the handlebars and press) than a whistle (grab it under your neck and put it in your mouth), but both seem impractical when your main goal is to avoid an accident.
