Porsche always under rates their GT3's - The 997 3.6L gt3 supposedly makes only 415hp there are stock cars that dyno with 390+hp. Thats only like a 6% drivetrain loss. The GT3 RS 3.8 rated at 450hp dynos in the 420hp neighborhood.

i disagree the lambo has a better start up but once it reaches around 200 km/h it slows down accelerating alot. pretty much best test possible for the gt3. which is why porsche won and deserved to win in this test. i loe both brands and i'd probably still pick the lambo cause in a test of 0 to 250 the lambo would win.
Not really. The GT3 is super light. Consider this. The GT3 is ONLY a flat 6 no turbo. It's pretty freaking impressive regardless of the Lambo driver that a N/A 6 cylinder can beat a car with a V10 and much more horsepower. Porsche is king.

Both of these cars are sick, but the Porsche is just too light that's why it pulled away. The Lamborghini is stylish, but the owners don't seem to work on the Engines like Porsche owners. It is not just about horsepower, it is the way porsches utilize power, a 300 hp porsche can easily destroy a 350 hp sport car due to the fact that the porsche has a better way of using power due to engine position ( no long driveshaft coming from transmission) so there is no 20% lost in power like most other cars,lower weight,better aerodynamics and the list goes on.

When it comes down to it there isn't really one better than the other. Yes, one might be a little faster. the 911 is the benchmark for all sports cars, the reason porsche is so amazing is that it makes car for a specific demographic, and that is for people that want and can rely on a car that is the best of the best sports car. Lambo reaches people that like exculsivity, flashyness, and adds some good amount of power and handling but is no where near the best. This is why the porsche beats lambo.
GT3 will take the lamb. The turbo Porsche will take the lamb as well. Currently, there isn't one motorcar in the 911's class that will "leave it for dead".
The 997 stands no chance against the Gallardo on the track, there is enough proof for that. It may accelerate faster but handling is definitely worse.

There might be an updated list, so keep on finding it. But I've done my part to prove the GT3 can be faster than the Lambos and even the Z06 (as many suggested to be the faster one). The Nurburgring laptime is a true measure of a car's capability in speed, acceleration, agility, and road-mannerism as the track is very bumpy in most parts. But it doesn't matter which car is faster than which, because they're all great cars and I'd sell my kidneys for any one of them.
It is a pitty that one can`t put any url`s on youtube. Ok, go to the Sport Auto Online website and scroll down till you see a picture of a yellow Ferrari F430. There you can read Supertest-Liste ist online. Klick on that picture and you`ll see all the lap times from the supertests.
The 7:39 for the GT3 must be wrong, since the new GT3 RS lapped the Nürburgring in 7:48 in that magazine. It could have been a highly modified GT3 though.
The Z06 had a nearly identical time without semi slicks. With semi slicks, the Z06 is a faster car. It outperformed the GT3 RS on the Hockenheimring in Germanies Sport Auto magazine and managed to reach the same time on the Nürburgring, all with less downforce and without semi slicks. Give the Z06 a few tweaks here and there and it will eat the RS alive.
Rolling starts are tougher, and are more representative of actual performance. Virtually All cars will have faster (block) times when timed from a standing start.
The Lambo sports a 5 liter V10 with 500 bhp and weight in at 3152 lbs. The Porsche GT3 RS has a 3.6 liter flat 6 cylinder with a QUOTED 385 bhp when it fact is was found in Porsche Excellence magazine that the car was producing closer to about 400+ bhp give or take a couple. I believe the Porsche is just a better rounded car with suitable gear ratios and a superior power train. How else do you over come a deficit of 4 cylinders, 1.4 liters of displacement and about 100 horsepower?
Higher revs actually gives it more power (well in most cases, if the torqueband stays at about the same level and doesn't collaps), so that can't be the reason. I think veetarded is right that the better gear ratios and the superior power train gives it the advantage over the Gallardo.

I think lamborghini updated there gallardo last year or this year with 20 more bhp and shorter gearing........would be interesting to see how that equates to this sort of test.

