  • fantastic piece of work

  • I shot my first short film (32 minutes, It's on my YouTube Channel) thinking about "A Scene at The Sea" and "Dolls". "Dolls" made me appreciate every hug and every little touch a boy and a girl have through the film. I made my first film under heavy influence from Kitano's two films dedicated to love, not Yakuza societies. I took a lot from Kitano, adding my own: I wanted my characters to talk rarely. And whey they talk, they talk quietly, because words are not important. Actions are.

  • Kitano is not an artist.... Kitano is a kind of art...

  • que bonitoo <3

  • I watched this movie on Comcast OnDemand randomly when I was home sick from school. I cried until my cheeks were rubbed raw.

I had no idea Hisaishi did the soundtrack for it.

  • I got recommended this video.

    Oh my this looks amazing.

  • This is my favorite film...it's been years since I watched it and I've seen hundreds of films since then but nothing compares to this.

  • @bluejezebel17

    Try Kim Ki-Duk's "3-Iron" - watch?v=g3k08nDoHb8

  • @Ander01SE

    boring orientalism

  • anyone know anything about the piano playing? what song or who is playing?

  • @sekretsofmynd Its by the composer Joe Hisaishi. If you have seen any films by Miyazaki, the music is probably his.

  • wat does jilted mean ?

  • @darkviolet101 suddenly left

  • at 1:15 you see a face in his neck

  • Just saw it Sunday night. So compelling--not many words are said, which confused me in the start of the movie, but as i kept watching it, you learn that words aren't even needed. The facial expressions, the body language, the scenery. It's all so vivid and pretty much is what makes this movie such a tear jerker. That and the concepts that revolve around the 3 stories. Kitano is a genius. Just wished that we had half the, orginality, smarts, and beauty in American films as they do in Japan.

  • はっきり言ってここまでくると気持ち悪い

  • dude i love this movie. and i cant find my copy! FML !!!!!!! i wanna watch this so bad. it beautiful and sad , and kind of boring but i love it.

  • I love it movie so much!

  • This movie made no sense to me. I kept getting the impression that it was all in sawako's imagination, and that matsumoto isn't really there. But then I heard that it was just a story meant to serenade true love.

  • But isn't important if was all in sawako's imagination or not.

  • the trailers for his movies have no dialogue. are his movies like that too?

  • Watch them.

  • uno de mis directores favoritos, me encantan sus peliculas, tienen un mensaje muy claro, te mete en las tramas y los actores te hacen sentir cada historia....haaaaaa....

  • I can only agree with Ghibli: the most beautiful movie I ve seen so far!

    melancholic, poetic, sad.

  • I can only agree with Ghibli: the most beautiful movie I ve seen so far!

    melancholic, poetic, sad.

  • B e a u t i f u l .

  • Kitano is Kami.

  • Why Kitano should be Kami? Can not understand the point.

  • He probably meant to say that Kitano is God as God translates to Kami, though when referring to God himself, you're supposed to say Kami-sama

  • @Quadraxis

Thanks. It´s true in fact. Kitano is supreme in his art...

  • i am just curious but...why they are,like,chained together?

  • because he doesn't want to sepparate from her, watch the film and you'll understand :)

  • This trailer does not do the film justice. The best photography I ve seen in a film

  • one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen.

    ありがとうございました Mr. Kitano!

  • Beautiful film. One of Takeshi's greatest film :)

  • Comment removed

  • great, i hope to watch it soon

  • It's a sad story.

But it makes me warm inside.

    I don't know why... :(

    And the music...!

    Pure beauty...!!

  • -ThaBauce

I don't think every works of art like this should be

    the same as academic writings...

    They shouldn't be.

  • @Mizerablism That must have been a troll post. It talks about a "movie" with a "scene ripped from departed", which came out 9 years after Tambour. Go figure...

  • looks like a action flick!!!

  • un film magnifique. je suis sortie tellement boulversé de la salle. il m'a vraiment.

