Hamilton is one of the 'fastest' drivers on the grid, but being a race driver isn't all about speed. Alonso is the complete package, he's fast over one lap, good under pressure, consistent, considerate to other drivers when defending and overtaking etc. it makes him the most formidable driver on the grid when he's got a good car. Hamilton is just fast.

Fernando is just used to treatment he got at Renault under Briatore, nowadays he doesn't ask for no. 1 status, he just earns it. I think Lewis is way more of a cunt than Fernando, look how he barged through on Massa today, expecting him to move off the racing line when he was ahead.

But this season he hasn't been at his best (With the exception of a few races, Shanghai, Barcelona, Nurburgring and Korea mainly). When he brought it in a little at Monza, he was overly cautious and lost his spark. He needs to get the right balance and mindset for next season so he can compete at the top again (And Mclaren have to supply a car that can match the Red Bull all season, not just in the odd race).

@seismica I agree entirely with that. What I would say is that he has split up with his long term girlfriend and changed management this year, so it hasn't been easy for him. I would love to see his Dad manage him again - that was when he was at his absolute best. I will never forget Silverstone or Monaco in 2008 - simply awesome driving. I would suggest that either of those races would have pleased Ayrton if he had driven like that. Two of Lewis' all time best drives.
