  • It's a pity such an amazing horse, or any horse really, could be cruelly killed the way he was. And that's how humans treat a champion. Forget all his accomplishments and treat him like a lifeless object. His owners deserved a much longer prison sentence.

  • You just can't remember Affirmed without remembering Alydar. I think they pushed eachother to excel just as a good friend can push you to be a better person. May they forever run stride for stride in the kingdom of heaven.

  • My horse is his grand daughter, and at 20yrs old this year she gave birth to a stunning 1/2 Connemara great grandson.

  • My horse is his great grand son

  • They look like gemini twins running @ 0:37, they make one another look better.

  • Carly=love this video=beautiful music & beautiful Alydar. So sad to find out about his tragic demise! Alydar was named for Prince Aly Kahn (once married to Rita Hayworth). Named by his society matron owner who greeted Aly Kahn with:Aly, Darling!" Was this owner the husband of the man who killed Alydar? Alydar loved her so much he bowed when he saw her. She said the only race she cried after was the Belmont when Alydar lost by 1/4 of a head! Vicki

  • This is my horses Grandad

  • Stumbled into horse racing in '78 while channel surfin, what a story teller Jim McKay was. Fell in love with Alydar. May they both RIP.

  • May Calumet , and everyone ever associated with it, ROT IN HELL. Your day will come scum !!!!!

  • Wonderful tribute. It's good to know he'll still be lovingly remembered while the money-obsessed parasites whoabused him in that way will go down in history as scum.

Rest in peace oul boy, you deserved far, far better.

  • When i think about what they did to this beautiful animal it tears my heart out. Rest easy big boy.

  • @michaelzstuff PLEASE!!!! Don't sell yourself out! Haven't you researched "The Killing of Alydar"? I can't believe you would do this for money! You are just as guilty, greedy, and insensitive as Lundy. This sickens me: I hope, for both our sakes, I never meet you in person.

  • You should see the movie, "Wild Ride" which is the the story of the death of Alydar and the wealthy owners that went down after his death. Check out Wild Ride on IMDb.com

  • when does it come out? Where can you see or order it??

  • @andromeda1130 The movie is not completed yet. We're still working on i and should have it finished by the beginning of next year. For more info, please go to IMDB and type in Michael Z. Gordon

  • @dirtylittletrickfilm where can you see or order this??

  • very enjoyable thank you-

  • Lundy killed Alydar!! I hope Lundy rots in pieces! If I find him ...nevermind. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!

  • Alydar was murdered for 36 million in insurance money. Drs. confirmed that the break to his leg was caused by a rope tied to it and a pick up truck.

  • The joke around Calument before Lundy killed Alydar was that he was SORE from all the tail he was banging- in Lexington they called Alydar- 'Lundy's ATM' since even the vets told him that Alydar was sore from the constant breeding. As was already detailed in Federal Court, Lundy killed Alydar one month before Golden Eagle was going to cancel the policy due to non-payment, which was on top of First City foreclosing on Calumet. That toilet flushing sound you hear is the Lundy family.

  • The way he died was super sad.. There will never be one like him. May he rest in Peace. (Lundy, however, Sucks A LOT of Crap.)

  • @Belmontsstakes US Attny Tomala in Federal Court- (Houston) already detailed how Lundy killed Alydar. It isn't Lundy's fault- really! His mother was a dog, his life was a lie, his son was a walking corrupt disease that stole from everybody he ever knew- that is the Lundy family tradition.

  • @HollywoodParkSteward I can agree about his family, and he doesn't have to continue it. That horse, was tied to a wall and a truck, the truck pulled out quick and what do you get? A champion race horse, bascially tortured, broken legged, all because he was too stupid to realize that when you borrow money, you have to pay it back in some way. He should have realized this from the start. he is a prime example of the slime of humanity.

  • Thank you carlykaiser for this video. I have loved Alydar since I was a child, and watched him in all 3 races of the triple crown. If you look-up warrior in the dictionary you'll see Alydar's face there. Love Secretariat, and Man of War, but give me Alydar any day. He was a fighter til the end!!!

