you need to load vista on to the netbook for it to be a true comparison. I dont even think that netbook will work with only .5 gb ram as vista requires one i believe
Oh I agree completely, the Dell is much more responsive in its OS than the Aspire One, but the Aspire One is not built to be a speed demon, it is meant to surf the web and type notes. Also, I've been pretty unsatisfied with the Dell.. I've always been a Sony fan, and I am going to have to go back to a Vaio for my next laptop, Dells are too cheaply made and overpriced to be worth it (at least their top of the line model).
Comparing two different pieces of hardware running two different operating systems.
What is it that you think we should be learning from this? What is it that you think you were attempting to show? I'm going to have to agree with 'mobilephone2003' comments above. This is two minutes of my life I will never get back.
I did it because it is important that a small, portable netbook is fast to boot and shut down, and comparing it to a mainstream laptop seems the best way to do that.
I used the Logitech Quickcam Pro for notebooks, which is on sale at Amazon for $69.99 USD. The webcam on the Aspire One is alright, though it's only VGA, and the mic works, but I prefer using an external mic. That said, they both work well in a pinch.
I doubt it. The hard drive and BIOS of the Dell are not designed for instant on, while the One is. Also, the One can access files nearly instantaneously because of the SSD, while the hard drive in a normal laptop takes a while to spin around and move the head to find the data it's looking for. The One may have little RAM and a slow processor, but it is is designed to start up in seconds, and it does.

I suggest getting Windows 7 for it. Vista will bog it down.

after the boot up is completed, windows >>> vista, just because it doesn't accelarate faster doesn't mean it don't have more top speed!

Sorry, I was using the crappy mic on my webcam. Nice webcam, but I should have used a better mic.
Kev50027 3 years ago
Hi
It seems like the webcam is really nice. Which one is it? the mic is so so though, but alright.
What would be nice is if you could also test the webcam and the mic on the Acer One, don't you think?
Thank you.

It would be much more of a true comparison if the one had Vista.
The dell would probably smoke it if it had the same OS

Not to mention that most linux distros start up quicker than Vista even if the comp isn't designed like the One

Nice to see the SSD working like it should, boot in less than 20 secs.
The XPS is not bad either.
