"..because if the world comes to an end, I know they're (The Wall Street Journal) gonna have a story on it. On page six." Rooney has a scense of humor (or does he mean it)! Thanx fur sharin'! 5 thumbs up!
I like Rooney for the most part, but I would prefer it if he stuck to less complicated, sensitive, and confusing topics. I'd rather hear him rant about something that he actually does understand, which actually is straightforward, and won't fluctuate as much as a market. He has a lot of knowledge and wisdom, but it's difficult to address such complicated events in such a short time with so little time to prepare. Talk about Crocs or something like that.
I would trust Rooney's opinion on the current economic mess. Yes it is a complete mess and Bush can be blamed for most of the mess due to his hate of regulation. Yes, unemployment might rise to 10% or even 13% in worst case scenarios.
BUT, that is nothing compared to the 25% unemployment in the Great Depression which lasted for almost 15 years and required a World War to end it through military spending.
Yes we are in a mess, but hang in there. This will be over in 2 years, not 15.
Andy Rooney should do a rant about how ridiculous it is that a newsman can keep his job on a news program by filling his entire segment with a rant about how he doesn't understand what's happening in the news.

Once again Andy tells it like it is, he has this so called recession pegged, it's a trumped up recession, all bull, looks like Foolsaeon below has no clue or humor, but thats they type that vote for the garbage we have in office, what can ya do, what can ya do.....
"I don't think we are in a depression or even in a recession". and "it is not Bushes fault...". Well I just cannot agree with these statements. First, even if the official economic data don't support the definition of a recession, I believe that the average person experiences it as a recession and very soon as a depression. In fact, I believe that the government will try to inflate their way out of this mess and by doing so will face hyperinflation which will lead into a hyperinflat. depression.
With regards to Bush. He might mot be soley responsible for the economic desaster since Greenspan kept these interest rates for way to long to low. But an important factor for this the huge debt that significantly increased by WAR spending. And we all know who is responsible for that.
A depression means bread lines and unemployment in the 20% marks. This is not a depression. More like a severe recession which is still much better than a true depression which has not occurred since the 1920s-1930s.
If you measure unemployment today in the same manner as it was measured during the depression, it would be 16% right now.
American's are floating by through maxing out their credit cards and home equity lines of credit. How much longer do you think that's going to work? How much longer will foreign investors and central banks keep supporting debt that they know we can't possibly pay back?
We might not be in a depression now, but you just give it a year or so and see how you feel then.
the old fart is finally going to retire at age 92
