  • I still have no idea what the hero worship is about this guy.

  • @Silicondoc you have to have been there.

  • @olamf1977 - I wasn't there and I understand the hero worship about this guy.

  • @GratefulVince yeah me too, that was just the thing that popped into my head to say at the time, in defence of my hero, john winston lennon. i suppose a better thing to say wud be you have ta feel what he sang about to get it, and it happens that many people felt what his music was about. and since people exhault musicians who seem to understand and feel their pain, hence the "hero worship about this guy" the person whom i replied to obiously doesnt share the same feelings that lennon fans do.

  • MY MOMMA SAYS OBAMA!

  • I saw this the night it was broadcast. I think it was a Monday. (I'm serious). quite electrifying at the time to see him on anything. man, that was a long, long time ago. god bless him.

  • john about to go off on a feminist rant

  • This most definetly took place during the so called "lost weekend". He looks happy & healthy here. Which it had stayed this way.

  • @Lubbylove89 *Wish*

  • John looked very interested in the questions. And this in part of the good questions and research of the interviewer before the show. Great!

  • Snyder's a good interviewer----you can tell John's interested in the questions; he's not always so responsive....

  • John was working with Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, and members of the Weather Underground. FBI already had him in COINTELPRO. They were banning him out of the US to try and stop his Anti-Vietnam activity here in the states. Two best bands ever- Doors and Beatles

  • 4:07 So, that's where Dunkin' Donuts got their idea!!!!!!

  • @LandondeeL i dont get it

  • @gamerofmanytrades Dunkin' Donuts in the 80's and 90's had a series where a store owner would wake up in the middle of the night and shuffle off to work murmuring "Time to make the donuts". John Lennon's "Time to make an album" reminded me of that!

  • john lennon said rock n roll came from black music? is this real? go john speaking the truth on tv

  • @mjjcng8958 Rock 'n' Roll came from Rythm 'n' Blues.

  • @FloydSwampy i know that and the fact that he said it means alot b/c people say oh there is no black music

  • @mjjcng8958

no black music? huh? surely even the biggest twat couldn't deny that black people from america ,to jamaica, to brazil and beyond not only invented the very foundations for all modern popular music, but for decades have been its greatest innovators

  • @gloomyoutlook While the other races were developing written languages, architecture, science and physics, medical technology, ......

  • @duncanstpt

and war, slavery, exploitation, religious repression, imperialism... yeah, great things. let's all judge "different races" by all their legacies, not just the chosen few, you fucking racist.

  • @gloomyoutlook well said sir.

  • when was this?

  • At around 8.10, why does the interviewer think that John doesn't understand his story about the woman who wanted a 'filter' to block out the southern states accent? John quite clearly laughed about it. ??

  • @kazraz72 That's because he was nervous, busy with himself, and probably on coke. Still quite an enjoyable thing. Luv, Seb

  • what year was this interview?

  • I always John was the best looking Beatle

  • He look's so good here,hot as.....

  • Tom Snyder has all the personality of a used dishrag.

  • i love to see him smile...

  • @Pixiegnom Me too!! It just lights up his face. Paul was cute, but John was handsome....

  • @HRHdianolivier - For me Paul was the best looking, followed by George than John (esp. during his later years) and finally Ringo although they were all good looking.

  • deepest insight at the core of the beatlemachine by now so far, btw Tom´s trying hard to make him feel comfortable,my guess

  • Incredible, like interviewing Mozart.

  • Interesting view of Lennon. Sharp as ever, John seems somewhat wounded, a little more vulnerable and even humble in this interview. It's nice to see it after all the stuff we've seen focusing on a more bitter side of the man.

It's a good thing for Tom Snyder too, I don't think many stars would be so patient being interrogated by such a cynical and caustic turd as this interviewer could be.

  • @Stackpot Yeah, he was somewhat pompous. Overall his interviews were entertaining and he had good guests. A side note is that when I was a kid he was a news anchorman on our LA NBC affilite tv station. He died in the early 80's I think.

  • Tom Snyder has to be the worst host of all time.

After listening to a lot of his shows I've come to this.....HE MAKES ME SICK with his CHEAP sarcasim. A PIECE OF SHIT INDEED. FUCK SNYDER

  • What a horrible interviewer! If he would just allow Lennon some time to talk, it could have been very interesting. He keeps cutting him off, and you can see that Lennon is put off by it. Dreadful!

  • Tom.....I know your dead. RIP. But, JEEZ man you are talking too much through an important interview.

  • He is really missed

  • tom snyder (dismissively): and those silly haircuts

lennon (without a beat): "those silly haircuts" that you have now!

i always thought tom snyder was a fuzzy cock box, and this is my absolute favorite lennon interview moment!

