That's the thing: "Smallville" hasn't had high ratings since the 2nd & 3rd seasons. After that, it's jumped the shark multiple times. For example--the entire plot of season 4 (Kryptonian crystal fragments, witches, Kal-El as an alternate personality from Clark).

The thing that annoys me the most about this Metallo (besides his hideously campy acting) is that he's not really a 'Metallo' per se. His body isn't replaced with a metallic cyborg shell like the comics, the cartoon and Lois & Clark. In Superboy, he just has a robotic heart powered by Kryptonite and some metallic armour. Bit stupid, really.

For pure turn-your-brain-off stand alone fun, this is the best Superman show ever. It's not as cheesy and old as Adventures of Superman, it's not as character driven as Lois & Clark (even though that's my fave Superman show ever) and it's not bogged down by story arcs and bad character development like Smallville. It's the Ronseal Superman show: it does exactly what it says on the tin. It's not Shakespeare, but it's great to unwind to after a long day.
