This is the rough mix done on June 20, 1968 that is a mixdown of the tape loops done live with all three studios at Abbey Road being used simultaneously with the spoken phases by John & George ("financial imbalance", "the watusi", etc.) recorded during this session included. The Revolution take 20 coda is not heard here, and the ending football crowd chants from a sound effects record were added June 21 during a final overdub session ending with with two stereo mixes of Revolution 9 being made
June 25th saw the final edit of stereo mix 2 (RS2) from 9:05 down to 8:12 for the final master- the conversation that precedes the piano intro is a separate tape added for the album release. So in effect this a complete version of the main body of the song without the Revolution 1 coda mixed in, thus there's much here that isn't heard in the released version because it was either edited out or buried by additional overdubs
I have heard snippets of an interview with Lennon in which he talks about in detail the process of making R9 but I haven't been able to find the whole interview. Anyone know anything about that?
Revolution 9 shows John's sense of song structure better than any of the 'usual' songs. Avant-garde is usually boring as all hell, but this isn't. It keeps the listener's attention - brilliant!
Wow...and like....wow. This is the first time I've heard a TRUE alternative mix for "Revolution 9." 5:17 to 6:00 is REALLY intense. And note how it just stops at the end right before the Take 20 of "Revolution 1" splice takes place (i.e. Yoko saying "You'll become naked" and all that).
@tiranchula Yeah, it used to sacare me, too. When the whole, "Paul is dead" thing was in full swing in the early `70's, my brother & I had been moved up to the attic and when I'd go to bed at night I would be okay going up to the second floor, but, for some reason, I got the strange idea that Paul was going to come up behind me, ala Norman Bates, from my parents' bedroom and try to stab me with a huge knife if I didn't get to the 3rd floor as quick as possible! So, I'd RUN up those stairs!
This is the darkest, most frightening thing the Beatles ever did, hands down!!! However, I think the one that was officially released on the white album was far more coherent! This is "electronica" way before electronica became an art form or went digital! Extremely innovative!
Please tell me:how many have listened thru all the ¤ 9 track?I have not .not til this day---Because it is pretentious .trying to be alternate-It´s not John or Yoko but them pretending to be what they never were---namely pretentious. Please listen to John Lennos first Album...And Paul´s too...And George´s Triple. That´s Music without pretending,in simplicity...Take this brother and may it serve you well is what Ringo says in the end-and Thank you- and I mean it.
I wonder what THIS version sounds like backwards....

This used to scare the **** out of me when I was a little one..... But I would stay there, in front of my brother's stereo and listen to it anyway!

The worst track the Beatles ever recorded. Even the best band in the world makes one mistake I guess.

@zacandtaylorrule Only a person who enjoys Hanson would misunderstand the genius of "Revolution 9".
