I think if anyone looked at historical armor IRL you'll find that the ornamental gear usually has the spikes or crazy eagles on the shoulders, and the stuff that made to be hit are mostly smooth surfaces and angles meant to deflect strikes away from the neck and other 'sensitive' areas.. But yeah, just a game.
