  • OMG its so amazing... she plays so perfekt... i'm more than impressed! good job

  • I think it's really cool that she moves that way when she plays. :) It looks like a dance.

  • 0:22 HOW DID SHE GET HER BASS CLARINET TO SOUND SO CRISP!!?!?

  • Eu gostei, sou apaixonada por Clarinete, toco a pouco tempo mais tenho um bom tempo que venho gostando de música!!!!

Os solos são perfeitos, eles tocam super bem.

  • La Clarinette dans tous ses emois .

  • I loved the solo in the beginning.. But she moved around a'LIL too much.(: moving is okay, just not soo much. Haha.(:

  • i love how the mandolin player gets so into it. haha rock on mandolin guy!! :)

  • great clarinet playing, excellent, awesome mandolin!

  • Bravo ! Well done, and thanks.

  • Just beautiful and haunting - thxs for a great post - straight to my FB page!

  • wat type of clarinet is at 2:50

  • @thebigcheese123789 Alto clarinet, tuned in e flat. He has the solo at 3:18

  • BRAVO!!!

  • @Ibocaner

Moving with losing the embrouchure is indeed not good.

But if you move a 'bit' and keep your embrouchure the same. So move your body and head/arms parallel. Al problems solved :).

    {I also always 'move' when I play. The one sitting next to me in the orchestra really looks weird at me when I do so and tries to act like me...}

  • יאללה אחד הטובים!!!

בתזמורת שלנו אנחנו גם ניגנו את זה!!!

  • Ottima interpretazione bravissimi

  • absolutely brilliant

  • wonderful!!!

  • The camera person is driving me crazy !!

  • I've heard this piece by so many different instrumentations. Nothing is as good as what Bartok originally came up with, but it's always fun to listen. Love the low notes on clarinet!

  • So good I can't tell which instument is the best. All are superb!!! Really special. THANKS to all musicians of the 'gang'...

    ;-) Post more!

  • one of the best versions i've heard yet

  • lindo... uno de smoking, otro de traje, dos de camisa, las chicas sin mangas.... Creo que la vestimenta también cuenta para una buena impresión.

  • wonderfull,

    thanks for the clarinets

  • Very nice transcription and well played!

  • Superb!!!!5***********************

  • Playing and arrangement is wonderful; camera work terrible--can't imagine why camera person couldn't figure out who is playing solo so much of the time!

  • I would like to know what mouthpiece the soloist is playing on. AND what kind of bass that is....

  • its an alto :)

  • Not when Moran Katz solos.

  • great sound!

  • Honk @ 0:23

  • ahahah i love how she moves while she plays. you cant really help it. u just get into the music.

  • 绝对的,风格,民族的世界的

  • wow i love the playing! I'm really picky about my clarinets and this was stellar ;)

  • Wow, the whole Gang is damn Good...Love it..!!

  • She is superb on that clarinet...beautiful...

  • amazing tone on all of them

  • Wow, that clarinetist is really getting into it.

  • i play the clarinet ok, i'd rather be better, like veryone in the video. i've tried the mandolin. i just love it when played like that. what kinds of clarinets are being played?

  • Beautiful sound of Bass Clarinet~~

  • The older girl with the Black hair is so damm sexy. and I like the way she plays the instrument too. lol

  • oh i love the bango ish guitar in klezmer music. Makes my day :D haha

  • its chamber music guys, sit a bit closer together next time.Nice job btw

  • i like it, i play the clarinet, been playing4 2 yrs. now

  • i love this suite so much

heard violin, but this one is very cool too

  • WONDERFUL!

I'm gonna do this with my klezmer band. Thanks

    Bill Averbach - Austin Klezmorim

  • Aye.Stop dancing.

  • clarinets rock!!!!!

  • stop dancing in ur chair let the music speak for itself.

  • Stop looking, and let your ears hear.

  • Tell it to Jacqueline du Pres

  • This is the kind of video that makes me proud to play bass clarinet!

  • tökjó:)))

  • I love it xD

  • Really loved it! All instruments sounded great and worked well together. Especially the mandolin gave it a more folklore feel which I really enjoyed.

  • BRAVO!!!!

    SO NICE

My band is practicing this song now

  • great !

  • Bravissimi!!!

    Molti Complimenti da

    QUARTETTO ITALIANO DI CLARINETTI.

    Ciao!

  • One of the most fabulous interpretations. Not overplayed, not pathetic, but swift and full of energy. Who would've thought mandolin fits so well with this?

  • you are great

  • you are great dudes

  • Great - enjoyed the video!!!

  • Bravo pour la qualité de l'arrangement! Très original, et l'interprétation est bien dans le style de Bartok (ce qui est rare!).

  • Very good. And, the movement is not only permissible but helpful for conducting purposes. I would agree. I would say that physical involvement in this music adds more than it detracts.

  • The woman in the white shirt that was playing the clarinet was like friggin freaking out. She kept bouncing to the left and the right or she would lift the clarinet. I play the clarinet and I'm not THAT proffesional but I'm in High School and my music teacher always said never lift the clarinet or the tune would not sound right.

  • Look at the 2nd page of comments for an explanation of why she's moving around so much.

