  • moved character low!

  • that cool

  • LoL

  • That is a great digital rendering of ASL. That is fun. I good way to make video for instruction

  • This is so amazing. The thing i want to know is, how do people learn to speak sign language/ and how to understand?

  • @101pinkbunny, people learn ASL (sign language) the same way you learn a spoken language. The more you are exposed to the language, the more you understand. Children of Deaf parents see their parent's signing every day and learn that the signs mean things, just like English words mean things. Every child has the ability to learn a language, be it spoken or signed.

  • Thank You so much. I was just wondering.

  • its actually easier for chilldren to learn sign then it is for them to learn a spoken language. i was able to teach my nephew (about 1 year old kid) more words in sign language then having him speak the words. if you are interested in learning sign language i will give you some advise. DON'T GIVE UP!!! its hard to learn it at an older age. try to not get discouraged. try to be around deaf people as much as possible. good luck and have fun.

  • love it! its amazing...Great structure.

  • That is awesome! The animation is fantastic!

  • Awesome!

  • Captioned/subtitled version can be found under "More From:Vcom3D"

The focus is on American Signing Language and it does not need voice.

ASL is a popular language used by the deaf and hard of hearing.

  • @sjawfilms THERES no sound because he's DEAF dummy. why would a dead person talk if they cant hear themselves. COMMON SENSE.

  • @Simstyle12

Have you heard of "interpretors"? THEY sometimes voice while they sign. Some people who are learning sign voice what they sign. It makes it easier for some to learn if they voice what they are signing. I am hard-of-hearing, & use sign language. JUST because one is using sign language, doesn't mean s/he is deaf.

  • @sjawfilms because it is is asl...

  • @sjawfilms I find the facial expressions a little harder to follow than a person signing, but still readable. Well done & very impressive!

  • holy hell, this is amazing with the fluid gestures and facial expressions, much better then most 3-d asl models ive ever seen

  • nvrmnd

  • if anyone can post the story so i can take the words to signs that would be helpful

  • are you looking for a sign to sign translation? or an actually translation into English?

  • Who can tell me the related documents about this Video?

  • Vcom3D and the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center of Gallaudet University are researching and developing a proof-of-concept system for creating and delivering animated stories using the full range of facial expression and body language of American Sign Language, as well as manual signs. Results from this Phase I proof-of-concept will provide the basis for developing an Authoring System and run-time software for creating these animated stories.

    Hope that helps :)

  • Very interesting.... what kind of program software??

  • Maya 8.5 by Autodesk was used for this animation.

  • I've seen this before and I really like it. Possibly quite useful as a tool for ASL students to "author" a story using this animation (making sure they add correct expressions, etc). Can you tell me more about this and how feasible it would be for my students to use?

  • Good afternoon! We are glad to hear that you liked what you saw.

We do have an authoring tool called Sign Smith Studio, that gives you the ability to add SigningAvatar® characters to your digital content -- easily.

The characters sign your content and make it accessible to your students or anyone who could benefit from sign language.

You can check out about Sign Smith Studio on our website.

Hope you will like what you will see. :o)

  • I will watch it on website. I send to my deaf friends,to watch that show and keep spread it. Smile! to Vcom3D

  • this is GREAT!! what a useful tool 3D animation...hmm its about time no?

    peace.

  • Hey,

    Brilliant!!

Really wonderful! I want make a Swedish Sign Language -movie too!!

    /Mats Jonsson

  • hey, i have a suggestion. if you can adjust your model, i would like to see the model with bigger hand. I know it won't look real, but it would be easy to see big hands than small hands!

  • Good morning! This video was created as proof-of-concept prototype to show how 3-D animation can be accomplished with different ASL features. We do have an authoring tool that allows you to create scripts in ASL (with some manual translation required) but you can resize the video to make the character appear larger. Thank you for the great feedback!

  • This is huge! Brilliant! A breakthrough where other companies/programs/animators have failed, this one takes the proverbial cake. This has serious potential and I can't wait to see where it goes. WELL DONE to everybody who played a part in making this happen, well done.

  • That one best. I love your video deaf 3d. Thank you.

  • 3D animation software ???

  • Maya 8.5 by Autodesk was used for this animation.

    - Michael Freeman, 3d artist/animator

  • Oh that Maya 8.5 is very very expansive.... Forget it. i cannot afford that expansive program. Also I am deaf and fluent ASL too. I watch your vlog talk about rare bird. I total understand all about the rare bird.

  • We do have an authoring tool which is less expensive called Sign Smith Studio, that gives you the ability to add SigningAvatar® characters to your digital content -- easily.

It will not (at least not yet) give you the exactly same quality as Forest ASL but could create sign language animations.

The characters sign your content and make it accessible to anyone who could benefit from sign language.

You can check out about Sign Smith Studio on our website.

  • software ?? 3D animation

  • ha ha! love it! 5 stars! :)

  • wow that kicks ass!!

  • That simply rocks.
