The sounds captured from blank bullets are never the ones used in the final product. Blanks are used to capture the muzzle flare and then foley sound is used to make the sound effects. Trust me I'm at a film school in LA. Sound is always re-recorded for the final project.

The blanks are loud because the charges are real and the final sound in the movie will depend on whether the right sound was captured or not, which ultimately depends on the directors taste. If not, they will record the sound in a controlled environment for the desired effect.

@Jay943462237 real guns with real bullets wouldn't have that muzzle flash, only movie guns have the muzzle flash all the time so you know it's fake. They use special effects for the look that bullets are hitting like walls or the ground or they use caps

I was there when they filmed this (it was AWESOME by the way) but I was wondering, how do they do gun sound effects in movies? I always thought that they edited them in later but at the shoot, well, it sounded like they were shooting. We had to cover our ears and everything, it was really LOUD, but they can't be using live fire in an urban environment. Anyone know how they made the sound effects?
