  • Moving to 3.5 soon. Finally. Played Pathfinder, it was great, but it seems too much like a 3.5 rip-off. It seems like they added little to no originality to their core rules. Except maybe gods. Also played 4e, great for starting, but I prefer more depth and danger. Its good to find a happy medium. Not too simple, nor too complicated. Also Ander, any good 3.5 books I should check out other than core? Core seems pretty playable unlike some editions. *glares at 4e corebooks* Broken crap....

  • @XBurntBProductionsX Yes, Pathfinder has a lot of problems, way too high powered. I agree with the lack of originality. Yes, I'd recommend the book of vile darkness & the book of madness (I did reviews on both of them). The Warrior, Arcane & Mage are all good books too.

  • I just bought D&D Wrath Of Arshadalon, well worth the money to buy. Best game ive played in my life.

  • @12345gavin12345 Glad you are enjoying it. What is it about it that makes you feel it is the best game ever?

  • @woodwwad I mainly like it because of the strategy to the game. You have to have strategy to win it, you cant just go around killing grells and orcs randomly. Personally i like games that take strategy to beat it

  • @12345gavin12345 What sort of strategy do you need to use in the game?

  • @woodwwad Idk about other games but in Arshardalon you need to attack and get rid of creatures that leave poison and dazed. If your playing with 2 people, 1 long range and 1 short range. 3 people, 1 archer or 2 wiht 1 or 2 short range. If 4 well you know the drill. But with those tactics ive never lost 1 game of DnD

  • I can just tell from the way you explain the game that you're very passionate about D&D. The descriptions and scenes that you threw in as example are great to set the tone of the D&D world for new players. I've got a lot to learn and thanks for making the video!

  • @ModernDnD I certainly am. I'm a ferocious defender of our hobby. It is the greatest in the world. I have loads of other vids on D&D & RPG in general. Check them out and get involved in the RPG community here. We'd love to have you.

Great user name by the way.

  • @woodwwad Thanks! I'm hoping to make some videos to introduce new players to the game as well with my channel. I'll definitely check out your other videos soon!

  • @ModernDnD Sounds good brother

  • @woodwwad Hahaha. It'd be sister in this case!

  • @ModernDnD I knew one day that'd come back on me. I just checked out your first vid, well done. Looking forward to hearing some more. Once you get a few up, I'll give you a channel plug, get you a few more subs.

  • @woodwwad Thanks for the vote of confident. My videos are a bit rough right now, but I'll keep on improving thanks to you guys in the D&D community.

  • @ModernDnD Oh no, you are doing a very good job for you first videos. You seem like you'll be a great addition to the community, by the way I've just sent you a PM/

  • Ander, do you have any ideas for character background for a chaotic neutral Dwarven barbarian? I talked with someone the other day and they used to have a dwarf barbarian, and there story was, in short, their dwarf basically came back from who knows where and found his village slaughtered and in ruin, and basically went insane. I like this concept but would hate to reuse this. He also had a dwarf wizard that had a quite interesting background story.

  • @XBurntBProductionsX You could always make a battle rager.

  • @woodwwad me and a few friends are starting a d&d group. none of us has ever played before. do you have any advice?

  • @TehFlyingGerman Sure, I have loads of advise. I have a lot of videos on tips for players that will be of huge help to you on your road to beginning rpgs. They are a difficult hobby, that involves much learning.

  • Does this go with pathfinders to some one pls message me or reply cause me and my friends wanna strt playin d&d and pathfinders but we dnt know how

  • @ipownyoyoma Absolutely, what do you need to know? I can walk you through every. Always glad to have new people in the hobby. I've done videos that explain just about everything you could want to know from basic to highly advanced rp.

  • A wise man.

  • @CyberPhysician thanks, glad you found it useful.

  • dungeons and dragons is the best game ever and no game will ever compare to it

  • @Mrmorgancross Glad you like it.

  • so say if u dont want to be the characters that are provided like Elfs or Durfs can u be a character from a movie or show? LIke i want to be Scar from TLK. Can i do that? You should play Skyrim! Its a beast!

