  • I actually like stats, keep the videos coming =)

  • Hello Dave,

Watching this video of yours reminded me of how bad I need Magic Lantern for my 550D..

but - forgive me for the french words - I'M SCARED SHITLESS of destroying my DSLR.

Please, tell me honestly - how many chances do I have to mess my 550D up while trying to install the firmware?

    Many thanks for your answer..

  • First 0:04 of video I have no idea what you said

  • how to use gray card or color card on FCPX for auto white balance

  • to everyone complaining about he should get to the point!! u can skip it and get tot he point your selfs tbh.. good video.

  • Either way ...if you are taking studio pics, any different color objects that you potograph. change the white balance even at 18% grey.

  • Dave, what kind of video camera are you using? so clear, clip, colorful.

  • Oh get on with it .... I dont need to know how many people have viewed it or eaten bacon sandwiches since the last ice age ...

  • @stableiantheloon I am not sure I understand your comment.

  • @drumat5280 He's saying that you labeled your video as "Can I use an 18% gray card...?", not "For the first 1:40 of this video I will inform you of my stats from the past year then tell you about white balance". Get on with the show yo

  • @twentymoreyears sorry I will try to get to the point faster next time.

  • @drumat5280 actually i liked that part. don't listen to haters!

  • @drumat5280 Well done to "respond, not react" to the snark. Never fails to amaze and amuse me how readily people can descend into rudeness when hiding behind their keyboards.

  • Sir, i have S1065, how may i set white balance ? is it possible to get perfect color images. Just perfect ! please guide what should i do.

  • Which brand dual sided white/grey card is that?

  • @guitarherosjs I can't remember the exact name but I do have it listed on my gear page on my site.

  • what kinda camera did u record this video in

  • Hi Dave, when you take a picture of the gray card, do your white balance and exposure settings need to be in auto ?

  • thanks Dave - great video, as usual

  • From my perspective you are the one in the foreign country, not me :)

And I have the advantage that I also speak your language and you don't speak mine :)

    Thanks for the tutorial.

  • @pajson13 where are you from?

  • @drumat5280 I am from Serbia living in Sweden (mastering more than three languages as a native) :).

    Regards!

  • you say that 35% percent of your viewers are from foreign countries yet not all of your videos are visible to foreign visitors.. it would be kind if you were to change this

  • @kleinpauldotcom If you are from a country like Germany when I add music to my video they will not play in that country, however you can watch them on my Vimeo channel. See my about page.

  • @drumat5280 thank you that is good to know! now whenever german copyright laws keep me from watching your videos i will just try this other site

  • one thing i noticed - when you flipped the sheet, and took a picture of the gray side, your white balance was already set to "custom" - so your second white balance is a custom white balance of your previous custom setting. Shouldn't you have switched to AWB (or whatever lighting situation you're in) before you took the second pic and set your second white balance?

  • your videos are very helpful

  • Congrats.As I loving learning with you.I am NEW to video.Since buying a CanonT2i

  • Thanks for this. I got my 60d a few months ago and always had to color correct in post. Everything was always on the yellow side when I shot indoors. Now it looks great.

  • Oddly enough, I just acquired an 18% grey card last week.

  • Nice vid Dave!, it remind me, you can use the "white balance" to achieve some light effects, by example, using a blue card on day light to set the white balance, makes the white light to turn golden...well, at the end you may do that on After Effects or any other program.

  • 18% grey is for setting exposure.

Any neutral shade (equal amounts of red, green, blue) can be used to set white balance.

  • Happy Anniversary!!

  • wanted to say it, but always awesome vids. thanks for doing them. i learn so much from them. thanks bud!

  • Congrats on the 1 year anniversary. Got my T2i today and am excited to use it.

    Greets from Romania.

  • I have a VEEEERRRY important question @drumat5280... What is the best aperture to set to keep a good shallow depth of field look and at the same time not having to worry about going in and out of focus because your moving around filming your subject?????

  • @brandonlamarmusic

I believe that depends on your distance from the subject.

  • i thought "they" are starting to use 12% grey...

  • when is the review coming??? this is too long man

  • Comment removed

  • I see you have the light of day, what time are you taking pictures? Alogne you use or fluorescent lamp?

  • What camera are you shooting your video? What lighting are you using?

  • @tradershow t2i, check out my gear page on my site.

  • hey dave, i hope you make another year of videos! hey and by the way , there is a funktion called auto white balance, works pretty good for me

  • @lauserlu awb works well for me most of the time if it is daylight but I need to get better wb when inside.

  • Luckily custom white balance is much easier to set on Nikon. Just set wb to PRE, then hold down wb key for few seconds and take a picture of something neutral. If it worked, good flashes on the top display. Setting the custom white balance takes only few seconds if just know how to do it.

  • From Honduras, checking in. Dave rules! PS, I'm waiting on some equipment in the mail to do some audio monitoring on a 7D. I'll reply to your video so you ca have a look. Take care!

  • ..and what does white balance do? why does it matter?

  • @kurizu4444 keeps the colours an an tones correct for different situations

  • @kurizu4444 I will try to do a video on this.

  • does it matter or change the quality if you use a gray card vs a white card?

  • I use the 18% Gray Card for Photo as well as video white balance. works great. I also use special color cards to get morning and evening look to my photos no matter what the time of day.

  • were did you get the stats from?

  • @techbannana from Google Analytics.

  • @drumat5280 Thanks, I am coming up to one year soon and want to do the same!

  • Please make a video solely for audio purposes. What is needed for pro audio quality when using Magic Lantern? Splitters, head phones etc. Thanks!

  • Keep doing awesome videos, they are very helpful :)

  • @usrnamedenied thanks.
