  • that whip sounds startled me, resulting in me dropping a bowl of pasta on my foot :(

  • This is awesome.

  • This is one of the best videos for a song I have ever seen in my life. Many thanks for making it and amazing job.

  • great work man

  • This video is really quite extraordinarily beautiful and powerful. It was a quite a lengthy distraction from my psychology homework, but well worth the break.

I particularly liked the stark contrast between the dark, bleak, sinister looking urban landscape and wild, effervescent, bright freedom represented by the pastoral habitat. The shots of the sky were perfect (I love the sky, and am forever gazing at clouds.) & v fitting given the name of the musicians used. Provocative questions posed. <3

  • words?!

  • I used to live in the Kootenays in BC Canada a little north of Montana. We share a lot of the same kind of land you know, and I must say that your vid of this wonderful area to this divine track completely grasps the comfort and extreme bliss that can be found in such awesome places. To me it defined the warmth that can be found in solitude and nature; and the sublime coexistence we share.

Well done sir, my hat off to u.

  • queste canzoni bisognerebbe ascoltarle di notte sdraiati in un campo sotto il cielo stellato, tutto ad occhi chiusi. oppure col sole che ti picchia in faccia e un venticello fresco che smuove i capelli. magnifico.

  • грибы?? круто!!!!!!))))

  • In a lot of EPIS songs the drums are orgasmic.

  • dude... 2:11 really got to me. (this video + explosions in the sky = 5/5 hands down)

  • 15 People have not passed through this night

  • STUPID lol JK no really kinda cheesy

  • It reminds me my solitude :/, that's not good... I feel kind of sick about it... but well, it is what it is, what's left.

  • Such a beautiful state...

  • Beautiful!

  • sounds like buddy geraghtys voice from friday night lights

  • @KilloDel This song sounds very much like Arab Strap. With the general talking through it.Nice song though they also sound like Mogwai. And I do not care who does not agree with me on it.

  • thirteen people are musically retarded lol

  • Man, I don't often enjoy these homemade music videos, but wow man, you really have an eye for this stuff. The editing, the scenes, everything perfectly portrays what I would think a music video for this should look like.

I think it's because EitS fan's just... understand the nature of beauty in nothing, that there still is beauty. Life when looked at, at it's very simplest, very nothingness, still contains so much beauty.

    Great job man.

  • cant wait to see them live. easily one of the best bands of all time.

  • Does anyone else make videos like this or know what program can be used to make them? Also, how do I get the video clips on my computer from a movie? Please send me a private message if you know, I want to start making videos like this with a lot of Post-rock music. Thanks

  • @1:06 ... beautiful shot, I can feel the sunlight ... « Robbing us of life and light »

  • This is great. Explosions In The Sky is like telling you stories.

Everyone could read his own story out of these songs. And you were one of them, who told their own.

But it's very impressive that everyone have a part of nature in their story.

And well, you are also a part of nature by yourself. EITS couldn't tell us better.

  • This should definitely play during the apocalypse.

  • firs time suck second time its souds better 3time its realy good 4time its super 5 time i love it !

  • Absolutely amazing video, one of the best user made music videos I've seen on youtube. Good work man.

  • some really beautiful shots here. great job bud.

  • you did an awesome job.

  • I would call this epic, but words don't do this music justice.

  • Never knew Unkle's release of this track was really just a remix.

  • @dcplus14 Unkle does have a track with the same name, but it's not a remix of EIS. It's actually a remix of their own song, Eye For an Eye, which uses the same Thin Red Line sample.

  • @Chris654x Oh that's a sample, I didn't even know this much...nice!

  • Words cannot express how much I love this. It is dark and lovely.

  • 3:00 to 3:20 is awesome man. maybe because i'm a drummer, who knows, but it's awesome.

  • I am amazed.

Words can not express the feeling this give the listener.

  • thumbs up if 1:37 made you shit bricks

  • @520mrcoke Used too, then realised I knew every time where it was going in after the 9000th listen. I fucking love this band.

  • just marvellous...

  • this song is amazing it helps me calm down and think about the prophacy im going though, i also love the energy it gives off.

  • I loved your interpretation. It is very nice to watch your movie, specially because I made MY interpretation of this song, that you can find in my channel. Thanks for sharing!

  • The thin red line (1998) ... spectacular song for a spectacular film

  • @eliasbwick wus your FB?

  • @drzip1993 Mate i listen to 2pac and what not but everybody has there own individual music

  • I teared up.

  • Genial!

  • at 5.30 did you get that idea from the film gadiator? it looks identicle

  • @themasterplan1213

Haha, good catch. Yes, that shot was an homage to Maximus's hallucinations in the film. It's one of my favorite shots from Gladiator, but I felt like it worked in the context of what's going on this video as well.

  • @Chris654x my favourite shot from the film aswell and brilliant video by the way

  • @themasterplan1213 identicle like a tenticle?

  • @pjordan11111 eh what?

  • seriously how the hell can you not like this??