  • 5:38

"all our messages were subliminal you know, we were sendin messages out all right but eh, just reporting on the state we were in. you know, lookin back on it and, we made things like "all you need is love you know", still a chain of messages with all that psychedelic stuff."... um admitting that there are subliminal messages. .... creepy shit.

  • @puresickmermaid Yep, Yoko is still manipulating him in death as she did in life.

  • I love John and I will do it forever

    AAA

  • I'm not watchin this vid, even though Lennon is there, cause I dont like Tom Snyder's interviewing, same for Charlie Rose.

  • @matukonyc Yoko knew John's Achilles heel though - his departed mother. Yoko simply took her place. She referred to herself as "Mother" when speaking to him and it melted John into putty that she could mold and control. John lost his mother tragically at 14 and never really got over it. Yoko knew that and filled the void. John was strong but it was the 14-year-old boy inside that Yoko manipulated.

  • @g1797 That was the John Lennon before Yoko. She pulled his strings from the day they met.

  • it was nice when rock meant something. it's just a format now.

  • all your YOKO comments are off...they was an item, they chos each other she was not responsible for the Beatles break-up if anything, it's Macca wanting to control things that put the others off...Linda Kodak family and empire were invited to run things because the business side of it was going off too and the Beatles were huge sellers. The business was a mess I think Lennon had enough and he couldn't relate ...communicate with MACCA on a personal or artistic basis. period.

  • Comment removed

  • @PoireauMan68 Linda Eastman happened to be a photographer but bore no relation to the Eastman/Kodak company. Just a coincidence of surname, try a Wiki before you post "facts" okay?

  • The Beatles = Bleach

  • wow its too bad that he died after he got himself together. he really seems well adjusted here. even after all that acid he took and the break up of the band. he seems very content with himself. what a senseless senseless thing.

  • @AhYaOk what band are you talking about?

  • What an icon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mr. Lennon was very well spoken. Rest in Peace. I loved the comment he made to Mr. Snyder about smoking....

  • john was afraid of Yoko. But noone else. That Yoko must have some nice tight pussy, man.

  • what year was this?

  • @DangerousBastard. You should hate mark chapman he shot such a genius and a man who wanted peace.that bastard mark chapman is of course gonna burn in he'll once he gets there he deserves the most gruesome punishment in the book. The world would be really different if John was stool here and everyone knows that except bastards who don't love this man.

  • get famous get a voice get shot yanks doit brits doit any1 who thretons get shot RIP JOHN LENNON

  • alot of people made fun of tom snyder......but I always enjoyed his show and liked his personality he seemed to be a genuine person

  • when was this??...about '71 or so??...Snyder looks a lot different than he did in the 1979 Kiss interview

  • @Eddie62070 this was some time after 71

lennon looks like he was recording walls & bridges

  • @Eddie62070 April 28, 1975

  • @robertmastroianni cool...thanx!

  • I like more John

  • Good god. Shut up and let John talk.

  • It's very interesting how 4 men in the same band had such different views on subjects like the Beatles breakup

  • Lennon looks like Lionel Messi.

  • I dont hate Mark Chapman. Dont like him one bit, but I dont hate him. John lennon was about peace and love, and I believe in that too. John wasnt a fair-weather hippy, he truly believed in peace and love. So to honour John's memory, I do too.

  • @DangerousBastard.... If we forget peace and love, and succumb to hate, then John's work was for nothing. To hate Mark Chapman, and sickos like him, is to endorse the kind of negative energy that they represent. As George said "beware of darkness".

  • @DangerousBastard ITS Kinda Ironic a Msg Regarding Peace and Love, from someone who choose's a username like DangerousBastard!!,..

  • lyrics from u2 song wrote for john lennon

    Dont beleive in angels

    skid row or the gangs

dont belive mark chapman when the gun went off in his hand

    i....i belive in love

    love you john

  • ...I belive in God

    I belive in Beatles,

I just belive in you John,

    Just in you, God.

  • @Jomabeks

the question is does god believe in you

  • Interesting to hear JL refer to himself as working class when in fact he was educated middle class. He even put on a thicker Liverpool accent in the early days to sound more working class. His aunt asked him why he did it and he said it works better for us if we talk like that. Very media savvy

  • Tom Snyder is RIP but incredible for his understating manner. Dan Akroyd did a wonderful bit of him in the early SNL days. Lennon visited Snyder show a couple of times. Everyone did...even the Clash!

  • John had an obvious respect for Tom Snyder. Is there more of this interview anywhere?

  • All we are saying... give peace a chance.

  • ever see JL giving chatmen an autugraph chapmen smiling like he was a nice guy? somebody could get busted, go to his prisin , find him and kill him

  • Hell with him being deported... If he'd been deported, he probably still would've been alive today alongside with Paul and Ringo today. Although it is what it is. I know we all wish he was still here. He was loved so much.

