I was at this game as well. A great game that was cheered on by a fantastic crowd. This was the best Gamecock team ever that would have had a National Championship with a better quarterback. I've got a book called "Saturday Shrines" that says that Clemson's "Death Valley" title was given to them by Presbyterian College Coach Lonnie McMillian in 1944 after his team lost a string of lopsided games there. It says that your stadium was a horseshoe shape until 1953 when the horseshoe was closed by building the south end zone seating. That's allegedly when the name "Death Valley" came to LSU. End of discussion.

I don't hate on Clemson's entrance. Both have elements of cool. The only downside to Clemson's is 1) Players could trip and fall (which has happened) and 2) Not as much anticipation is built up for Clemson's entrance like there is for USC's. You could've said 15 years ago that Clemson's has much more history. BUT, now that we've been doing 2001 for nearly 30 years, you can't really make that argument.
