so tragic..... so moving.... can you imagine hearing this song with your marriage failing and your career making show coming to an end. I would be crying.... but her song made for a magical cinematic moment.... oh lucille ball.... i dont think anyone will forget you or stop loving you, despite how you felt at the end of your career and the way people reacted to your work at the end. Fans will always love you lucille ball....
I would do anything to go back in time & change the past so they would stay married forever & worked it out. They should've stayed together & they wished they were together after & never got over each other. They were so much in love in 1940 til the rest of their lives. They could've got back together. They were married a long time. I read Vivian Vance was married to 2 of her husbands for 18 yrs is the longest she's been married.
This episode was the first time I ever heard a standard. I was ten years old, and from then on I was hooked. Thank you, I Love Lucy. They don't write songs like these anymore.
i read somewhere that she actually fake played. that she would act like she was playing. not sure if this is true though. i always believed she was playing the notes, so who knows?
lucy is a superb actress, but in this one scene you can see the devastation in her eyes, even though she was trying to hide it. lucy and desi breaking up, as crazy as it sounds, kind of felt like a close family member breaking up when it happened. watching this show you feel like they are a part of your life. I LOVE LUCY!!!
@th1smomentisfate yea it is sad. everytime i watch this scene its like u know they werent gettin along and it was over. the song was a perfect fit for the final episode
I think this is the only divorce that people have actually taken personal, I mean it actually HURTS to think of these 2 divorcing. Especially because they kept loving each other till the day they each died.
I sent my girl this link cause it's exactly how I feel at the moment. she doesn't feel secure about me and my career or empty pockets..she fears I will never be able to support her
Its depressing because the two main actors of the show had to sit there hearing about love, and the next day after this, they got a divorce... it is very depressing...
@weightfeather1 - to be precise, Kovac's died over a year and half after this episode was filmed. The episode was filmed on 3/2/1960, Ball filed for divorce the day after, and Kovacs died on 1/13/1962. Still sad circumstances for everyone though ...
Thank you so much for uploading this!!! I use to always search for this scene, but never could find it. Just getting to see everybody's ture personal expressions on the set and knowing it touched all the viewers hearts the same, as well. I knew Edie never recorded this. Somebody should have and/or should just release this on its own. This is so beautiful.
the aired that episode one time...i was lucky enough to catch it but i was too young to understand it was the serious finale and why it was so sad. one of my fav songs till this day.
It's too bad that you don't hear a lot of singing like this anymore...Michael Buble is about the only contemporary singer I can handle. That's why I listen to German and Russian pop music...there's still some legit singers in those languages. Good music is good music, no matter what the language.
Edie talked about this in interview. It was a song that was very special to her and Ernie, but she learned at the taping that it was probably the very worst choice for that episode, because by this time, Lucy and Desi were no longer speaking. Lucy filed for divorce the day after it wrapped. It was a very difficult shoot, and terribly sad. She said she looked around the room after finishing singing, and everyone was crying.

@funknastydarrling : In the book "The Other Side of Ethel Mertz", it was said that the cast and crew were just in absolute tears after this episode was filmed....Lucy filed for divorce the next day.
Several years ago I saw a documentary on 'Lucy" and Edie Adams was interviewed. She said that she picked this 'little number' without knowing that Lucy and Desi were on the brink of divorce. She found out about it on the news and was just shocked. R.I.P. Miss Adams.....we'll always give you love....
Edie Adams was one helluva broad: talented, gorgeous, and went through an awful lot with Ernie Kovacs' family troubles (his first divorce was a miserable one, with a mentally ill first wife who kidnapped his beloved children in the days before such a thing was really considered a crime). Edie also originated the role of Daisy Mae in LIL' ABNER on Broadway.
I try and I try and I TRY! ;,,,( can't hold back the tears. I love Lucy and Ricky and all it's cast. Today's shows and so called actors and actresses will never! B as great as they were. "That's all " is my favorite song. She sings it so wonderfully and romantically.
This is my favorite version of this song. One good reason is the dreamy, romantic look on Edie Adams. The way she sing these great lyrics always makes me cry.
Ethel Mertz with some nice jazz accompanyment piano there. I guess all the while she was suffering through a life dealing with Fred Mertz, she had some free moments to listen to all those great Bud Powell records. LOL!
@TodaysSweetkiss - Unfortunately, Edie Adams never cut an audio-only version of this song. This phenomenal performance was specifically for this last episode of the I Love Lucy series. It is special because it was so charged with meaning considering this was the end of the show and the marriage of Desi and Lucy. It was also special too for Ernie Kovacs and Edie Adams, because a few years later, Kovacs died in a tragic car accident.
@theFriendlyHughes I remember one warm day that I'd just gotten up and was listening to the news--it was announced that Lucy had passed away. The med. procedure didn't work, I almost cried.
Wow Edie sings so beautifully....I love the way Ernie looks at her as she sings. What a wonderful couple...truly made for each other..i only wish things had worked out the same for Desi and Lucy. What a great era in television history, with true talent. Things today are just not the same.....
when you know the backstory of what was going on at the time between Lucy and Desi, this song is just so beautiful yet so heartbreaking. I don't know about you, but this scene makes me all emotional lol

