Let's be honest...Stone Cold was a great gimick, which he actually stole from the Sandman in ECW...do your research people! With all that said he had one of the greatest gimmicks ever, but HBK had the total package inside and outside of the ring.

Austin made 3X the impact in a much shorter time period. Yea Shawn was better in the ring but Austin was better in just about every other category (marketability, mic skills, fan acceptance, impact, merchandise sales etc...). Shawn while on top (95-97) didn't make the company anything, Austin took WWF to unrivaled heights.

@Kingjd87 Me personally I think that Stone Cold was more popular in his time but if HBK had not been on top in th3e 95-97 time there wouldn't have been an attitude era. But I think that would would HBK vs Austin instead of Rock vs Austin. HBK held the company up during a difficult (nWo) time.

You need to go back and have a wresting history recap bro. The WWF was drastically shrinking and losing fans to WCW while Shawn was on top. He didn't "hold the company up during the difficult NWO time." If anything he drove away hardcore fans who did not like the whole "sexy boy" gimmick. Austin brought every single one of those fans back.

@Kingjd87 But in 97 the nwo was getting old and that was the time DX started to win the audiences. they were selling out house shows while wcw was giving away free tickets. so they havent hit the polls yet so they were heading back to the top 97-98 right before HBK went out completely. it was the night that austin vs mcmahon for the title that it actually hit tv ratings. i got that off the hbk and raw 15th dvd. you can also here about the free tickets in DX invades WCW segment on RAW