  • I have an alydar baby in my barn :) Hes the best horse i've ever owned.

  • We love you 4ever, Alydar!!! LUNDY YOU SUCK

  • Breaks my hear to see this video. My all time favorite racehorse. No matter what, I always think he is the best both as a racehorse as a sire. Strike the Gold is my favorite Alydar baby. No matter what, I will always hold J.T. Lundy responsible for his death.

  • hes my horses great grandfather :)

  • No ALYDAR, no Columet, no price was worth more than him,....... producing big game winners...

  • I volunteer for the woman who owns one of his grandchildren! He's a beatiful gelding and a real sweety. Alydar was an amazing horse

  • Alydar, we will always remember eachother! You are always all ways in my heart!!!!

Thank you very much for posting!

    Dana

  • also did u know that u uploaded this video on the day he died:O november 15 1990 thogh!!!:P he was foaled march 21 1975.i like the comment beofore i watch the vid so if this is already in here plzz exuse me!!!:P

  • omg yess alydar hes an amazing race horse.its soo sad though all these amazing horse have died.most shocking 4 ruffians death:(

  • I just learned that I have Alydars great grand daughter in my pasture. OMG....what does one do with that kind of info.

  • three horses at my barn are related to northern dancer and one of them is my friends gelding

  • beautiful video and beautiful song, thank you for uploading it. I`ve heard the story recently on a tv program here in spain and it`s terrible that things like that could happen.

  • Easy Goer must have had the same bad luck that his dad had. I could see why so many people were bewildered that Affirmed was able to get the best of him so many times.

On three separate occasions in his career, Alydar had won consecutive races impressively only to lose to Affirmed when he surely looked like the better horse.

If you look at his Derby preps, his Derby loss is kind of a shock, as his performance in the Travers. I know he ran well, but the way he was running, he should

  • have dominated Affirmed. It's as if Affirmed had him mentally beat. I know it sounds ridiculous, but damn Alydar was awesome. If Affirmed wasn't in the race, Alydar was winning by an average margin of 6 or 7 lengths. That goes to show you how great Affirmed was.

  • How did Alydar die?????

  • Insurance scam. They broke his leg to get money because were in terrible shape financially. Lundy was investigated, 36.5 million was the insurance amount. So so sad

  • That's horrible!

  • Just thinking about the murder of Alydar makes me feel like there is ants under my skin. I have Ruffians beautiful face tattooed on my back and soon I will have the glorious name of the great Alydar on my wrist. Peace to you Alydar.....

  • We will miss you and now your champion son Alysheba who was euthanizd at Hagyard Equine Medcal Institute March 25, 2009. He had a degenerative spine condition. I just wish I'd maade it to the Horse Park to see him, he'd been there since October '08.

    RIP Alysheba

  • Alysheba Died!?

  • He Died In March 27th

    =[

  • Oh wow i had no idea =[

  • Somehow I think it's better he didn't win the Belmont. He would have been just another horse that won one of the races but not the whole thing, and a spoiler to top it off. It is something to say he was the only horse that came in a very close second in a year in which there was a TC,

  • i have three horses that r alydar's great grand kids and grand kid check out stan the man as his great grand kid on my channel

  • The Wrights are probably still rolling over in thier graves.

  • Better yet, chop off the owners legs so they can spend their money in a wheelchair for the rest of their lives...:-)

  • If I had the money, I'd hire someone to break Lundy and Gary Mathews legs and then leave them out to die:-) What a wonderful thought:-)

  • Alydar was AMAZING.. honest and a loyal racehorse.. The greatest...

Can't believe he got killed !!

He was big..incredible and will always be remembered!

  • I am kind of confussd about what you guys are complaining about, and what the big deal is about Australia tracks..Alyday did not break down! He went to stud and then was killed for insurance policy.. He was a beautiful boy who ran an extrelmy impressive carrer. It is depressing how some people trat animals.

Love the video!! very well done!!