  • What a beautiful movie, like all Kitano's movies.

  • Takeshi Kitano's movies are different, unique which makes them better than others...But sadly,I think they aren't made for the masses. Not everyone can understand and value them for what they really are-a form of art...

  • @rabgiamadeus Not sadly. Naturelly these films are not made for masses.

  • @rabgiamadeus you make it sounds pretentious

  • ♥

  • i just can't understand why masses don't value this movie? Because they don't want to bother with art? Because they can't understand what pure love should be? this movie is damn insane. It's the best movie about love i have ever seen.

  • 北野映画の最高傑作。

  • the best film by Kitano, he's always said this film is the most violent made by him, and it's true....

  • love this film so much

  • Probably his better movie (with Hanna Bi, of course). One of the best directors of the current cinema.

  • This film is sooooo beautiful. It is simply stunning film. I loved every part of it and brought tears to my eyes. I recommend all of you watch this film if you are looking for a true LOVE movie.

  • Simply STUNNING.

Is there a better ending than this?

  • Kitano is a genius!

  • SpecTACULAR movie! WOW! This is what Japanese filmmaking is all about!!

ALSO, you should see Taboo (known as "Gohatto" in Japanese).

  • i love the background music! does anyone know where i can find it?

  • . . . ojala estuvieras aqui...

  • i've the collectors edition :D i love this film.

  • This film was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, I didn't expect it to be so moving! Worth watching!

  • this is one of the mostheart breaking films I've ever seen. It's so sad...and totally worth watching

  • The scenery in that trailer was BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Masterpiece!!!

  • Gostei do filme, e do "Ma me mi mo mu mu" também!

  • i love it!some scenes are the most beautiful things you could ever imagine

  • I want to see it vety much!!

  • Amazing film. Sad, but wonderful.

  • love it.

  • omg! i saw this forever ago! i didnt see the whole thing but i loved the parts i did see. the part with the girl and her fiance on the rope confused me. why were they tied together?

  • Her fiancee accidentally led to her receiving brain damage, and so she became mentally unstable. He decided to accept the blame for this and become her carer - the cord is an unnaturally long Japanese 'obi' (the regular one is used to bind a kimono, the longer one was used traditionally to bind lovers on the day of their marriage).

He ties this between them, thus spritually linking the two. She is unable to express her feelings, yet for some inexplicable reason she wants to keep walking.

  • ほとんど海外の方のレビュー。菅野美穂の無垢という美しさは海外の方にも分かってもらえただろうか?

  • I love Dolls and I made a montage of my fav part of the movie to a sad & gorgeous Donna Summer song, "Autumn Changes". thanks. /watch?v=skBlTcIFjQw

  • this is the sweetest, most touching trailer i've ever seen. i saw the movie and it was beautiful.

  • agree 100 %. The ones who saw this incredibly beautiful movie will all agree this trailer is just perfect.

  • This movie made me cry like a little bitch

  • um dos filmes mais bonitos que eu já vi,apesar de mto triste, vale muito a pena assistir,a fotografia é lindissima tbm^^

  • such a pretty trailer

  • WTF!!!

  • Takeshi Kitano defined this movie as its most violent one... and I agree. Superb performance of the beautiful and angelic Miho Kanno, superb the natural landscape with cherry trees, the red maples and the wrapping music of Jo Hisaishi.

  • This was such a bitter-sweet, yet beautiful movie. If you are going to watch it, watch it by yourself, I tihnk you'll appriciate it better that way.

  • Movies ar made for being watched by a single person at time. No one talks. No distractions.

Every single movie by Kitano is a masterpiece.

  • *are

  • i haven't watched any of his films besides zatoichi yet but.. this looks amazing

  • Kitanos best work. Very, very beautiful, art.

  • this movie is one of my favourites of all time! it's almost indescribable, hard to put in words what i felt when i first saw it...and i still watch it whenever i can.