  • John Lennon was funny as hell but this dude is not laughing! He says the Beatles were whiter than Elvis because they were English. Look at the face he makes after he says it. He must be thinking "Christ, is this guy made of stone?"

  • I remember pretending I had a lot of homework so I could stay up late to watch this interview!

  • Imagine how great this interview could have been if Snyder actually had a fucking clue about rock'n'roll in general or the Beatles in particular.

  • Come on cut tom snyder a break it seems he had some insight about rock-n-roll.

  • Comment removed

  • Liked the interview material covered. Seemed as wide-ranging & general interest possible given where & when was taken.

  • "and those silly haircuts"

lennon: " and those silly haircuts you have now"

    burn...

    lol

  • LIVE ON JOHN LENNON!!!!! R.I.P

  • it is Lennon i saw the show when it first came on, and on he night he died they re-played this entire interview, NBC tomorrow show.

Tom Snyder was very boring, his shows were usually very hard to watch, Dan Aykroyd did a great parody on Saturday of Snyder that was better than Snyder.

  • that not John lennon. This video a fake.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain you are a fool

  • @JamesTKirkCobain Guess you have no idea who John Lennon is.

  • Hot damn :)

He looked much healthier during the Lost Weekend. He had meat on his bones.

Btw stop putting Yoko down. What did she do? She and John were only in love. Love can change people.

  • He's exactly right, it's because it came from black music. Scared those the pious little church ladies to death.

  • 'cause you're a moron

  • seriously lennon remind me a friend i used to have one day he got me out of place and i end up punching his fucking face

  • You lack self control and projecting your anger with your friend onto John Lennon is totally absurd. Grow-up and try to act like a human being.

  • your commnt is stupid lennon was a mad man I see his interviews and is like his ugly wife poisoned his food

  • wrote the most brilliant music even as they were breaking up tho little did he realise

  • It amazes me reading Y.T comments and that people are still blaming Yoko , still believing in the Paul is Dead hoax. Anyone who really is interested in the Beatles should know by now they were all frustrated , had to deal with a lot of the biz and partnership stuff which is tiresome. As for Johns manner of death it had only to do w/ his level of fame , Harrison had close calls as well.

  • i love how black people call their music{rap} art ....lol.....its just like yoko calling herself an artist.

  • @mvp91593 the rock is black music

  • its creation, and all creation is artistic, and rap music isn't black peoples you moron its everybody's you take the universal language of music and degrade it

  • @mvp91593 what rap is , is just shit!! no music anyway!!

  • That's subjective. I've heard very good rap music (nothing on mtv mind you) and yoko was discussed in my contemporary art class.

  • Do you notice how relaxed John looks when he's being interviewed alone, without Yoko? She always made him jump through hoops. She made him push her agenda and voice her opinions in interviews when she was sitting right there. He looked nervous and afraid to step on her toe. But this interview shows a relaxed, real John.

  • You just hate Yoko

  • @migsly , you're right! yoko was a manipulative fucking control freak! I felt so sorry for John. Too bad he had that mother trip he was on. He let yoko fuck over his life. And yes, she was a huge reason the Beatles broke up! If yoko encouraged John to really make a go at it the beatles at least in my opinion would have produced some great stuff. Sad to say this wasn't to be. Truman Capote called John a real sweetheart, and yoko a dragon lady! Capote was nobody's fool! He felt bad for John!

  • @migsly oh bullshit

  • Comment removed

  • @migsly I don't see that at all. Nobody ever told John Lennon what to do. his personality wouldn't stand for it.

  • @migsly are you kdding me?-give it a rest already

  • @migsly that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. There are many interviews with Yoko there that John was relaxed. Don't project your dislike of Yoko onto him.

  • @migsly

That's why the "Let It Be' sessions were hell.

She made him unnessecarely hung up about the 'moptop'years, yet these days 'appreciates' those 'lesser' years.

Conned John into believing he could walk the streets of N Y without protection, which was deemed uncool and unnessecary."They all love us here"

Still...hats off to to most successful groupie in the history of the world.

  • @migsly John was John Lennon decades before he met Yoko... don't underestimate him. He was always in complete control.

  • @migsly

Rubbish..John was his own man, and he chose Yoko and needed her...he nearly died as a junkie before they got together...

  • @jdw1980

    1. John was his own man BEFORE he met Yoko. Then he dwindled into a little vulnerable boy afraid to offend "mommy."

    2. John did not choose Yoko. Yoko chose him. Her parasitic persistence + the drugs + John's achilles heel = John & Yoko.

    3. He became heavily addicted to cocaine AFTER he met Yoko. It was at its worst at the time of his death. If the bullets hadn't killed him, the drugs would have.

  • @migsly I think that's only because she challenged him. Fact, you would not be hearing John Lennon speaking like this if it was not for her.

  • @the80ees Challenged him?? She destroyed him.