  • I have dents under my jaw from all the times my music teacher shot his fingers under my chin whenever he saw me play too low or too high.

    45 Degree angles!

Course, the girl in the white shirt is still better than me.

  • That is true, but if you notice she moves her whole upper body, so I imagine it isn't as band as just swinging your instrument around haha besides, you could do some serious damage to your clarinet doing that, or even the person next to you. At least by moving so much of your upper body, you give the person next to you warning that they may be hit!

  • Thanks for telling me. But I MUST MUST say this. I am OBSESSED with this song. It just satisfies me. The Clarinet is so wonderful.

The reason in fact why I chose to play Clarinet was because it has a PURE sound.

Also I like it because it's tone is so mystical.

  • Try being in a marching band!

  • No, that's not Sharon Kam. My mistake. Either way they're talented.

  • The weaving musician is Sharon Kam, she's an eminent clarinetist in Europe. I am so excited, today I found the sheet music to this. The clarinet transcription sound sooo much better than the violin.

  • Please what is the title of the piece and did you get it on the internet?

  • Bartok's Romanian Folk Dances transcribed from the violin/piano. On one of the free music sheet sites they have the piece for a clarinet quintet. The mandolin really adds to the piece though. The transcribed piece I have asks for three Bb clarinets, a bass clarinet and an Alto clarinet. So this piece is slightly different.

You may want to try contacting the group's manager and asking about it.

  • Many thanks for the info. It's my most played piece on YouTube

  • This is ridiculous. The ensemble clearly knows the piece and is being affected by the movement by the clarinet.

  • it's a bass clarinet mozart

  • Excelent!!A+++

A klezmer wedding("quartet de llevant":Look it please. It will not defraud you)Thanks

  • If I tried to play the clarinet like that, they'd have to call 911 to have it removed from my eye.

  • I'm really suprised she can play so well while bouncing around but I don't think she's the conductor..

  • omfg stop freakin bouncin around when ur playin ur freakin clarinet

  • Go bass clarinet!

  • OK, the final answer to why she's moving a lot: she's conducting the rest of the group. Notice that there's no conductor up front, waving a baton to keep everybody together. The first section of this piece has tempo fluctuations (rubato); the time isn't rigid and consistent.

  • Since there's no conductor, someone within the group, and most logically the person who is playing the leading melody (that would be her), has to indicate the tempo changes to the other players.

  • For a good example of this process, check out 1:08 to 1:23 - she is clearly making eye contact with the other musicians, and using the up and down movement of her clarinet as her "baton".

  • Very beautifully played. I enjoyed seeing the players move as they played, that showed emotion in the performance.

  • that guy using a crystal mouthpiece?

  • yes, they're typically used in folk/jazz/klezmer music.

  • that was the rudest thing ever! i play clarinet too and when u r into the music ur playing, u start to dance and u cant help it.

  • Besides, if you sit perfectly still you look like an idiot. One of the worlds best clarinetists, Martin Fröst, litteraly dances around one the scene when he's playing.

  • never heard this arr. before! very nice! Bravo everybody!

Michal looks super hot in that shirt.

  • Actually, when a musician moves too much (as is the case with the performer in the white shirt) it can be distracting in a live performance. Moving is good, and great, because it does show emotion and musicality, but excess movement prevents a stable embouchure and is distracting for the audience.

  • @graceofbass distracting? it makes it more entertaining imagine a rock concert if all of them just stood still? would be boring as hell movement is key

  • @AntonioPistola You're right, movement is important, especially as a soloist. But when you are in a small ensemble and you are the ONLY person moving as much as you are, it is definitely distracting in a classical recital performance setting.

  • @graceofbass In general I agree with you, but do you not think maybe she's trying to lead the ensemble? They haven't got a conductor, so it's almost like she's the first violin in a string quartet in terms of her role.

  • @friendant72 Having been the leader in a clarinet quartet before you're right, movement is relation to keeping the beat is important, but I would say that her movements are not helpful in keeping the group together and were intended for expression.

  • @graceofbass

She looks absolutely nice while playing the clarinet. Classical musicians look very often like stone sculptures on stage.

I prefer her a million times.

  • @graceofbass I agree, its a little strange really.

  • Bartok's a modern composer--that is from the Modern period 1870's-1920's.

I love the Bass clarinet. The woman in white should play Jazz.

  • wow they're really good!

  • The lady plays really well, that's what I think. I don't think it really matters whether she moves a lot or not. She gives the music somehow more expression...

  • Es precioso

  • yowza. all my fave insturments! ha

I play clarinet and bass clarinet!

    WHOoP WHOoP

  • you ever seen a double contrabass flute?

Its like a bass clarinet, but a flute =D

  • Thats sounds wicked!

    i'll GoOgLe it! ;-]

  • Whats the range of a bass clarinet? :)

  • Uh, well I don't know that...You've stumped me... but then again I only chose to take on Bass C. so I could always be 1st chair and not have to worry about try outs for Jazz Band, since I AM the only one (It is pretty cool to sit by the cutest guy in band though;-])

But I'm sure you could look it up. ;-]

I'm just a stinky 7th grade chick. Ha

  • Haha ahha. I see..yeah I think i've found it. Im a 6th former! We're doing instrumentation at the moment..and I was like TALULA470 WILL KNOW haha

  • The playing range of a bass clarinet is shown on its Wikipedia article.

