They have alot to lose by not developing talent. Money is not as exciting alone as great and exciting new talent. They sit in their houses at night and big mansions and they have no music to listen to but crap. Money can't buy happiness. They are miserable old business people.
it took me time to find some people who OWN. Van Der Graaf Generator, i kept listening to them, I didn't give up and I listen to Gentle Giant. and I love Selda...they are not opened and very arrogant. They don't care what the public wants, they are choosing to dumb people down, based on their crappy taste.
I just miss bands/artists who play guitar well and in the 1990s that's exactly what we had in the mainstream. Bands that were sort of like the beatles and more alternative thanks to Nirvanan and REM starting a trend on the charts. Then so many great bands came along, then there was MTV 120 minutes wich showed all the great bands. That has been non existant since 2001. Since then i can't name one good guitar band in the mainstream.
The fact Nickelback gets classed as a rock band now days really shows how fucked the industry is.Aside from the mainstream scene there is plenty of good music around Nightwish,Avantasia,Kamelot
Radio sucks because there is barely anything substantial being played. Besides Adele, there is no other mainstream artist who can give me songs that are introspective and well-written. The songwriting nowadays is terrible. This electropop movement needs to stop.
@oceanlove241 here in the UK our music scene is so much better. we have Adele, Jessie J, Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran Rebecca Ferguson and many others. we still need to listen to crap from overseas. Beyonces new album is good though aside from 1 or 2 songs.
If you like people like Waka(fake ass nigga)Flocka, then you're probably some dumbass nigga who always gets in trouble at school, constantly throws up gang signs and talks about 'banging in the hood, and makes the rest of us black people look bad. You think that you're badass because you steal Gatorades at lunch, and you think it's a rite of passage to get detention.

You talk about how Beiber is "so hawt" and you defend him when someone says he's gay.
Right now im in high school, and everyone around me is listening to the worst music possible. For the past few years ive been hoping that people will start really searching for music. This is my own favorite analogy; Music is an art form, when a painter creates something he/she stretches the canvas and then splashes paint in a way that looks good to him/her.It is then framed, placed on a wall, and lit properly. The music industry today gives you a lit-framed-blank canvas and tells you "DO NOT TOUCH THE FRAME!" effectively killing the "art" part.
There is altnation all alternative rock bands that you would never hear on commerical radio on channel. grudge bands nirvana and pearl jame have there own channels. metal has channel, top 100 of today has channel. pophits hip hop. rapper eminem has his own channel shady. there is over 100 channel of non stop music.

Anyway, they all sing, perform, act with some very average songs that all the 14 year old girls seem to love.
@tattoolover100 oh, shut up, you know nothing about the music industry, and missed the whole point of this video. just another stupid kid who's bilnd.
Modern music is better than music at any other given time, it is just radio music is horrendous and the good music is buried deep down such as: Opeth Cynic Radiohead Dream Theatre Tool Godspeed! You Black Emporer Converge Pg. 99 Thrice Letlive Defeater Pianos Become The Teeth etc etc
@Dinonu while i do agree that there are good artists making good music such as some of the artists u named along with the black keys, gary clark jr., the dead weather (rip to the white stripes), joe bonamessa and radio moscow....im not sure if there are enough modern day artists that could stand up next to the greats of the past (or if there are as groundbreaking for that matter).
Get sick, get well Hang around an ink well Ring bell, hard to tell If anything is goin' to sell Try hard, get barred Get back, write Braille Get jailed, jump bail - Join the army if you fail Look out kid You're gonna get hit But users, cheaters Six-time losers Hang around the theaters Girl by the whirlpool Lookin' for a new fool Don't follow leaders Watch the parkin' meters.

