NBC trades the PGA Tour with ESPN for the NBA. Then, once either contracts expire, both will end on the closest air date for the season & then switch to other networks. There, the PGA Tour on ESPN & the return of the NBA on NBC.
@TVgeinus90sSim Or they can just have Sunday games, Christmas, and the Finals on NBC.
While Weekday and other playoff games are given to TNT and ESPN. There's already two different networks sharing coverage, can't see why Sundays can't at least be given to NBC to broadcast.
Or, NBC is outbid for NHL rights by ABC and ESPN, meaning ESPN and consequently ABC has to give up NBA rights. NBC, in need of a replacement for the NHL, is the only network that places a serious bid because of the lack of time available on CBS (which has NCAA football and basketball in addition to the NFL and some PGA tour events in the fall, winter, and spring) and Fox's commitments to baseball and the NFL. NHL rights go up at the end of this season.

Here's what should happen:
NBC trades the PGA Tour with ESPN for the NBA. Then, once either contracts expire, both will end on the closest air date for the season & then switch to other networks. There, the PGA Tour on ESPN & the return of the NBA on NBC.
They should also give rights to CBS.
