Tip: If you get stuck on the part where you have to use your pliers to pull out the center piece, try bashing it in a little bit with the pliers first to loosen it, then pull and wedge it out. This guy made it look easier than it is lol.

ive found that instead of using the knife to take off the very top part its a whole lot easier to just use pliers, needle nose preferably, to grasp the lip and the inside of the nozzle piece and lift up, its a lot less time consuming than the knife fight.

i accomplished job of your knife and flat head pliers with a pair of thin wire cutters. basically did the same thing for getting the center out, and then used it to make a couple cuts down to the edge and used it to cut fairly close to the lip.. it worked pretty well and seemed a little more controllable/easy than using the pliers to roll it off...
