I don't understand why Marlon Brando is thought to have been so great. He was the most believable in The Godfather (and damn good). His other (old) stuff just seems like phony old Hollywood crap and I can see him acting
His greatest in my mind was "On The Waterfront", second best being "The Wild One". His portrayal of Sky Masterson in "Guys and Dolls" showed the bredth of his talent. It's sad that he in fact lived a sad life throughout.
@downhill240 I agree, On the Waterfront was his best movie, best acting, best characterisation, Streetcar is a close second, as is the Wild One. I think his other movies are under-rated - I disagree with RogueRotting - just watch him in The Young Lions where he played a Nazi with a conscience, or in The Fugitive Kind where he gets out of jail and falls in love with a married older woman. I don't know if I agree that he was sad throughout his life though? Esp when he was older, ironically, fat.
I've thought for years that he would have been a great choice for superman when he was younger. He had the classic features, the build, and acting ability. He might have been a little short though, but over all he would have fit great imo. It's not just me, the producers of superman the 1978 movie thought so too, but because of his age, cast him as jor el, the father.