ISnt that the old Model and still better acceleration then lambo. Those drag tests are always brainless cause its only about power and torque. The Porsche GT3 RS is build for the track and the gallardo would have absolutely no chance if there were some corners in that test :)

Well, for me its brainless cause you can use a metal frame and put a big block V8 into it and it will go straight. The Porsche wasnt made for going straight, you miss the point here.

A 100 HP 911 GT3RS or one with only one gear would not put good times on a racetrack either. Both acceleration and handling is of importance. These tests one of them.

Acceleration is straight line also reveals aerodynamic drag.....
even if a car has more power than the 2nd it isn't sure it will win at high speeds!

my point was that a veyron is 'the ultimate car' and that 'wee porsche' is able to beat it on a 'froper track'. plus, a 996 turbo has lapped it in around 7 minutes.. the lambo stands no chance. don't get me wrong though, lambos are beautiful cars and i'd buy one in a heart beat.

Look at a Formula 1, thats a 3.0 Liter engine!! Look at a Porsche Ruf RT12 which trails only to a Bugatti Veyron with only a 3.6 Liter engine!! Engineering my friend!

the 911 is the benchmark for all sports cars, the reason porsche is so amazing is that it makes car for a specific demographic, and that is for people that want and can rely on a car that is the best of the best sports car. Lambo reaches people that like exculsivity, flashyness, and adds some good amount of power and handling but is no where near the best. This is why the porsche beats lambo.

GT3 will take the lamb. The turbo Porsche will take the lamb as well. Currently, there isn't one motorcar in the 911's class that will "leave it for dead".

The 997 stands no chance against the Gallardo on the track, there is enough proof for that. It may accelerate faster but handling is definitely worse.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I meant the 997 Turbo. But even a GT3 RS can`t beat a Gallardo or a Gallardo Superleggera on the track. Just go to sportauto-online dot de and see for yourself. All is written in german though.

There might be an updated list, so keep on finding it. But I've done my part to prove the GT3 can be faster than the Lambos and even the Z06 (as many suggested to be the faster one). The Nurburgring laptime is a true measure of a car's capability in speed, acceleration, agility, and road-mannerism as the track is very bumpy in most parts. But it doesn't matter which car is faster than which, because they're all great cars and I'd sell my kidneys for any one of them.

It is a pitty that one can`t put any url`s on youtube. Ok, go to the Sport Auto Online website and scroll down till you see a picture of a yellow Ferrari F430. There you can read Supertest-Liste ist online. Klick on that picture and you`ll see all the lap times from the supertests.

The 7:39 for the GT3 must be wrong, since the new GT3 RS lapped the Nürburgring in 7:48 in that magazine. It could have been a highly modified GT3 though.

Actually, Lamborghini is German now, because it's owned by Audi and has Audi/VAG engineers all over the place in Sant'Agata.
Anyway, if that is a manual gearbox Gallardo it's doing damn good.
An E-gear Gallardo (let alone SE) would leave the 996 GT3 RS for dead.
But, the GT3 RS never was a drag racing car, it's a true RennSport car for curves.

The Z06 had a nearly identical time without semi slicks. With semi slicks, the Z06 is a faster car. It outperformed the GT3 RS on the Hockenheimring in Germanies Sport Auto magazine and managed to reach the same time on the Nürburgring, all with less downforce and without semi slicks. Give the Z06 a few tweaks here and there and it will eat the RS alive.

Rolling starts are tougher, and are more representative of actual performance. Virtually All cars will have faster (block) times when timed from a standing start.

The Lambo sports a 5 liter V10 with 500 bhp and weight in at 3152 lbs. The Porsche GT3 RS has a 3.6 liter flat 6 cylinder with a QUOTED 385 bhp when it fact is was found in Porsche Excellence magazine that the car was producing closer to about 400+ bhp give or take a couple. I believe the Porsche is just a better rounded car with suitable gear ratios and a superior power train. How else do you over come a deficit of 4 cylinders, 1.4 liters of displacement and about 100 horsepower?

how about with higher revs? Formula one cars have quite little engines but extremely high revs.

Higher revs actually gives it more power (well in most cases, if the torqueband stays at about the same level and doesn't collaps), so that can't be the reason. I think veetarded is right that the better gear ratios and the superior power train gives it the advantage over the Gallardo.