  • very good, love the video, love the song, the band, great editing, great gob!

  • is this darkness in you, too?

have you passed through this night?

  • a wonderful video for a wonderful music!!

  • i almost think "A Poor Man's Memory" would be better suited for the first half of this video.

But a good job none the less.

  • probably my favorite song

  • Part of me thinks "A Poor Man's Memory" would be better suited for the first half of this video. Or maybe the whole thing.

Good Job on the video though.

  • this is a work of art.

    i love everything about it.

    you've chosen the right song.

    the right building.

    everything.

    keep them coming! :)

what city is this by the way?

  • what camera are you using?

  • Nice took video

  • awesome video - well done. makes me happy and sad. thanks for upload

  • Does anyone else picture Sam from Lord of the Rings during the dialogue?

  • @flyboy4692 it's dialogue from the thin red line

  • @aeversa Yea, but I just picture Sam because it sounds so much like it.

  • @flyboy4692 It's from a thin red line. Awesome movie

  • Love this song, 1:36 never fails to make me jump when I'm listening to it in my car.

  • i got some good news today.

im sitting here listening to this and the rain outside of my window, it couldnt be more beautiful.

  • Omg that gunshot noise thing at 1:36 scared the crap out of me.

  • Wow. This is great. Wow.

  • 2:23 is such a nice shot <3

  • This great evil - where's it come from?

How'd it steal into the world?

What seed, what root did it grow from?

    Who's doing this?

Who's killing us, robbing us of life and light, mocking us with the sight of what we mighta known?

Does our ruin benefit the earth, aid the grass to grow and the sun to shine?

Is this darkness in you, too?

Have you passed through this night?

  • have you passed through this night?

  • Great video, finding ways to make Montana seem lively!

  • I almost cried :( it was that beautiful

  • this is how i always imagined sunsets, when listening to EITS

  • 5:13 looks awesome

  • 2:14 - 2:50 is bliss, whilst the rest of the song is still ok, feel it's a shame the tranquil section is ruined by some other parts/moods of the song like the whip-crack early on and the hard-rock sound later on.

  • @Ghbose They're gunshots from the scene of the movie that the dialogue comes from, The Thin Red Line. They're not whipcracks.

  • I feel all mankind, me included, when i listen to this and remember i love every single person on earth, but still a bit pity and sadness. Then that question shines in my head, who is killing us?

  • Really enjoyed this video. Good job and keep it up!

  • @shnil Thanks for the input, really appreciate it. The speeding effect was pretty simple: Lens was fully open (don't remember the stop, whatever the max on GL2s are), let it run for some 15 minutes, and then sped it up in post. The blurring was an effect in Premiere 2.0, though I don't remember which.

  • this is fucking genius.. congratulations

  • dude this is sweet great job man

  • Have you been through any cinematography schooling, or is this just all raw, natural talent? Either way, this is a gorgeous, masterfully crafted piece of art and it is definitely something to be quite proud of. Fantastic job. I highly recommend you make more videos like this one.

  • You did a great job with a great song and even better movie....even better book lol.

  • ... is that thin red line in the background?

  • Really nice video, I like it a lot. Still be happy you weren't caught speeding ;).

  • beautiful song + perfect shots = 7:35 of something which cant be explained by words ;)

  • i would invest in a tripod, otherwise very well put together. good job

  • @jwingblues Thank you. The handheld portions were a stylistic choice. I had several tripods at the time this was made, and there's actually quite a few locked-down shots. I absolutely understand some people not agreeing with the choice, but it was done intentionally.

  • @Chris654x Excellent video. I really enjoyed both the scenery and the music. Thank you :)

  • Dude he totally has Christian Bale features...

  • Beautiful. I'm very impressed.

  • very 'into the wild'

  • This is a great video. =]

  • I love the song, and the video. Nice work man.

  • 4:27 it looks like the clouds spell out up. like the disney movie.

    great video.

  • where is this shot?

  • Troy, MT

  • the best post rock song ever.after the third minute comes the guitar orgasm \m/

  • amazing! good job, very inspiring :)

  • Beautiful

  • You are a beautiful boy :)

  • Haha, if you're referring to the actor in the video, that's not me. But I'll pass it along, I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

  • I love this video.. It never gets old to me.

  • Comment removed

  • This is really great.

I like the use of eeriness during the night time scenes in the town, and the scenic clips mixed in with the wildlife was so atmospheric. Again, great job

  • great vid man

  • Just awesome!

  • 6:11 wow.. that's awesome

  • really great video! really like this song! does anybody know if there's a version without that guy speaking in the begging?

  • I love the speaking part, personally. This whole song is great.

  • no ass wipe

  • Your town is beautiful.

  • this video is well made. great job man. really good stuff.

  • Not one of Explosions in the Sky's best sounds but definitely worth the listen. The video is pretty amazing.

  • Well done, well done!