  • poor Alydar, such a sad thing that happened

  • wow amazing vidoe alydar was a great horse!

  • Why I always cry when I see something like that?...maybe because dreams era real when such wonderful creature born in this world...:)

  • i have wheatons aly...he is alydars son

  • I love you, Alydar.

  • He was amazing..!

  • he was wonderfull

  • Alydar and Sham... :(

  • he is stunning yea

  • One word for this noble horse... magnificent! He may not have won a triple crown race but hr kicked Affirmed to the curb in the breeding shed. He most certainly did not deserve to die in that manner and with all that suspicion surrounding his death. RIP Alydar

  • Thank you for this magnificent video. Alydar is and always will be my favorite! And thank you to ladybelle24 for reminding us that Alydar did win 3 races (vs Affirmed) including their final meeting at the Travers Stakes. Well done on all fronts people!!!

  • that horse was soo strong and amazing

  • In 2000, equine specialists studying the two necropsies concluded that Phar Lap probably died of duodenitis-proximal jejunitis. In 1980s that the infection could be formally identified.Sydney vet Dr Percy Sykes believes poisoning did not cause the death. He said "In those days, arsenic was quite a common tonic usually given in the form of a solution and suggests this was the cause of the high levels. "It was so common that I'd reckon 90 per cent of the horses had arsenic in their system.

  • Thank you Alydar for being a part of the best rivalry in sports history. Alydar DID beat Affirmed 3 times at of ten races.

    RIP Alydar

  • IF you want to read something to make your skin crawl, go to the Internet and search "the Killing of Alydar". Gives you the June 2001 issue of Texas Monthly. Draw your own conclusions about Lundy's guilt or innocence..........

  • I always wonder what really happened...sure, nearly everybody says he kicked his stall door. It is believeable, sure, but I feel my hair stand on end thinking about the slim chance that there was something more to it. :( But seriously...WHAT A HORSE. He's amazing.

  • Everybody? I've never heard one person actually believe that.

  • What I meant was, everybody /says/ that. I know none of my friends acutally believe it, though.

  • Well, you've now heard of one person who knows that Aldyar died in a freak accident. We did the research to determine the actual facts because we're doing a movie about the Calumet debacle and it was confirmed by several expert witnesses at the trial that the damage to Alydar's leg was consistent with the damage caused to the door. The hinge was over 100 years old and when he kicked the door, the hinge came apart and the door fell directly on Alyar's leg. Sad, but true.

  • Sorry, but I cannot believe that anyone would have a 100 year old hinge on a stall door for a very expensive animal.

  • The you should have gone to Calumet and seen the farm fro yourself. It was a great place but a very old farm which was handed down from generation to generation.

And during the trial, the experts showed tbat although the hinges were older, they were of top quality for those days and were not defective in any way. However, you put enough stress on them, they'll break. And that's true for any material.

  • 100 year old hinges were the top quality? yeah right.

  • What are you, about 12 years old? You might ask an adult or your teacher about the quality of the things we make today of plastic and laminated wood compared with the things that were made by skilled craftsman our of wood and metal decades ago. I collect metal soldiers from WWI. They're 80 years old and are in way better shape than the plastic ones I used to play with twenty years ago.

  • I'm 16.

Still, in the 80's a 100 year old hinge was not the best for any horse. Maybe when the hinges were first put in, in the 1800's, they would have worked.

I don't think Calumet was even around for 100 years when Alydar died.

  • Carly, you said that you are 16, well that just proves it even more. A 16 year old has enough sense to see through the B.S. It was not a hinge it was a roller on the door. This Michael guy is full of B.S. there was never any jury, it was a federal case because the bank was in Texas and the farm in KY. The judge made the verdict not a jury! In other words don't bother to go see this guy's movie! Smart think'n kid, keep up the good work!

  • @michaelzstuff Sorry michael. Read the trial transcripts. That horse was cruelly and maliciously crippled with the intent to collect insurance money. Most of the perps did time for it and had should have done more. Belmontstakes post below does a fine job of explaining what they did to that poor horse. Hinges ain't got nuthin to do with it.

