The movie featured a fictional character but some of the events protrayed therein are true. For instance, Sir Colonel Bannister Tarleton was portrayed by Jason ISaacs in the movie. In reality he truely was brutal and more than once had to be restrained by his superiors.

I missed the part were Gabriel died..but have seen it on yt...I've cried so much from this movie...and to realize I'm going to cry even more when I watch all of it is unimaginable. Heath was a talented actor, a breathtaking young man, and sounded like a wonderful man. He will always be in my heart, and remembered always.