  • your video is really great, it fits very well with the music, and Whoa your place is so beautiful

  • so these lyrics are from the war movie trhe thin red line? but they are part of the original song, is this the orgianl video

  • The dialogue is taken from The Thin Red Line, and Explosions in the Sky sampled it for this song.

And no, there is no original video. This is a fan made video, completely unaffiliated with the band.

  • beautiful video!

you did a great job, dude!

  • are the vocals by you?

  • No, the voice at the beginning is part of the original song, and is a sample of dialogue taken from The Thin Red Line.

  • they are by explosions in the sky.

  • So Great & Epic.

  • the best post rock song i ever heard.fuckkiiing amazing guitars \m/

  • Beautiful in the most sublime sense. You should be very, very proud of this. You know what you're doing with that camera, lol.

  • @AntidoteY

And you, what are you doing by puting a "lol" at the end of you sentence...?

Without this useless word used like a 12 years old child, your comment was great...

Anyway... This song sounds really good. Very good job. The drums part is also interesting

  • i ve been lookin for some info connected with montana for some time now coz i totally love all the landscapes and stuff and when i realized there is a vid of my favo band in which i can see montana i couldnt believe coz these two things are made for each other! both are so beautiful! <3

  • kick ass! nicely done.

  • profound

  • U should have used transitions and slow motion in the beginning ... but am I a director or what ... I am Germany too and ... recovery from what? Everything looks fine here. But watch out GW is after you. ... I mean global wariming^^ this is one messed up post again^^

  • brilliant

  • thin red line. amazing movie

  • yeah, and by the way (excellent video) we can be glad to have this nature before its destroyed. im from germany and it makes me glad that obama serves the kyoto protocol. it may be a sparse step, but its the beginning of recovery....

  • maybe its not the beginning but its the step into the right way and hopefully not to late

  • I thought this video was brilliantly executed and absolutely stunning. Well done for making it. Really enjoyed it.

  • i just posted my video verson of this song. we did some stuff simlar. but i would be like to know what you think of mine, if you want to check it out.

  • 1:36 also scared me xD

so interest in the video and all of the sudden the friking noise

  • STRAIGHT FROM TEXAS!!!

  • the words are from thin red line :)

  • Beautiful film

  • holy shit that scared me at 1:36 :((

  • It scares me every single time i listen to this song! And wonderful video and song!

  • @onemoredog1 yeah i went straight to 1:36 thinking..

"how could something in an explosion's song scare a person?"

..then it happened..and i was like *jump* "what the hell?!"

    ..and now i know.

  • beautiful, great shots

it goes perfectly with the song.

  • Beautiful scenes. :) Nice job.

  • Deep shit man...what an amazing group of musicians! Every song is a trip, corny though it sounds.

  • nice job...all the way from Ireland, beautiful place you live in

  • greath, only one thing. "have you passed through this night?" Why the HELL is it so many "day" and sun pictures? the sunset was nice, but this is a sad song, no f*ucking shiny sun, thats what I think.

  • My interpretation of "night" is a dark period, both mentally and physically, so the content of the "day and sun" footage is metaphorical. I personally don't feel the dialogue is meant to be taken so literally, but that's my opinion.

  • aa okej sry. Then I understand a little bit more. Maybe its me who is to "narrow-minded". But for me the sun and the light are a postive energy both mentally and physically. But everybody thinks differently so...

  • awesome video.

  • Hey dude, your video is really good, i love this song just the words at the beginning make it good, but your video is tremendous. I love the way the land looks around troy. Type of place i would like to live.

  • You did a really great job!!!

    (I like your place too)

    Markus from Florence, Italy

  • beautiful song, you have some really amazing shots here

  • that view at 6:13 ...my God...I could spent most of my days sitting at the edge of that road reflecting

  • Fantastic video; nice editing.

  • what's that sound at 1:36?

  • A gun shot.

  • some kind of edited snare drum

  • It's the sound of a machine gun, part of the sample taken from The Thin Red Line. The monologue is over an assault on a village, and at one point in between the voice-over, one of the soldiers on screen fires his weapon.

  • Great video !!

  • awesome. one of the most touching songs of eits.

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • that's just inspiring :)

  • yea, everytime when I listen to post rock. I'd just take my bassguitar and play a little bit... i wish i had a band with those i can play post rock....

  • i hate the first 2 mins of this song. but the rest is so epic and wonderfully composed. beautiful is great way to explain this music but the mellow intensity it what gets me everytime. love this group.

  • The first 2 minutes are what sets the stage for the rest of the song man. Have you looked up the lyrics of what that guy is saying?

Its very meaningful, force yourself to appreciate it.

  • i know what you mean. im not saying the first two minutes are crap but its just really slow build up. i heard the voice was from a movie. to be honest i cant stand the southern accent. and yes the the words are insightful but to the music speaks for itself.

  • It is from 'The Thin Red Line.' And, I think, that the first 2 minutes are te best. Such an amazing insight into the world

  • genius at wrok ;)

  • So are you an actual filmmaker or just a hobbyist? Either way, I'm impressed. Great job!
