Im finding it hard to believe Gino is nearly 60 years old. He looks fantastic. I cant see any tell tale signs of cosmetic surgery. His voice is as smooth as its always been. Wild Horses is one of my all time favourites. Bello Cantari Gino.
Thanxs for posting. I guess this vid is not from 2004 - should be 2000 or 2001 ???? The english title is " A word to my father" . Really amazing lyrics. God blessed Gino with an amazing voice !!!! And with an awful talent writing songs, composing music, arranging .... have for example a look at the lyrics of "Where am I going" . Gino must have been in his early twentieth when he wrote the lyrics! An amazing artist.
I'm saving this to my "Gino" playlist. His voice is so smooth and powerful like....MOZZARELLA. And some tender sweetness like TIRAMISU!!!! And powerful and robust like AMARETTO!!!!
I do know it was done at a Christmas concert for Pope John Paul 2, in Rome. I emailed RAI, which is an Italian TV network, and they emailed me to say that the Vatican owns the rights to this video, and at that time there was no DVD available.
PS - Some more trivia - This was performed live on St. Cecilia's feast day, and she is the patron saint of music and musicians. I subscribed to Italian language television when I heard this was coming on, but for some reason, it was not included in the stream meant for the US. RAI told me it was shown only in Europe. There may be a DVD for this now, and if there is, someone please let me know.
PPS - That is Nels Lan Doky on piano. He and Gino have done some amazing work together. Look for a CD called "Haitek Haiku" done under the Doky name - Gino's magic is all over it, and he sings and writes some stuff too.
PPS Ok last post for today. This song, sung by Gino is on the "Haitek Haiku" cd, and may be on other cd's as well, but on aforementioned cd, there is an English translation for the lyrics. Gino wrote it about his relationship with his own father, as I understand it. Bravo to Gino for singing this in Italian before an Italian audience and the Pope as well. Bravissimo Gino!!
Fantastic! What was the title? I could look for a copy on Ebay. I was trying to watch it live on subscription TV from Italy through DishNetwork, and they didn't carry it.
There is a documentary which was produced by the CBC. It is titled "Canto" It was dedicated in honor of Gino's father, Russ Vannelli, who at one time also was a singer. The documentary is awesome, I have a copy of it and have watched it many, many, times..