  • Yeah, I think I could've done that myself :-]

You should check out my math project vid its rad, not really its really bad quality, ugh

    Later!

  • It depends on the model. A professional bass clarinet's lowest note is a C, and a student model's is Eb (in written pitch). A college bass clarinet has a 4-octave range starting with the Bb (csounding pitch) below the bass staff and goes up to the Bb above the treble staff. Which means that the bass clarinet is awesome :)

  • wow, this was really good!! now i wanna play the clarinet again!

  • Somebody (me) grab that string bass and join in!

  • This movie sounds like its from the Renisonts

  • Renaissance.

  • that one lady move a WHOLE BUNCH when she plays if i did that i would get slapped by the person next to me

  • She probably is moving so much because she is giving cues in the music. Or she is just really into it =)

  • Holy crap. They are really really good.

  • that was really good

  • wow that was crazy good

  • someones tied fishing wire to her elbows can't you see...

  • I was a very impressive, movement of the girl was superfluous, but the performance all around was excellent...

  • OMG is that a crystal mouthpiece? I m sooooooooooooooooo jealous.

oh yeh n btw very gud sound

  • how does that work?

  • how dus wot work?

  • Cool.

The next concerto I do will be for Klezmer bass clarinet. It will be finished in the Fall of 2008 for a Spring 2009 performance. Please check out my video "A Lonely Moment Wakens" on YouTube.

  • Well you certainly can't move around like that with a bass clarinet.

  • Is that bass clarinet an eb bass clarinet, becuase it looks much larger than the one I play at school.

  • no its a Bb bass clarinet, its just a low c bass clarinet. This means the lowest note is a C instead of an Eb. (So the bass clarinet has the same range as the bassoon).

  • the lady in the white shirt certainly moves around but her great playing makes up for it.

  • Not only does she sound amazing, she's HOT!

  • wow that lady in the white shirt was moving so much it was nausiating

  • And I thought the only controversy in the art of clarinet playing was whether or not to use vibrato... My own position is vibrato - No (generally) and some movement - Yes. However, it really does depend on the overall effect ultimately.

By the way, if you feel you really must leave negative, even insulting, commentary, then at least take time to spell your words correctly. The word I think you meant to write is "nauseating" - N-A-U-S-E-A-T-ING.

  • If it sounds good, I don't care if she tap dances while she plays. So she moves a lot, get over it people.

  • Aye. Sounds amazing, all you have to do is shut your eyes.

  • Its more useful in klezmer so shes probably acustomed to it. Sounds fine though.

  • love the bass clarinet (i play it) i heard it too =]=] yay it sounds pretty go bass!! woohoo!!

  • i cant really move when you play contrabassoon(i play contrabassoon)

  • I have no problem with moving when playing Clarinet.

    I've played for 7 years.

But I must admit that she does move around an AWFUL lot.

  • i move around when i play i'm sure anyone here who plays an instrment does too!

  • The moving around is fine - proof that you'regetting "into" the music. It looks more weird for a flute player to move around, than for other instruments. Nice playing.

  • well lorryxX when i play the bass clarinet i cant move because its big and standing on the ground but yea moving is ok when i play clarinet (not bass haha adn guitar actually) i move around sometimes =]=]

  • You should use a neckstrap when you get the itch to have fun and dance while playing bass clarinet. I do that at football games, and I have the most fun dancing and playing. XD

  • I can't say I do..

  • im fine if ppl move to the music when they play a instrument but she moves like dramatically

  • but overall her sound is good

  • no...i dont.

    i play clarinet. for 4 years. and....yeah, i dont't :P

  • Lol 4 years is like nothing.

    I move around.

I rather watch someone be into the music rather than sitting or standing like a rock.

  • yeah, i never said 4 yeas was a lot :)

its just distracting when your watching and listening to it! :)

but im just saying that i rather not watch someone move around that much ;)

  • Sweeet.

  • Very good

  • wow. this is amazing.

    keep up the good work.

  • two of my favorite instruments.

    clarinet and mandolin

  • that is a natural fit

  • Reminds me of The Godfather.

  • im pretty sick of pepole complaining about musicians moving around with the music. what the big deal?

  • Same here. Moving is a way of expressing yourself.

  • wonderful

  • Haha, this video made me LOL.

  • great..

  • Klezmerising!

  • wowee dats kwl

  • oh

I do believe I may have misread your comment, or maybe not

this is my poor sleep-deprived brain speaking

  • Fine, then I guess the guy next to her should whip out his balls and juggle them while he plays.

  • That would be perverted...

She's just very absorbed in the music and, as you've said, a bit of a ham :p

  • MUSICAL WARRIORS!!!XD LMAO

  • the young lady's bodily movements are very distracting and have very little to do with playing with feeling. this is a terrible habit and she should tone it down.

  • She can play it however she likes.. the sound is what matters.

  • wrong, she is a HAM
