@drumat5280 He's saying that you labeled your video as "Can I use an 18% gray card...?", not "For the first 1:40 of this video I will inform you of my stats from the past year then tell you about white balance". Get on with the show yo
@drumat5280 Well done to "respond, not react" to the snark. Never fails to amaze and amuse me how readily people can descend into rudeness when hiding behind their keyboards.
Also Sir i need to ask one more thing. Can i get raw file format in S1065. I would really appreciate if you can help me get it through any possible method, patch, hack. I need your help please reply.
you say that 35% percent of your viewers are from foreign countries yet not all of your videos are visible to foreign visitors.. it would be kind if you were to change this
@kleinpauldotcom If you are from a country like Germany when I add music to my video they will not play in that country, however you can watch them on my Vimeo channel. See my about page.
one thing i noticed - when you flipped the sheet, and took a picture of the gray side, your white balance was already set to "custom" - so your second white balance is a custom white balance of your previous custom setting. Shouldn't you have switched to AWB (or whatever lighting situation you're in) before you took the second pic and set your second white balance?
Thanks for this. I got my 60d a few months ago and always had to color correct in post. Everything was always on the yellow side when I shot indoors. Now it looks great.
Nice vid Dave!, it remind me, you can use the "white balance" to achieve some light effects, by example, using a blue card on day light to set the white balance, makes the white light to turn golden...well, at the end you may do that on After Effects or any other program.
I have a VEEEERRRY important question @drumat5280... What is the best aperture to set to keep a good shallow depth of field look and at the same time not having to worry about going in and out of focus because your moving around filming your subject?????
Luckily custom white balance is much easier to set on Nikon. Just set wb to PRE, then hold down wb key for few seconds and take a picture of something neutral. If it worked, good flashes on the top display. Setting the custom white balance takes only few seconds if just know how to do it.
From Honduras, checking in. Dave rules! PS, I'm waiting on some equipment in the mail to do some audio monitoring on a 7D. I'll reply to your video so you ca have a look. Take care!
I use the 18% Gray Card for Photo as well as video white balance. works great. I also use special color cards to get morning and evening look to my photos no matter what the time of day.
I actually like stats, keep the videos coming =)

Hello Dave,
Watching this video of yours reminded me of how bad I need Magic Lantern for my 550D..
but - forgive me for the french words - I'M SCARED SHITLESS of destroying my DSLR.
Please, tell me honestly - how many chances do I have to mess my 550D up while trying to install the firmware?
Many thanks for your answer..

From my perspective you are the one in the foreign country, not me :)
And I have the advantage that I also speak your language and you don't speak mine :)
Thanks for the tutorial.

18% grey is for setting exposure.
Any neutral shade (equal amounts of red, green, blue) can be used to set white balance.