@SoUrTheWolfGrrrl There is. You can even compile your own favorites on your computer or mobile smart phone.I have. Pick a song or an artist that you like and similar music and/or artist will be played! And yes btw isn't that a sweet melancholy song?
@SoUrTheWolfGrrrl You'd be surprised, but there is. You have to find it, though. Check out Darren Criss, you might know him from Glee, which could make you think he's not worth being listened to. However, he's a brilliant musician, did a cover of this song when he was just playing in bars, and his choice of songs are just marvelous (The Temptations, Sinatra, among others), and he has a couple of original songs that are pretty good for a 21st century dude! I hope you'll actually search for him :)
I'm only 24 and I find myself wanting to turn the radio off with all of the music you hear nowadays. I wish there were more voices like hers today.. I absolutely love this.. on top of the fact that she's gorgeous...
It was sad that RIGHT after this episode was over.... Lucy divorced Ricky.... :( Dezie (i think that's how you spelled it) wanted to make things right, lil Ricky begged him to fix it. but it was too late...
Philip Morris did NOT sponsor the hour-long episode this appeared in, 'tripjet' [they discontinued their sponsorship of "I LOVE LUCY" after the 1954-'55 season]. This originally aired as the April 1, 1960 edition of "THE WESTINGHOUSE LUCILLE BALL-DESI ARNAZ SHOW" (later repeated on CBS and in syndication as "THE LUCY-DESI COMEDY HOUR"). But Lucy and Desi WERE heavy smokers, and lit up, no matter what sponsor sustained them...that's why both of them eventually died from cancer.
THE SONG IS BEAUTIFUL BUT PAINFUL FOR LUCY AND DESI THEY WERE DIVORCING AND IF YOU LOOK AT LUCY YOU CAN SEE THE PAIN IN HER FACE. I THINK THEY ALWAYS LOVED EACH OTHER EVEN AFTER THEIR DIVORCE.
One of the most long sought after video episodes where this beautiful singer sang for I Love Lucy Show when it repeated itself so many times before youtube and we only had three channels. Many listened to this singer and we all knew we were looking at a star on the rising .That's All ,now has been song so many times now by different singers male and female that Edie Adams remains the best version.
@tripjet999 , Phillip Morris only sponsored the first four seasons, the last five (including this episode) were sponsored by other companies, including General Foods, Ford Motors and Westinghouse. This episode was sponsored by Westinghouse.
@tripjet999 , Phillip Morris only sponsored the first four seasons. In the middle of the fourth season, Phillip Morris shared sponsorship with Procter and Gamble. After the fourth season, Phillip Morris was no longer a sponsor. The fifth and sixth seasons were sponsored by P&G and General Foods, with Ford Motor Company joining late in the sixth season. The seventh season as sponsored by Ford exclusively, and the eighth and ninth seasons were sponsored by Westinghouse exclusively.
Vivian Vance never got a long with William Frawley i guess from what i heard is that the 2 of them always fought and that both William Frawley and Desi Arnaz both were heavy drinkers, but Lucille Ball went on to do her own shows such as the Lucy Show and Heres Lucy, the Lucy Show had Vivan Vance in it she played herself but she was cast as Lucy's sister
I just heard this nice song sung at a funeral and it was incredibly touching and summed up the person's life perfectly. Nat King Cole penned this timeless masterpiece.
What year was this?

@crystalelaineq I'd support any sponsors that would sponsor music like this on the radio today!

I'm sure that when Poor Ernie Kovacs was killed in that car crash in the winter of
1962.That this song ment more to Edie Adams.

I've always loved Miss Adams and her rendition of "That's All" is just beautiful. Thanks for posting this.

Sad that the merchants of death (Philip Morris) were allowed to sponser this or anything else.

@tripjet999 - I agree. :o( But I guess back then they might not have known the implications of smoking and considered it cool.

@MelodyOfVision
they at Phillip Morris knew
I heard from an lucy historian that Phillip Morris asked her NOT to smoke when she was pregnant with Desi Jr.

@tripjet999 , Phillip Morris only sponsored the first four seasons, the last five (including this episode) were sponsored by other companies, including General Foods, Ford Motors and Westinghouse. This episode was sponsored by Westinghouse.

@tripjet999 yeah, now the advertisers just push chemicals and fat laden foods. The costs of obesity have surpassed those of tobacco related diseases.

Lucy doesn't seem to happy in this scene.
She's was one tough lady.
I think she would have stay married to Desi all their lives if he hadn't been such a scoundrel.

TV at it's finest, the classic days are behind us, but at least we can re-live them. Wonderful voice, wonderful sitcom.(Lucille and Desi R.I.P.)

I just heard this nice song sung at a funeral and it was incredibly touching and summed up the person's life perfectly. Nat King Cole penned this timeless masterpiece.
