Male Seahorse Giving Birth

RayS862 - I have always wanted to get two sea horses (same sex) only I have never had an aquarium let alone salt water. From what I have read sea horses are extremely difficult to take care of -the problem is I do not want fish. Do you think a responsible pet owner can start off with a salt water tank? I am going to ask around to see if any of the Vets are into salt water tanks and perhaps sea horses. I do (and have read) lots of info online about their care. Thanks

The male does give birth. The eggs are deposited into the male's pouch and he will add the sperm. He then keeps them there until they are developed enough to be born, then the contractions starts.

@EJsTJs It's the closest thing to birth in fish land. The male basically has a womb and has contractions to expel the young. But technically, it's just a pouch to help ensure survival as almost all other fish just fertilize eggs and run away.

@megarouge2001 Well, if you want to get technical about it, the male seahorse produce sperm, and she female produce eggs. The male fertilizes the eggs, and the female places the eggs in a brood pouch in the tail of the male seahorse. (After the female gives the male the eggs, it wounds her, and she dies within a couple days.) 3 weeks later, the eggs hatch...(No pain to the mail)...So instead, you would rather die? I know this, and i'm only a junior in high school...