What you see in this interview is the real John Lennon. What you see in interviews with Yoko with him is NOT the real John Lennon.

  • @migsly You see lots of Julian here in this interview. Julian was the man John could never be. I enjoy John without Yoko. Yoko was the cougar, and John was her prey. Do you think John could like ties and coffee mugs in his image, as Yoko has so "lovingly" done?

  • @puresickmermaid AWESOME COMMENT

  • "but in any event" don't go and change the subject on John Lennon you tool

  • subliminal messages?

MDC said that voices in the btls music told him to kill lennon, hmmmm?

lennon was playing with a force that he could not control, and that had no loyalty or love for him.may his end be according to his works.

  • This interview was recorded in 1975 according to wikipedia entry on Tom Synder. BTW He died in 2007

  • wow he is sooo smart, when Tom was talking about other groups sending political messages, john finishd his response and then, like, slammed him with "what groups are you talking about?" and he was like...oh shit....think fast think fast......LMAO

  • HAHAHAAH!!! omg i had to pause the video i was laughing so hard when he said how Paul was the cute one and girls would go 'hoo hooo'!!! thats like the highlight of my LIFE.....lmao!!!

but paul's not the only cute one, i mean, look in the mirror, john.....

  • What would John say about music today?

  • hahaha MVP91593 my bad man didnt mean to respond to u on that comment i agree with wat you say 100%

  • i hate the sick fucker who killed him mark david chapman ...i really do...dont we all

  • my dad told me back when this happened he had a Mark David Chapman and a John Lennon in his town...both with similar characteristcs strangely too...(No Joke dont downgrade me either cuz i really dgaf)

  • @mvp91593 Right on, how could you be so sick and sad to do something that terrible to someone that true and genuine... Baffles me.

  • @mvp91593 DARN STRAIGHT

  • @mvp91593 John would have wanted us to forgive him. He advocated peace not hate.

  • @mvp91593 ...MDC was a mind-controlled assassin. Hate the people and the process and the agenda behind that.

Then when you've stopped steaming, remember John's words:

"Love is the answer -- and you know that, for sure.

  • @mvp91593 .....don't even mention that fucks name my man .....thats why the monster murdered John , to attain his fame !

  • @mvp91593

an angry response is natural, but let's aim toward something aka loving and understanding. john could not save the world, and he had his own life to life, including objectives that served his interests (breaking up the beatles, primal therapy, etc). a free society will fail to police, or control, all things, just as it sacrifices some in nature. understanding might be one response to changing nature.

  • @mvp91593 because of Nixon.

  • @mvp91593 because of Nixon and the unseen force that controls individual lives other than their own to this day

  • One must see Dan Aykroyd's impression of Tom Snyder to fully appreciate Tom Snyder.

  • i wonder how many dead musicians kicked the crap out of tom when he made it to hell

  • people who overcome discouragement always make it. working class, upper class, it doesn't matter. discouragement is the enemy; its the "I can't" whispering in our ears.

  • I just wanted to say that I saw the Beatles in concert when was 8 or 9 and it changed my life and rest of the world around me. Nothing to this day comes close to the impact that band had on the world. I don't get to this site all that much, but need to more often I suppose, since it is mine. Love and Pieces of it.

    dd

  • the interviewer is douch beyond!...but them were the times wern't they...Oh well...John Lennon = Legend!

  • Damn Tom Snyder is a dick and a terrible interveiwer.

  • Ummm....he was shot and killed on December 8th 1980.

  • is dead from over 29 years, dumbass...

  • Um... no shit, moron. It was a joke. Everyone knows Saint Lennon is dead.

  • Interesting statement. The beatles made the music a little more white because we were english.

  • This is 1975

  • This took place about 1974-75. I remember that as the time Tom Snyder had his show.

  • tom snyder seems to be putting lennon on the spot. i dont think he really had any bands in mind. i just seemed like a corner to put john in...

  • does anybody know what year this clip is from.

  • Is this the guy acting in those funny Pink Panther films.

  • God how i miss that man!

  • Look on Wikipedia, its 75.

  • My God. It was '75 in the middle of stand by me etc.

  • This was back in the pre-cable, pre internet and pre MTV days. A Beatle being interviwed on the TV! I remember watching this when I was in elementary school.

  • No. It HAS to be 1970 or later. Probably '70, '71. Why on earth would you say 67 or 68?

  • This looks about 1975. He did an interview with WHispering Bob Harris on Whistle test at roughly the same time. He also released his fabulous Rock and Roll album.....PLayed Stand by me and Slipping and Sliding when he appeared on Whistle Test. I remember it well. I was nuts about the man........

  • what year was this?

  • why is everyone hating on snyder.compared to the others like him he was great.he always had cool people on the show and had good chats with them

  • john genius..yoko ono poop