  • Jorge Velasquez the Jockey...from Panama (Chepo), know in his town as Rojo...one of the best of all time, for me the best!!!

  • how did alydar die???

  • He kicked at the stall door and broke his leg. There was a trial because they blamed the farm manager but it was determined that it was just an unfortunate accident that led to the death of a great race horse.

  • thats one weird freak accident iv never heard of a horse breaking his leg kicking the stall door ...

  • No one else had heard of that either which was why there was a trial. They thought that maybe the manager did something to the horse so he could collect the insurance. But the buildings were very old and some of the barns were made near the turn of the century. Alydar kicked the stall door so hard that he actually broke an old metal hinge that was attached to the door.

  • oh i see now

  • The US Justice Dept believes that this horse was murdered. An MIT study commissioned by the US Atty's Office found that the injury could NOT have happened as explained by J.T. Lundy. Read "Wild Ride" and also ask yourself why anyone would commit perjury regarding an accident???

  • We are doing a movie about the fall of Calumet and I interviewed J.T. Lundy extensively. Bottom line is, he was tried and found innocent of any wrongdoing. I think the jury saw through the tainted evidence that was presented at the trial. There was a great deal of negative publicity against J.T. and "Wild Ride" was no exception. It was horribly one-sided. It was funded by individuals who needed a scapegoat to to take the rap for the fall of Calumet and J.T. was the perfect candidate.

  • "Bottom line is, he was tried and found innocent of any wrongdoing."

Not exactly, he was never actually tried for it, and he certainly wasn't 'found innocent.' The best which could have been hoped for in a trial would have been "not guilty," but since there was no trial, there wasn't even that. The judge said he thought there was good circumstantial evidence that he was responsible, but nothing else.

  • That's not accurate. "Wild Ride' was financed hy the people who wanted to see J.T. go down as the fall guy. When all the evidence was presented at the trial, he was found innocent of all charges. And the real truth is, why would someone want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg? He was the most valuable thing on the farm and the sales from the shares and season to Alydar amounted to millions of dollars every year.

  • So..just why was it that Lundy and Mathews went to jail?? Oh yes..it was Bribery and Fraud!! A 36 million dollar insurance policy and a Farm in Bankrupcy....HMMMMM??? Kind of makes more sense than 100 year old hinges. What about the groom who also went to jail??

  • You want to know why J.T. went to jail? You take an unscrupulous family attorney whou would tell J.T. the (and the owners) and tell them that he needed their signatures for some fiticious reason. Since he they neeeded a fall gay and J.T. was perfect. He didn't graduate from high school and grew up on a farm raising horses. if you had met him, you would know that this guy couldn't mastermind a road map, let alone an intricate financial scheme to defraud the family out of millions of dollars.

  • If he couldn't mastermind a road map, how was he able to leverage Alydar breeding rights so badly? The bribe was all the lawyers fault? Just how does a sliding door fall onto a horse leg? It was not a hinge that broke it was the latch. Why was the usual stable hand unexpectedly given the night off? Why did they call the insurance agent before the Vet? Why did he wait to call the best vet in the business until after everyone else was already there? If it looks like a duck?

  • Well, you seem to know more than the twelve jurors who heard every single detail of the tragic accident that took Alydar's life. All of them found that J.T. was not responsible. You need to take a course to see what a duck really looks like. It wears a $400 suit, has a law degree and loves to conspire with unscrupulous bank executives to defraud a family out of millions of dollars. Oh, and all those ducks went to jail.

  • That's hilarious! There were never any "12 jurors", it was a Federal Case, and the Judge made the ruling. Giving J.T 4 years and the lawyer 21 months. Please get that right in the movie. You also fail to mention the MIT Professor who said that the horse was killed. That no horse could have kicked the door hard enough (required (6000 ft lbs of presure to break the latch), the best a horse could do was 1200? What about the lying Night watchman who went to jail for it? Get your facts straight!

