  • Thanks for the info guys.. I get that these were all handmade and that there were a limited amount of them. I'm just saying with all the technology we have today why can't Gibson recreate these exactly?? Maybe I'm just over analyzing this. Score one for hard work, sweat and Skill!!

  • @sngncwby They could replicate it ! Their just to money hungry and selfish to do it .

  • @thenewgdfos Its not because their selfish... But if they recreated all of them, it would make the finish and guitar not as special and one of a kind, but instead make it more available to everyone.

  • @jacobskwarcan I wasn't talking about them re-creating a certain vintage/popular 59 LP. I meant they are to selfish and money hungry to take the extra time and $ to make current LP's with the same specs & TLC like they did in the 50's

  • @thenewgdfos i misinterpreted you, sorry.... And i agree with you completely

  • @thenewgdfos

Not sure how many R9'S you have played or other custom shop models, but of you find the right one they are without a doubt just as good. Of course you aren't going to get the same quality on a USA standard because you aren't paying the big bucks!

  • @sngncwby there are many reasons these can never be duplicated, eg. the hand wired pickups by old ladies and their techniques, in the factories, the rooms of which were laden with all kinds of toxic glues, etc would never be legal now (in US anyway), the wood in the world is different now. That's why those old 1930s and 40s acoustic Gibsons are such mindblowers - the wood was different at that time.

  • @socrates1818 right on the money..nothing now comes close

  • Sounds great even with the sizzly audio. You can tell it's a good one with lots of character.

  • What I dont understand, its been over 50 years since these guitars were made... Why cant Gibson recreate the same guitar??? What makes this so special?

  • @sngncwby the more you play a guitar, and the older the wood gets, makes em sound so good.

  • @sngncwby You have to remember that only a limited amount of 59's were made (About 2000 or so, maybe less). It's also due to the fact that the craftmanship on 59's were very good. The tone on those things is amazing. It's pretty much a collector's item too. It's a mystery tbh.

On a side note, legendary guitar players own 59's, which would probably add to the value of those things.

  • Holy crap! your site is the best vintage gibson guitar site i've seen, especially when it comes to prices! well done.

  • fairly famous?

  • @zepled112 Joe's 1st burst is a plaintop ... that's the one you've seen in quite a few vids ... he's had that one for a year or so ... this one he just acquired last month ... nice to have a choice of bursts to use for any given gig, eh ??!! He earned 'em ... lotsa dues paying gigging the last 20+ years.

  • i agree with you hawkeye62158, you are spot on, im 64 years old and am a lifelong gibson fan and this is the worst sounding one ive ever heard, the best one ive heard is the one gary moor uses in the video still got the blues for you, this is just my personal opinion of course fo0r what its worth.

  • i hate to break it to some o' y'all, but that's what bursts with original paf's sound like, for the most part.

    think telecaster with more everything.

  • It acquired the SkinnerBurst nickname after it's well publicized sale a few years ago by Skinner auction house in Boston ... they're like Christies, Sotheby etc ... prior to that just a personal player ... now, gonna get its frets played off by Joe Bonamassa ! Speaking of frets, they're pretty worn out & it'll be interesting to see if JB has 'em replaced ...

  • @illgiveitrightback2u

i´ve just watched the great flood solo played in this guitar... believe me. he did

  • Why is it called a Skinner burst?

  • looks great, but sounds horrible!

  • Dude... DON'T wear the guitar that high!

  • Wayyy too much treble!! Still great sound, what it's price?

  • Now owned by Joe Bonamassa !

  • @washit1st no that one has too figured of a top his is very plain

  • @zepled112 He bought a plain top first then this one second and now he has a 1960 Les Paul witha Bigsby trem on it.

  • Wow, what a guitar! It sounds almost nasal, like it has a cold. Maybe too much tone or treble. How much?

  • Sounds AMAZING

  • I'll trade you my Gothic SG for it, but I'd need an additional $25 on top of it. That and I'd insist on the original case and having those pickups replaced with Dimarzio Super Distortions....

  • This one was recorded with the mic on the camera.....we have since switched to using a Shure SM57.

  • way too trebly..., and that break up is a bit overkill,. but i cant tell if its from camera or amp.

  • that bridge tone is DIRTY....awesome, thanks for posting

  • that 59 is incredible! nice! cool post!

  • Very handsome. Nice guitar, too.

  • Holy Crap !! Your website shows this on hold ... please do a revisit with this before it goes away !! Please & thanks !!

  • oh yeah, says at the end.... :)

  • agreed.. great video - thanks!

i read somewhere that the burst is being played through a Trainwreck (clone?) is that right?
