it doesnt matter how long the initial list was, thousands of loyal americans had their lives destroyed for being "communists" including people who had nothing to do with communist groups, or were simply involved in the black civil rights movement ect

McCarthy was authorized by the Establishment to go after domestic Communism to deflect attention away from the Establishment. It was only when he went after William Bundy (Skull and Bones) and Bundy's contributions to Alger Hiss' defense fund did McCarthy cross the line and had to be destroyed.