  • What about JT testifying that Alydar bucked and kicked the walls and door of his stall all the time? But they never bothered to pad the walls, and there were no skuff marks or broken boards in his 100 year old stall? You'll have to excuse me if I believe a MIT Professor over a guy who doesn't even know that a Judge not a jury made the verdict! I guess I do know what a duck looks like!

  • poor horse ... cruel death

  • HOW DID ALYDAR DIE?

  • man its a shame what people would do for money.

  • The Great Alydar...one of horseracing finest athletes. He deserves to be remembered as a horse that gave 110% in what ever he did. His ending was tragic, he deserved better. RIP great champion.

  • i have seen more souvenir items of alydar than affirmed, Alydar, a never crown champion yet hall famer, sad that he died at the peak of his stud career, by far he was the most valuable stallion n kept producing big game performers, at a time of great studs,

  • Alydar may not be a triple crown winner but he sure as hell had the last laugh in the breeding shed over Affirmed.

  • agreed

  • tkoe the horse trained all the way up to the fountian of youth shipped to florida, scratched 2 days out went back to ny and beat affirmed in the champiagn.

  • SAY FLORIDA SANDY was also alot of fun to watch he wasnt a lost in the fog or Kona gold but he was a great NY bred!

  • Im very happy to have found this window and very happy to share special memories with all of you!!! My older brother, Brian koriner is an EXCEPTIONAL horseman as well, and has tought me so much about modern racing and training. If anyone wants to know about a horse he has entered let me know, wene i call he allways answers his cell for me!!! BARBQEDDIE will be the toughest horse to beat @6-7f if he matures, hes more talented then he shows and has the same attitde alysheba and alydar had!

  • Something Jorge Valasquez used to tell Eddy at the bar that alot of people dont know about Alydar is that he seems to whant to make the lead and waite for horses or run to the lead horse and dwelt, Chris Mccaren told everyone Alysheba used to do the same thing!!!

  • Eddy also worked for Billy turner, & Frank Whitley, I have winners photos of DR.CARTER, SEATTLE SLEW, RUFFIAN and may other legends my uncle has worked with, they were all great, they ran wene horses were bred to run. Its a shame that they usually dont hang out anymore after their three yeer-old carear.

  • If he was born another year, he would have surely snatched the Triple Crown, and no hes not a loser

  • Absolutely! Check his speed ratings! If not for Affirmed, this horse would have beat every other horse he raced against in the triple crown that year.

  • yep

  • Loser? I guess that is a way to say it since he "never won anything."

Alydar was a great horse, who came around the same year as a horse just a step better. Have you seen the races when he is on his own? Unstopable. And with Affirmed? Unstopable save 1 horse.

  • alydar was a great horse and you have no right to say he was not hes better than a lot of other horses cuse he bet a lot but affirmed just would let him get past but frankly i prefer alydar so shove it about aldar not being a good horse ok ! ok goood!

  • STFU Alydar was a loser

    Most overrated horse ever

He could have been great but NO Heart

    Pathetic animal

  • My uncle Eddy Osborne was a barn foreman for john vietch and helped take care of him during his campiagn! I HAVE Alydar winners circle pictures of him that are priceless!!! Ieven have one of his halters he wore when he whent into the fountian of youth!!!

  • yeah. He had no heart. Thats why he stayed right there with Affirmed through the entire Belmont. Affirmed was just a better horse.

  • But a very eithrway type attitude, some called him common, or a cheet'n SOB. What did you guys think of PERCISSIONIST? I think he has to be the last Iron horse we have seen in recent years. One of my other favorite horse to watch was Hook n LADDER im glad to see his offspring coming @ aswell!

  • im not positive, but i think as a 3 year old he only lost 3 races, and i bet you can figure out which ones they were. i think he won every other race that year.

  • So much hate, i feel sorry for you: from day one alydar was undertrained, you ask a horseman who saw him and they will tell u that he had alot more than we saw:As good as Affirmed was he can't ran a fast pace, evident from when he challenged S.Slew, the pace killed alydar but he still made a race out of every race...plus he is a champion sire..chef-the-race..find something else to hate, but not alydar.

