@luno44 actually, I don't think this is a case of british vs american english. "singing at" is different from "singing to" someone. "singing at" would imply that the singing doesn't carry any direct message, meaning or sentiment to the listener - it's just a load of noise that the "singer" is making at the listener. Whereas "singing to" someone means the song is meant for them and has some direct meaning or message, like a mother singing a lullaby to a child.

@grandcharm - I've heard the phrase "talking at" someone....and it means...yeah like someone is talking and they are totally oblivious as to your response. Or whether you have any interest whatsoever in what they're saying. They just like the sound of their own voice. And I took "singing at" to mean something very like that.

I love Oslow!!...hes the perfect blend of Archie Bunker and Al Bundy..Sorry if that comment to some tastlessly calls me out on being American..Richard is my favorite character though, him or Liz...or maybe it is Onslow, the whole cast. Thats what makes a good comedy, character development. Good characters is the key to longevity and success it seems.