@warwick2155 how can you blame the younger generation? you are basically blaming children who have been brainwashed by television, radio, advertisement, etc created by the generations that came before them. if anything its the baby boomers who raised these children who should be blamed. besides there is a lot of great music today, you just have to dig deeper to find it.
@warwick2155 True that, most of todays music is just straight garbage there's no talent at all. Back in the 80s and 90s, people were more into skills and lyrical ability, but this new generation of music just focuses on image, sex appeal, who has the most money, and who has the biggest rims on their car. It's like you no longer need talent to be an artist.
The music indutrie's executives only care about money and greed,it's has been 20 years since we had actual musicans in the mainstream music indutry. The 80's way ahead of there years, that's basicaly 80s songs are great.I hope the music industry fades away.
@SleevesOfWizard no, these guys are pros, they know the ins and outs of the music industry they know how it works. what do you know about talent or the music industry? nothing, you're just a kid or a teen. those guys have been in the the industry, and what they're saying is 100% true. and you obviously didn't get the message or the point, you're too ginorant, you refuse to see the truth, because all you know is the radio. you're too blind, but is useless talking to you type of people.
If i find a good song on youtube or something, and I really really liked it, I just might end up buying their cd. If you like a song and want the highest most fidelic quality, you might as well end up spending money, because it makes me feel like an honest man (millenial). :) but they hit it on the head, the record producers have only themselves to blame.
Music is absolutely terrible nowadays, it doesn't take a genius to know that, I'm just hoping that my generation can actually look around, smell the bullshit and start changing it, I myself hope I can do something to reverse this horrible downward spiral in the quality of music being released nowadays.
He's WRONG with Rick Martin as an example of SENSATIONALISM undeveloped talent over talent development
Ricky Martin IS the definition of nurtured talent. Ricky was a pro by time he was 18 years old.
Ricky is not my kind of music, but I know enough about the industry to tell you that the Ricky Martin example is COMPLETELY THE WRONG PERSON TO USE AS THAT EXAMPLE
The Black Keys are a great band that deserve to be in the mainstream media, they are worthy of the spot. It's nice to see the music evolve, whether it sucks or not. whatever..
@spector1991 Agreed the bands sound all the same garbage poppy emo rubbish the pop is just talentless women making crappy meaningless shit, the hip hop is just sampling n dont even get me started on techno. For me The White Stripes is the only band ive liked in the last 10 yrs of music :) JACK WHITE!
@johnnykaka66 How? Even if you don't like their brand of music, one can't deny that they are always trying to grow as musicians. They're never on the radio (at least not my local station) and they are barely on the mainstream radar.
The internet is the best thing that could happen to music. Hi-fi equipment is so cheap nowadays, and no one needs a record company to get their stuff to be widely available. You made some great music? Put it on the 'net, and word might get around. Who cares about the industry, or the business? It's an awesome time for music. So much to discover, right at your fingertips, right now. Don't just complain, go broaden your horizon.
While I enjoy your optimism, music is at an abysmal state. The industry is constantly circulating the same recycled nonsense. Didn't take those pigs long enough to realize impressionable youth will buy an album because of IMAGE rather than legitimate talent. Most of today's artists do not possess an ounce of the artists in the past, they are content in selling albums and promoting their own image.
@see17 Yes, you're right. A lot of popular "musicians" are selling an image more than they do music. But I think neither of us can judge wether those are the majority or not. Like I said, there's a great deal to discover. People who like to experiment (both listeners and musicians) don't have to rely on record companies anymore, because of the internet. You might be right about the industry, but the industry doesn't constitute "music". =)
Yes I suppose you're right...some valid points there. If only people would stop being warped by what they here on the radio and discover artists with legitimate talent!
@strangejourney101 The fact that it's easy to make music now is a bad thing, musicians no longer put as much effort into an album as they used to. This is why there will never be another 9/10 album again.
It's funny how those bands and singers like Limp Bizkit and Ricky Martin that they're ragging on in the video had songs SO much better than the music we're hearing today on the radio.
When Metallica sued Napster, that's when the domino effect began, but the catalyst (the man behind the curtain, so to speak) has always been record labels themselves. Honestly, I put some blame on Michael Jackson and Madonna. With them, music encompassed more. A gimmick. A marketing tool. Tons of cash - the underlying cause for all of this. You're not an artist on a label. You're an "entity". You're album, ticket, and merch sales. That's why things are messed up now. It's all plastic. Hollow.
@WelcomeJanuary you seem to be forgetting that Michael Jackson had talent, that's why he was in the industry in the first place. but Madonna, yeah, that one i agree with you.
@90sandearly00srule3 I never said neither of them had talent (albeit Madonna is questionable... at best). What I meant was that because of their overwhelming success (especially Jackson's), and the advent of MTV, the music industry finally figured out how to make insatiable amounts of capital. The saturation in music is actually a fairly recent thing, but the idea of a musical group or solo artist as a "marketing tool" came to a head around that time. Talent was there... not so much anymore...
The reason the free radio sucks so bad is because the monster wants you to pay another bill and get that digital crap. Save your money a penny saved is a penny earned.
