@lamusicahera I do understand, especially at your age of 97, there have undoubtedly been many legends of the past you enjoyed. I, for myself, would also like to say BRAVA Leonie. We do have recordings of these legends and we should be very grateful for that. I think your statement about singers not being able to use correct placed voices nowadays is a bit too general. Leonie would have loved Eva-Maria performing Sieglinde with Clifton Forbis, I'm sure. Shame she isn't here anymore.

Westbroek's voice is unsteady. It's a wobble and no pitch center except at soft volumes. The jaw shakes. Either she's over singing or has an inadquate technique. On the Sat radio broadcast, she was unlistenable to me. You can 'infer' the pitch but rarely do you actually hear the pitch, especially the passagio and top. I miss the many large, stable voices of the past.
@johndlabella Well, maybe she can spend the next few months with you. She might learn how to sing. :) She cancelled all of her upcoming performances due to health issues affecting her voice. To be honest, she'd probably better see a doctor instead. Eva knows how to sing Sieglinde. The evidence is all over the place, also on YouTube.
@cantorandopera I don't really think so. It's great to have her remembered, but this isn't the perfect place, I guess. It's kind of disrespectful to the artist singing here. That's where the comment should be about, in my opinion. With all due respect for Leonie Rysanek. :)
The Redemption motiv Sieglinde sings before she runs off in Act 3 is one of the most gorgeous passages of music ever written. What a privilege it would be to sing it.
This was a great triumph for Westbroek and Kaufmann-- beautifully moving.

I love her actual sound here, but could do with a teensy bit less vib.

Ms. Westbroek was ill--she sang the first act of opening night and had to be replaced. She sang gloriously on the HD broadcast.

A big voice, and a big vibrato . . . I will hear her live next month . . . I wish I could have sung Sieglinde, her music is so gorgeous.