  • @legendarywerewolf206 Not sure who Scar is, so I couldn't tell you for sure. But you can play just about anything you'd like as long as the DM is fine with it.

  • @woodwwad OMG You dont know who Scar is? The beast Disney villan of all time!!!! He was the one who killed Mufasa in TLK!

  • @legendarywerewolf206 I do know that character, I figured you were talking about someone else. My son watches Lion King all the time, it's his favorite movie.

What do you mean playing a character like that? Do you mean evil?

  • @woodwwad i ment best not beast lol

  • i have that batman toy behind you!

  • @zeroskater41 the batcave playset?

  • Thanks man really helped :)

  • @SuperPortalcake sure brother, glad to hear it. I have loads of RPG tips vid, feel free to poke around, thanks.

  • it comes out 11/11/11. wow thats hard to rember lol. XD. by the way did you know you can use the xenomorph race in a D&D game? There also called ALIENS so i dont confuse you lol.

  • @legendarywerewolf206 I don't think I've seen d20 stats for them. Which book is that in?

  • @woodwwad You can use them for any campaign I think. I saw a layout of the entire xenomorph race on a D&D website on google.com. There for encounters and not used for a regular person you can play as.

  • @legendarywerewolf206 yes, I could see them not being much for pcs for sure. I thought there might have been a d20 book set with the alien worlds from when you mentioned it. I take it, these are simply fan made?

  • @woodwwad i do believe so for i havent seen any models for them. =)

  • can't wait for Elder Scrolls: Skyrim! xD

  • @legendarywerewolf206 when does that come out?

  • i can see how the DM's role is tough i would love to do it to test my writing skills. its something else because the characters are real breathing people trapped in your world and you have to lead them along there path without making it seem predetermined and i think that is the most intriguing thing in any table top RPG

  • @Lordoftheflame1000 Something else you'll want to do there is create multiple choices, not simply one path. It should be more like a very complicated choose your own adventure story than a novel. But as a writer myself, I can tell you it is a great work out for the creative brain.

  • its all about team work logic and strategy...how is that nerdy?

  • @scotchtapeinasia Where are you getting nerdy from? In no way would I consider rpgs nerdy. I actually did a vid on that.

  • @woodwwad well i thought i saw pplz in comments call it nerdy and people ive talked to about it. i wasn't saying it was. It was the exact opposite. i think it is anything but nerdy

  • @scotchtapeinasia right on, I thought from you first comment you were saying I'd called it nerdy. Yes, you are right, it certainly isn't a trip through the collective imagination is awesome if done well. I did a vid titled Is Gaming Geeky, you might want to check that one out. It goes into my thoughts on what we are talking about here.

  • People think D&D is nerdy but I don't see it.

  • @lolllol395 Not nerdy at all. I talk about that line of thinking in my is gaming geeky video. D&D or RPGs in general are a great hobby that keeps the mind sharp.

  • masterful job, this really is what it is all about. I like your take a lot, this is a great vid for anyone wondering what D&D really is & how to play it.

  • @OwlbearJack thank you very much, I really appreciate it.

  • I've looked at all the vids under this title on youtube & this is by far the best. I love how you present it as a role-playing game. Even though I can tell you are trying to be professional, your passion really shows & this is the way D&D show be. 10/10 vid

  • @NordtheBarbarian Wow, thank you very much for saying that. Really appreciate the kind words. I do hope this vid, makes this topic easy for anyone interested in it to understand.

  • Great video

  • @Diablo9964 oh, thanks. I hope you get some views from the video responses

  • @woodwwad if I do I do if I don't I don't you know.

  • @Diablo9964 well, it is a good way to get your vids & thus your channel more views which mean more folks will be interacting with you.

  • @woodwwad That true

  • Quit looking at your screen and look at your camera.

  • WHAT!!! NO YELLING!!! TRASH!!!!!

    Awesome vid man!

  • @Zarion13 Thanks brother. Yeah, I tend to yell a lot. I tired to make this one Mom, friendly.