  • Yeah, glue. He was great horse who won multiple grade 1's and was worth of 200 million dollars in future stud fees. Which is a lot more then you sorry ass. Loser.

  • If this horse had heart it would have won

0-3 is not record of a great horse

the races were great This horse was not

  • Hey Clown,

He won the Great American, Tremont, Sapling, Champagne, Flamingo, Florida Derby, Blue Grass, Arlington Classic, The Nassau County, The Whitney, and the Travers. He's in the hall of fame. He was agreat horse you moron. I guess Spectacular Bid sucked too because he couldn't beat Affirmed?

  • Alydar lost three times SATH

  • Secretariat lost 5 times

  • race the camels LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • dont forget about the fountian of youth debocle! he was a great horse and anyone who says otherwise shouldn't be playing horses.

  • If he had a heart? This horse had one of the biggest hearts you could ever ask from a race horse. He ran 26 time, had 14 Wins, 9 2nds, and one third. He was only out of the money two times in his whole racing career! No matter how good the horse was, Alydar stayed with the best of them right to the finish, giving it all he had.

  • Phar Lap was a great race horse. But you'd better get your facts straight. The Americans didn't kill him, the trainer did, and the trainer was not an American, he was Australian!

  • huh thats funny we have/had them to.

  • Had what??

  • Hey, I take that as an insult. I'm american and am most certainly NOT stupid or jelous!! And there was NO proof we killed Phar Lap. If we did, then I'm sorry. But I don NOT think we did.

  • yes there is at the melbourne museum is pharlaps body they took samples of his man tail and his whole body and noticed that he has been poisend but he wasent like it when he was in australia they found out some one gave him poisen they thought it was revilly boys owners seeing reville boy got beaten in the augua caliente pharlap got poisend 2 weeks later after his win of the auga caliente

  • December 2007 tests done in Chicago proved that Phar Lap died of Arsenic poisoning. It is thought that gangsters poisoned him because of the losses that they feared he would cause to thier illegal book making operations. There is talk that a common tonic used on horses at the time called Fowlers Solution that contained arsenic may have caused his death, but the hair samples tested point to a single large dose 35 hours before he died! So if you include American gangsters in "WE", then we did it

  • You know what? why are you even posting here? Take your hate elsewhere.

  • i think i like and know more about racing than you after all my nan and pop and antie and uncal all have harness racers and even a couple of gallopers so i have goten to meet alot of famous gallopers AND harness racers

oh and i dont want to take my hate some where else buts it funny how as soon as he won the richest race 2 weeks later he was dead and it was in AMERICA

  • How would you even know that?! Harness racing is not the same as flat racing anyways! I could say i know more about racing becuase i live right next to Arlington and go there a lot! And once again...this is a video for ALYDAR..so take your hate to a PHAR LAP VIDEO. Do you understand??? wow....

  • I LIVE NEXT TO MOONEY VALLEY RACE COURSE

AND THAT IS ONLY A COUPLE OF BLOCKS AWAY FROM FLEMINGTON RACECOURSE i go there evreyday when the races are on a help around that track

i even get to watch the famous COXS PLATE AND MELBOURNE CUP

  • wow..youre cool. i can watch the Arlington Million.

  • that is NOT the most richest race is the country is it

the melbourne cup is the richest race in australia the cox plate being the 2nd richest

oh and did i menten i have met blacks a fake who has won the bigest harness race in the world the interdomion 3 times in a row oh and also makybe diva who had won the bigest gallop race in the country

  • do you realise i am not talking about racing in Australia?!?! Im talking Chicago Illinois. And do i care who has raced at Melbourne? NO! Do i care about harness champions? NOO!!Secretariat raced at Arlington! What about John Henry? Cigar? Secretariat could have beat this makybe diva with his eyes closed!