  • I finally got to see it and it was one of the most beautiful movies i've ever seen

  • I'm so curious about this movie, I'll get it on dvd in a couple of days and I can't wait to see it! The trailer already seems beautiful =)

  • My favorite movie. Truly wonderful.

  • I love this film... Very sad, beautiful... Sublime!

  • tutti bene.grazie.

  • the best movie

  • one of the most painfully beautiful films i've ever seen...maybe even more so than "hana-bi", which is definitely up there. this is like "a woman under the influence" by john cassavetes in the sense that it's at once one of my favourite movies, and also not something i'll be able to make myself watch again for a while. it's an emotionally draining experience, but well worth it. joe hisaishi's music and kitano's films fit together so well, it's a shame they don't collaborate anymore.

  • Oh no....no...no....No...no....did not like this at all. Perhaps it was too artsy for me, and I love deep movies. But I also like the use of language in movies to convey emotion and this does not have this. No...oh no. I watched this trailer and then got a copy to watch. No....not for me. But I can see how it could be a masterpiece for people who like this genre.

  • The greatest masterpiece from a true genius.

Can`t tell you how much I admire this man and his work. Shame he only has one book translated into English so far though.Anyone know where I can get a print of his `suicide` painting as shown in `HanaBi`?

  • this is kitano's best work. Even better than hana bi

    though i love both ^^

  • This movie is exactly why Asian film is better than anything else, soo deep with meaning and you better have a box of tissue...i cried. (a lot). The song at the end of the movie played with the piano is so sad. i think its a minor key melody, I really love this movie.

  • I can only agree! :)

  • where would one find this movie to watch?

  • the best i can suggest is to just buy it. i got mine at borders for about 20 bucks.

  • Maravilloso....

  • One of the best movie ever made...

when i've watched on the first time, i'll cry for over 2 hours...

  • wonderful, excellent way of explanation of love

  • Esta película es terriblemente hermosa!!!!!!!!-México

  • Wow! That was so nice! Takeshi Kitano rocks!

  • beautiful but very tragic

  • Miho Kanno is always beautiful

  • wow i never seen the movie like i wanted to but this totlay made me understand wats happening in it thanks

  • I wonder what the name of this piano song is?

is it by joe hisaishi? becuase i can not seem to find it.

  • I think this music is for the trailer only.

  • No, i actually found it already, and I got the sheet music as well. Im so happy!! It's called "feel".

  • Ok, but is it actually in the movie? I dont remember I heard it...

  • dolls - a masterpiece!

  • I almost cried. It was a good movie, I wasn't expecting to see something quite like it, but once I started I couldn't stop watching. It's a movie that you just have to sit at home and watch by yourself. I can't see myself watching a movie like this with someone else, it would seem wrong. It's just something that you need utter silence after viewing, time to absorb it all in.

  • I couldn't agree with you more.

  • I saw this in the theater...it was painfully boring

  • it's really not the kind of movie you bring popcorn and soda to. i can understand not enjoying it at a theater. you really have to watch it when it's just you.

  • This was cool

  • Hana-Bi and Dolls are my favorites Kitano's movies, Takeshi is definitely my favorite director.

  • Best movie ever.

  • i'd have to say it's top five myself.

  • I love this film so much. Everything about it is just brilliantly flawless.

  • realy nice movie

  • this film is perfection!

  • you need to see the movie first!! then if u see this trailer you will understand everything...

this is another exelent work from takeshi!

    another japanese master!! =)

  • -tragic -poetic -funny -striking; just beautiful! kitanos recent works hana bi, kikujiro and dolls are beyond- words. c em!

and zatoichi is not so bad, either

  • A beautiful film. Thanks for sharing.

  • An amazing movie. Takeshi Kitano shows once again that he is more than just a brilliant actor.

  • Silently movie...Marvelous...

  • I personally thought it was too short.

  • Okay, yeah the movie was pretty.

But it lasted a good 30 minutes too long.

  • One of the most beautiful movies ever...

    (But the trailer is boring...)

  • That doesnt make much sense...