  • You did such a good job with this. The should hire you to write the next edition. This is a much better description than the book gives for sure.

  • @QuinnSilver I think so too ;)

    thanks

  • excellent vid! more please more d&d haha

  • @jayboyhoot360 thank you very much, I think I have about 120 D&D vids on my channel, it is mainly what I'm talking about. Is there something specific you'd like to hear about?

    thanks for the comment :)

  • Great coverage for anyone who might not know. I still encounter a lot of people who don't really understand what this is all about.

  • @RobertJFreemantle yeah, I have the thrift store finds vids, so I get a lot of non-gamers on my channel & I get asked a lot by people to explain D&D, figured this would be a good way to do it easily. & I know there are lot of people out there that are interested in learning rpgs, so hopefully it'll be a good gateway vid.

  • solid description of the game, personally I'm not sure if I would include anything more in the basic description of the game. So thumbs up for you

  • @Tschenggo Thank you very much, I always appreciate the likes. It took a while to make this vid, I wanted it to be fairly short while covering all the bases. I'm glad it came across like that to you, thanks.

  • @woodwwad I think you covered all the basis very well, and I'm usually quite critical. Only thing that would come to my mind after rethinking would be making the video a general intro into RPG, as all RPG need dice, books and at least 2 players, so the basics keep the same. But I guess that's a story to be told another time :). Keep it up man.

  • @Tschenggo I'd thought about that, but decided that would be counter intuitive, as if people don't know what role-playing is, they wouldn't look up what is role-playing but if they knew the words D&D, they'd look that up. But I did think about that.

  • @woodwwad makes sense

  • Nice intro video to D&D

  • @Samwise7RPG thanks

  • Nice job man. Clear and simple for the person who hasn't played before as you titled it and not bogged down with rules.

People always ask me about the dice first and some how attribute the ""role" in role-playing as "roll".That is usualythe first thing I have to make them understand. Sure ther can be dice rolls but its the creative energies of the players and gmae master that make the story.

Glad you did this, I was thinking about this after reading Dropkickwarlocks post on how he gotinto games

  • @masterofflowers Yeah, this is the most requested vid I've had, so I went ahead & put it up. I was a little worried it would get any views but this is the first time I've checked it & it is at 93 views, with 17 likes which is cool. Some tools hit it was 2 dislikes right off the bat but I'm glad too see the real community stepped up with the love.

  • My favorite part of this one is that it wasn't "Here's how to play D&D. Get your miniatures and battlegrid..."

Instead it was "The DM brings out the drama, the violence, and the horrah."

That's truly how D&D (or any RPG) is played.

  • @Onionkid99 Lol, you know I sat & planned this video for about 25 minutes & reshot it about 7 times & this is the first time that minis & a battlegrid even crossed my mind. That's where my head is for rpgs, I honestly didn't think to exclude it, it just apparently isn't at all important to me. I wanted to get across why rpgs are cool & it's the character, stories & worlds, not the rules.

Thanks for the support as always brother.

  • That was a good insistence and reminder of what we need & what we roll. What we truly need is the imagination and creativity to embody our thoughts.

Good on you. Great pleasure to play with you tonight it this wonderful multiverse, in Planescape, with the good lord clackclickbang officiating as GM.

It is a beautiful experience when a game goes beyond all of those that are participating. Nice one, Ander. Privilege to play with you

  • @23penguins32 My pleasure to play with you, as the bag of goo.

I've been getting loads of questions from various people, including those here for my thrift store finds to explain D&D to them. I've done it about 40 times, so I figure it would be quicker to just put a vid up.

  • dude you pause to much in your sentences.

  • @takethysoul

    ...?

    Really?

Like really really? Ander is the man, get out of here.

  • @tewalker13 Thanks brother, that's nice of you to say.

  • @takethysoul This vid might have been a little different, I'm trying to be a bit mom friendly & remember everything I'd planned to say as this vid wasn't for my usual audience. My "voice" is a good bit different than this in most of my vids, so check one of those out, if this is the first you've watched.

  • @takethysoul You're an asshole. Ander has the best channel on youtube.