  • HA I BET HE COULDENT MAKYBE DIVA WON THE RICHEST AUSTRALIAN RACE 3 TIMES ITS 2 LAPS AROUND THE TRACK AND IT IS RUN ON THE BEUTIFULEST TRACK IN THE WORLD AND THATS TRUE IT WAS NAMED THAT TOO secretairait would of just broken down like all the other american horses and makybe diva could of bet makybe diva on 3 legs makybe diva is wayy better than secretairat you know makybe diva hold the record of the longest winning lenngh

  • Secretariat has the record at Churchill Downs, and won the Belmont by 31 lengths. And also set records at Pimlico taking the Triple Crown, which is the most prestigious set of races in the world.

  • oh and why woulfd i take it to a pharlap video is i LOVED pharlap

i must know more otherwises your facts would be much starighter

  • Well, i have my reading straight. it says ALYDAR. NOT Pharlap. nobody cares for your stupid hater opinions on America here. AND beacuse if you love pharlap, you would go to another video and nag other fans. Thats why.

  • Sure ya do oh and i have alreay been too the pharlap videos and i am now watching some americans races to see what horses have fell or injured themselves in that cruel country

  • ok like horses in Australia dont fall either. you're the one claiming you know everything about racing. you would know that accidents happen and that the thoroughbred breed is born to run. flat racing is no different in Australia.

  • yes it is diffrent

for 1 we have turf tracks which is much nicer to horses and it looks Wayy more nicer

and 2 we dont hit the horse with the whip all the way down the staright like americans do!!

and yes i know they love to run and yes aussie horses do fall but not often and even when they do fall they dont get hurt because they fall on TURF!!

  • We have turf too, believe it or not. Thats really surprising how such person with sooo much horse racing knowledge would not know American tracks do not have turf tracks. Horses can still get hurt severly on turf. horses in USA and Australia are no different so i dont know what you're thinking.

  • yeah you might name a track that has turf

we dont have any dirt tracks and turf is much softer to fall on if dirt tracks are not bad how come so many horses have broken down on american dirt tracks name some australian horses that have broken down here on our tracks

  • Well we have synthetic which is hardly dirt. Look it up. Its softer than grass. And to answer your question...i wouldnt know any australian horses. I'm American and follw American racing. Horses still get hurt on grass, just to let you know.

  • Another beautiful video Carly! It gives me goose bumps to see the magnificant Alydar beng lead out in the opening of this video. It must have been so exciting to see Affirmed and Alydar race back in the 70's. I wish Alydar was born later in time and we could watch him win the triple crown today!

  • great video..I have no "what if's" for you, it was what it was. They were both super talented just one more determined than the other. Love your videos.

  • If Barrera had trained Alydar and Cauthen had ridden him, Alydar would have won the Triple Crown. He had a very good trainer and a very good jockey...Affirmed had one of the GREAT trainers ever, and perhaps the greatest jockey. Cauthen took Velazquez to school in the '78 Triple Crown, especially in the Belmont where he was allowed an opening half in :50:- uncontested lead...the Belmont was over with a mile left; incredible Alydar was able to make a race of it, after that opening half.

  • Sad it's all about the money sometimes. Same with Shergar

  • Thank you very much for this video!

I am so sorry - his destiny was a drama! So sorry for the way he died!

Through Alydar I found a lot in life...

    Thank you Alydar! RIP!

  • the video was beautiful, i just purchased 2 of alydar's grand kids, one female and one stallion.i hope they are half as good as he was, they are only 15 months and 11 months

  • I love Alydar. Good luch with him! They got strong blood in their veins.

  • nice video, thanks. and he was totally murdered.

  • Dear sweet Alydar... He was always one of my favorites because he was the underdog....truly a champion...and what was done to him makes it that much more bittersweet...Carly hon, beautiful job...

  • Thank you so much!

  • That's my horse's grandsire =P And in response to SALTYalydaR: Yes Alydar did break his leg, but it was not an accident that he did so. The management of Calumet Farms was entirely behind the incident. They just wanted the insurance money that would come from his death.
