I've been Urbexing for 20 years and I didn't even know there was a name for it! I've always had a connection with abandon buildings, theme parks, etc. I'd love to meet someone in my area to explore with.
Very interesting documentary. Our urbex group smash the places we visit. They are going to get demolished anyway. In your video you state this isn't urbex but it is actually part of the new wave urbex smash genre. Successive explorers will changes caused by the urbex smash groups. It's all part of the rich changing tapestry of dereliction.
@kenfagerdotcom Well I think it seems to be misunderstood by many people. We don't smash indiscriminately. We check out if the building is scheduled for demolition. This may involve studying planning proposals. For example in an old asylum the kitchens, corridors, boiler house may be scheduled for demo while admin,and the wards may become housing. Hence the corridors, kitchens etc can be smashed up as they are only going to be demo'd anyway. Other parts we only explore in the regular urbex way.
@kenfagerdotcom I want to point out the information in the video and your comment is wrong. New Wave Urbex smash is a UK Urbex movement. We both explore buildings and also smash up useless ones before the demo takes place. Check out the forum "28DaysAfter" which used by some New Wave Urbex smash crews.
@kenfagerdotcom Fair enough point, many people don't like any destruction aspect.
But lets be clear, Urbex as a whole is not harmless either. It causes costs such as setting off alarms, security call outs, wasting police time. Plus Urbexers also tackle things like climbing cranes, or exploring drains which can cause accidents, shutdowns, and safety issues. And people associated with urbex have also been known to take things from buildings.
@titanastic Thanks for your well tempered and valid comment.
A responsible urbexer should do adequate research on a location and take proper safety measures before visiting a location. A responsible urbexer should also not commit theft.
dude i just watched 'Wisconsin death trip' ....you need to see it. it's so much like your take on wisconsin...kinda funny, kinda sad. keep up the film work
nice. I used to do a little of this in santa fe about 15 yrs ago...we found one of the best places 'roof hopping' (because the buildings are so close) that was a house and lawn completely built in and abandoned inside feet of burgeoning life and on one side, an active church..
now that i'm in ny the roof and underground game is on a whole other level. lol, i got locked out on a roof in queens and had to enter/break into a weird factory and still repel out of a window with an electrical cable...
i live in wisconsin. i have only infiltrated one building though. an abandoned barn. it was pretty untouched, until they destroyed it and built a hotel :(
There's not much in La Crosse though, I've gotten into the storm drain and the shoe factory already, but that's about it, I'm more of an underground type.
@thegacyfanclub
I had a gut feeling about those 28 Days Later gobshites. Thanks for the comment!

Your "urbex smash genre" gives regular urbexers a bad name. What you do is not urbex nor a genre. It is vandalism.

I still disapprove of vandalism at urbex locations in any capacity.