@JimJamHall how do you think how do i feel!??!!im only 15 years old and i know that music today is fucking garbage!!!!50s 60s 70s 80s 90s and early 2000s(2003 the last good year of the music on the radio) ROCKED!!!today music on the radio=SHIT!!!!
I too had given up on the radio... until a few weeks ago. I started listening to the radio 1 night time shows on the internet. There is new music going out, its just a shame its restricted to shows at 4 AM but IT IS OUT THERE! if you look.
C'mon, so many hypos here. Katy perry, bruno mars, beyonce, boyce avenue whatever the fuck it is it FUCKING SUCKS. Music today just sucks, quit hating on justin bieber if you like those bands, because they're no better seriously. It's all fucking overrated and horrible. Shit music everywhere today, oh and FUCK GLEE seriously what a pile of garbage. People these days don't have a fucking brain for music, just following dumb trends-.-
@BadassAnons i'd agree except Bruno Mars isn't bad. he has a good voice, why do people hate him? i don't get it, he sounds passionate, something i don't hear from almost anyone else on the radio. because his songs are overplayed? because his songs sound a bit cliched? don't go by his radio songs, he has great material outside the radio. he has talent. you also forgot Ke$ha, the worst piece of trash to ever happen in music.
@90sandearly00srule3 Fuck i forgot, i always put Ke$ha but i forgot... Well bruno mars is EXTREMELY cliched and overrated. His songs are just....so god damn simple, and i just do NOT buy any of his sentimental crap that's all. And the fact that he's known as a great songwriter today is just disappointing. Look at tom petty, or john lennon. Those were real musicians and songwriters. Bruno mars's songs are just completely tacky and fake, and he sings well, but no i don't see him for real.
i think the distinction needs to be made that its feature/mainstream/showcased music from major labels that is horrible and that great bands just aren't given the time of the day in this era so they stay underground which ruins the mainstream atmosphere. Its all about talentless pop artists and sex instead of great raw music being played. Because marketing and profit is what is important to big business and not quality. Remember that its always about them making a quick dollar.
Back then, when a rock album came out, people were like, "Alright, cool!"
But now, when a rock album comes out, people are like, "Oh, thank the almighty Lord! Praise him for this wonderful gem!"
But in all honesty, music these days are all about money, Twitter-followers, girls, what's played on radio, and shit like that. I miss the days when music was based on art and expression.
@xx2n23 good music is out there , it's just that people dont want to go looking for it , because they would rather have the music industry tell them what to listen to instead .
@slackingstacker Yeah, i mean ''I'll catch a grenade for you?'' Really?? My fucking two year old can write that... ''Baby you're a firework'' FUCKING PATHETIC, retarded simple lyrics and they're so fucking popular and overrated. Seriously fuck those LMFAO fags, fuck Kesha, fuck kanye west, seriously it's so fucking retarded, music today is full of crap. Mainstream sucks ass. At least in the 90s, mainstream was alright. Radiohead, suede, oasis. Today? Even metal has died due to mainstream.
EMI sucks. I wonder if they realize they are keeping new potential customers from hearing new songs by removing their copyrighted material from the internet. How in the hell does youtube posting a song's video hurt EMI. You stupid bastards I'll intentionally avoid anything published by EMI now.
If you know where to look for, you'll find out that there are more music put on the internet by artists for free than the music which is meant to be paid for and the quality won't suffer either.
The people who appeared in this video were criticizing the radio/music industry, not the artists. One did said the industry sells sensation, but sometimes sensation =/= bad music. A lot of commenters here are talking how bad today's music is, just like how their parents criticized their taste of music years ago and they think they're right, when really it's just an opinion and having one doesn't make you right or wrong. You're 16 and you like old music and not today's? Whoopdy fucking doo.
@mercify no it is not. My good friend there bands out there who don;t suck, why??? cause there not jonas bros, miley cyrus, beiber, this generic piece of garabage mass manufactured in a fucking factory, in Taiwan. Nope these guys actually play with their souls, heart and brains, there called alt rock and indie. Don't judge a era of music by what's popular, instead look for better music
@ASDMarauder007 No i'm not saying that, When I say that I mean mainstream. I know there are actual people out there who make real good music which is what I look for lol.
@Troll12338 2010 for me isn't justin bieber. I was in love with a true musicina in 2010 named Natasha Hamilton. 2009 was Justin Bieber. 2010 was empty (continuation of Justin Bieber) and 2011 was Rebecca Black.
@Troll12338 Cher lyodd is there now, she is awful and didnt even come close to winning a cheap talent show called the x factor, but she has music videos and of course 'number 1's' what a joke
@Troll12338 I know huh? It seems to get worse and worse each year. This is why I stick to the old stuff and any new artists that are actually good which is not much anyways.
If I had a radio I would give chances for people who are well known underground to get rid of those jokes that are on the radios nowadays. Electro around '99. Grew up with Crystal Method, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers (big beat genre). In terms of house, I like the subgenre breakbeat and house itself is not bad. Techno nowadays is horrible. Minimal is always a great experience. People stop listening to the radio for now and search up some genres for yourself. PS I love German Minimalistic DJs.
It's just funny how No Doubt, Bush and Limp Bizkit would be considered real music nowadays...that's how low modern music has gotten nowadays. Even though I'm still a big fan of Wes Borland's work.
Probably one of the BEST AND INFORMATIVE YOUTUBE VIDEOS I have ever seen. This video is all you need to view to know the absolute TRUTH!!! Good shit fellas! Much props from the Bay Area in CALI!
There are plenty of Indie bands putting out stellar music, wake up. People are so dumb, only listening to what's on popular radio stations and popular media...duh.

I encourage everyone to research "the music industry exposed" full length, its a youtube documentary that explains it all.
AuroraSunset 4 months ago

This is why the USA needs EDM radio stations. Music, IMO, didn't start going downhill after EDM radio stations started changing formats

Don't just complain, go broaden your horizon.
strangejourney101 5 months ago 12
@strangejourney101
While I enjoy your optimism, music is at an abysmal state. The industry is constantly circulating the same recycled nonsense. Didn't take those pigs long enough to realize impressionable youth will buy an album because of IMAGE rather than legitimate talent. Most of today's artists do not possess an ounce of the artists in the past, they are content in selling albums and promoting their own image.
see17 4 months ago
@see17 Yes, you're right. A lot of popular "musicians" are selling an image more than they do music. But I think neither of us can judge wether those are the majority or not. Like I said, there's a great deal to discover. People who like to experiment (both listeners and musicians) don't have to rely on record companies anymore, because of the internet. You might be right about the industry, but the industry doesn't constitute "music". =)
strangejourney101 4 months ago
@strangejourney101
Yes I suppose you're right...some valid points there. If only people would stop being warped by what they here on the radio and discover artists with legitimate talent!
see17 4 months ago
@strangejourney101 The fact that it's easy to make music now is a bad thing, musicians no longer put as much effort into an album as they used to. This is why there will never be another 9/10 album again.

Hollow.
WelcomeJanuary 5 months ago
@WelcomeJanuary you seem to be forgetting that Michael Jackson had talent, that's why he was in the industry in the first place. but Madonna, yeah, that one i agree with you.
90sandearly00srule3 5 months ago
@90sandearly00srule3 I never said neither of them had talent (albeit Madonna is questionable... at best). What I meant was that because of their overwhelming success (especially Jackson's), and the advent of MTV, the music industry finally figured out how to make insatiable amounts of capital. The saturation in music is actually a fairly recent thing, but the idea of a musical group or solo artist as a "marketing tool" came to a head around that time. Talent was there... not so much anymore...
WelcomeJanuary 5 months ago

C'mon, so many hypos here. Katy perry, bruno mars, beyonce, boyce avenue whatever the fuck it is it FUCKING SUCKS. Music today just sucks, quit hating on justin bieber if you like those bands, because they're no better seriously. It's all fucking overrated and horrible. Shit music everywhere today, oh and FUCK GLEE seriously what a pile of garbage. People these days don't have a fucking brain for music, just following dumb trends-.-
BadassAnons 6 months ago 4
@BadassAnons i'd agree except Bruno Mars isn't bad. he has a good voice, why do people hate him? i don't get it, he sounds passionate, something i don't hear from almost anyone else on the radio. because his songs are overplayed? because his songs sound a bit cliched? don't go by his radio songs, he has great material outside the radio. he has talent. you also forgot Ke$ha, the worst piece of trash to ever happen in music.
90sandearly00srule3 5 months ago 3
@90sandearly00srule3 Fuck i forgot, i always put Ke$ha but i forgot... Well bruno mars is EXTREMELY cliched and overrated. His songs are just....so god damn simple, and i just do NOT buy any of his sentimental crap that's all. And the fact that he's known as a great songwriter today is just disappointing. Look at tom petty, or john lennon. Those were real musicians and songwriters. Bruno mars's songs are just completely tacky and fake, and he sings well, but no i don't see him for real.
BadassAnons 5 months ago
i think the distinction needs to be made that its feature/mainstream/showcased music from major labels that is horrible and that great bands just aren't given the time of the day in this era so they stay underground which ruins the mainstream atmosphere. Its all about talentless pop artists and sex instead of great raw music being played. Because marketing and profit is what is important to big business and not quality. Remember that its always about them making a quick dollar.
JohnnyMarr03 6 months ago
Back then, when a rock album came out, people were like, "Alright, cool!"
But now, when a rock album comes out, people are like, "Oh, thank the almighty Lord! Praise him for this wonderful gem!"
But in all honesty, music these days are all about money, Twitter-followers, girls, what's played on radio, and shit like that. I miss the days when music was based on art and expression.
